Doug Martin had to enjoy what he heard from Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht yesterday.
Koetter did one of those fancy video pregame chats with Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com and mentioned the Falcons’ game plan was to stop Doug Martin in Week 1. That’s what the film showed, Koetter said.
Combine that with Koetter and general manager Jason Licht both saying they expect a different approach with all kinds of blitzes and heat on America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, from the Cardinals’ defense. So Martin should be primed to plenty of opportunities on Sunday.
Martin had 18 carries for 62 yards in Atlanta, where he shook off some rust, caught five balls and ran very strong.
If the Cardinals are going to dial up all kinds of pressure, then Koetter knows how to counter that with his versatile running backs and effective offensive line.
Including January football last year, the Cardinals’ run defense has absorbed a pounding in its last four games.

Last year Doug Martin opened up things for Jameis, this year teams have to watch out for Jameis and it will open up things for Doug Martin

I think Martin will be in the same 100ish combined yards range again this week. 60-75 yards rushing on about 15 attempts and 25-40 yards receiving.
I’m anticipating a pass heavy strategy by the Bucs this week. Dirk will of course mix in enough runs to help keep them honest and/or off balance – but unless Martin is busting breakaways in the 1st half – Koetter is going to largely rely on Jameis to move the ball and get us the points we are going to need to win this game. We probably need 30-35 points to win on Sunday- and even that might not be enough. 2 very good offenses are meeting in the desert on Sunday – a shootout is more likely than not IMO.

Apparently teams and players are starting to notice it take 2+ to sac Jameism.im starting to think that Jameis doesnt recognize “pressure unless he has 2 guys trying to bring him down.my prediction is charles sims will be Tampas secret weapon tomorrow and will have a career day.especially if Zona tries to blitz back to back.if Zona sees it cant get to winston in 2-3Qtrs they will eventually just challenge Jameis to beat them with his hand.which he’ll gladly do!GO BUCS!!!

No WAY the Cards score more than 28. I’m thinking 23 at best cause I think we will Rock old man Palmer! Here is to hoping we put up more points!!!!

Agree, I don’t thing we need to score 30-35 as I think our ability to control the clock better than the patriots did last week will be the key, keeping their offense off the field.

I see him doing a “whale-dive” on Carson Palmer and knocking him out of the game.
