Report: Bucs Sign Jacquizz Rodgers

September 13th, 2016
New Bucs RB.

New Bucs RB.

An old friend of Dirk Koetter’s and another weapon for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, appears to be in the fold for the Bucs.

Per Jenna Laine of BSPN, the Bucs have signed former Dixie Chicks running back Jacquizz Rodgers to a one-year deal.

Rodgers is a versatile back known more for catching out of the backfield and returning kicks. In three years under Koetter in Atlanta (2012-2014), he caught 134 balls and four touchdowns. Rodgers came to play during the Falcons’ deep playoff run in the 2012 season with 20 carries for 96 yards in two playoff games. Last year, however, he pretty much stunk with the Bears putting up very pedestrian numbers.

Perhaps being reunited with his former offensive coordinator in Koetter may rejuvenate his career?

    Rather have Mike James back.

  2. LakeLandBuc Says:

He is a versatile back, and a solid return man. But his main asset is his blocking ability, he’s one of the best blocking backs in the NFL. ( if not the best).

lose a jacquies, add a jacquizz. balance restored

    LOL ^

  5. Brian4bucs Says:

Thought this would happen. Adds good depth. I wasn’t impressed with Barber or Hansborough.

  6. Waterboy Says:

Another RB that can catch and make guys miss in space. Good pickup!

  7. DallasBuc Says:

He had a lot of success gashing Bucs teams of the past. Nice low cost, low risk pickup.

  8. rrsrq Says:

if not returning kicks/punts, when will he get touches. This will just allow for Peyton Barber to be inactive on Sundays. Go Bucs, beat the Cards. I’m optimistic, we got Jameis. People are saying not good for the Bucs that the Cards lost, I say not good for the Cards that the Bucs are being disrespected

  9. nate_tweetz Says:

I can imagine a 2 split back set with Sims on one side and Jaquizz on the other. Screen pass game would be strong!

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

To heck with the Cards!!! We’re grown! We have as much chance as they do.

I thought they might sign him. Agreed, low-cost and low-risk.

  11. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Exactly rsq said. I’m glad they lost they’re opener. Now no-one here can use the excuse they didn’t take us serious when we arrive and drag they @$$.

  12. John Says:

    @ pick 6 that’s was good lol

” People are saying not good for the Bucs that the Cards lost,”

Yeah I don’t buy that really. If anything Arizona proved beatable. I’d rather go up there with them 0-1 and questioning themselves / angry & desperate; than them be 1-0 and confident and firing on all cylinders already

  14. Supersam Says:

Called it back in August. Damn I’m good. Good signing. It’s a long season we need depth

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo loves Hacquies & Haquizz……..Pablo is tempted to call one Hack….but Pablo will call one little Hack and big Hack. Pablo is very smart and loves everyone at JBF especially Lifeofabucfan who may be the mother of one of Pablo’s many many children” (Pablo is joking, of course)

  16. Owlykat Says:

Good move. We need Jaquiz returning kicks, so we don’t lose Hump’s services in the slot should he get hit hard on a Runback, and backing up Sims and maybe playing on some third downs blocking against a heavy blitzing team. But we need Barber for third and one or punching the ball in the end zone.

  17. Trubucfan22 Says:

I have no idea where he fits in this offense, but he is a talented little dude. Adding veteran experienced players to the roster is always a good thing.

  18. GhostofTedford Says:

He is also the only known man alive to play a game of Poker with Jack Del Rio, call his bluff and live to tell about it.

  19. Trubucfan22 Says:

Barber is best to never see the field, i do not trust some “nobody” with the rock. In a crucial third down or goalline situation i want Martin to be the guy. He has great vision, elusiveness, and power.

  20. teacherman777 Says:

Remember when this lil dude TRUCKED Mason Foster?

This guy reminds me A LOT of Doug Martin.

    Short, stout, strong, serious.

    GREAT SIGNING.

    Go Bucs!!

  21. Kobe Faker Says:

This shows that Koetter has eyes

Did everyone see when Freeman was at the backfield and they threw to telvin coleman at the LOS

5 catches 95 yards. Not once or could we stop that play . thank god for Shanahan he didnt call it more

linebackers keying on freeman and coleman running 10 yards past them. AARP smith doing his headless chicken dance

Its all about mismatches…Get chuck and doug on the field at the same time

  22. The bucfan 88 Says:

Yea we some dogs not sum puppies

  23. Cobraboy Says:

Nor surprised at all. He’s a vested veteran and now the team does not guarantee his entire salary if it doesn’t work out.

  24. Kevin Says:

I dont hate this signing. The only thing that kept the old falcons from winning a superbowl was theyre horrible defense. That is the reason I was and am still a bit skeptical of Mike Smith. I thought our coverage was still a little soft week 1 and theyre gonna need to turn it up if they want a win in arizona after they lost to open the season. Like the additions on offense, defense still has me worried

  25. dave Says:

love this signing. maybe have him return punts?

  26. mike10 Says:

    agree with Another
