Koetter: “It’s Caught On”
September 13th, 2016What was missing from last year’s Buccaneers gets clearer by the day, especially for Dirk Koetter.
Speaking last night on his radio show, Koetter strongly suggested defensive end Robert Ayers is the early MVP of the Buccaneers.
After praising Ayers’ disruptiveness and sack against the Falcons, Koetter talked about the bigger picture.
“What Robert has brought to our team, he has brought a little element of nastiness that maybe we were lacking before, and it’s caught on,” Koetter told the Buccaneers Radio Network on WDAE-AM 620. “He bought in to everything we’re doing. As he said, he’s kind of a mean, angry guy by his disposition. But our team needed a guy like that. He’s made our team better just by the way he carries himself.”
This concept of the Ayers-type nasty being “needed” has been spoken about previously. But Joe doesn’t recall such a firm statement like this from the head coach. It’s still baffling that the Bucs, apparently, didn’t have a nasty presence previously.
It’s interesting to hear Koetter say the Ayers way has caught on. Remember, Ayers is “a naturally pissed off person.“
When the Bucs eventually lose this season, Joe expects a very different kind of response throughout the team.

I questioned Licht’s decision to pass on Mario Willams at 8 mil a year to bring in Ayers and obviously Licht knew exactly what he was doing. We need more of that nastiness! Hopefully Sweezy will bring that same mentality to the O-line at some point.

Much needed vet presence. Will be great for Spence to learn from. Did we replace J smith yet?
September 13th, 2016 at 8:45 am
This Rough Ridah is exactly what the Doctor ordered.

OMG Waterboy when Sweezy makes his return( whenever that may be, take ya time Sweeze) trust me it will be immediately noticeable. He personifies nasty.

Ayers also brings the ability to stop the run and flexibility to play inside and should be the prototypical DE for the Bucs that we need to develop instead of just depending on speed rushers such as Spence and Jaques Smith for sacs. Ayers is also a great mentor for our starting LDE who has the same abilities as Ayers does. We also need to draft another DE in the second round next year with the same capabilities as Ayers who can be mentored by him and will replace him when Ayers retires. With our first pick we need another top receiver who can replace VJAX when he retires. With our third pick we need another promising SLB, and take best OL and DL players after that to develop.

Finally the defense has a true leader.

Soeaking of ayers I wanna talk about this buc defense last Sunday now I know that everyone gonna say that the defense didn’t look to well but I look at the tape and this Defense is not getting the praise it should be why well who were the two ppl on atl that are game changers jones and freeman that combine for 86 yards and a TD now I know that all of u are going to say but senu and Colman was killing us well look at the tape those two combined for only one explosive play each this defense took there strength and in all honest on paper this game could have be a blow out vicory for us but I just wanna say I’m impressed with the defense

Sorry spell check on my phone I meant speaking
September 13th, 2016 at 8:54 am
Why do you think the Bucs were so good with Sapp? He made no excuses for how he was and a brought that nastiness that made that defense great
September 13th, 2016 at 8:54 am
The play where LVD tackled Atlanta’s RB and used his face to to push himself up with was a great example of that nastiness.
September 13th, 2016 at 9:01 am
Just gotta love Coach K. He buys into the fundamental…it is what it is…and he’s not afraid to talk about whatever “it” is…even if it means suggesting last year’s defense was soft.
Even GMC seems to have developed and edge both on and off the field as Joe can attest.

Now its time for me to sit back and listen to “Famous” on Mike & Mike this morning.
September 13th, 2016 at 9:03 am
After last year’s first game against the Titans LVD mental toughness was in question. LVD deflated after the first defensive play of the game! Hopefully Ayers attitude is embraced by LVD.
Thank God for Licht!

We have some nastness on the team with Mike Evans & Kwon……..we used to have some players with some nastiness like Blount & Talib but that nastiness came with some baggage.
I think the key is nasty on field and nice off field.
As for our defense playing well…..it did. We stopped them many times in the red zone and except for a couple of busted coverage plays, we were stout.

Congrats to Couchfan who leads the JOEBUCSFAN.com Pick Em with a 13 and 3 opening weekend. Good Show!

Very glad to admit it appears I was wrong about Ayers not being a good signing. Keep proving my wrong and helping the team win every game, I have no issue with eating crow about a player if it means the team is winning.

David….
Wasnt just about the nastiness with sapp. He was the best DT in the league for many years back then. Thats who I paid to go see, sapp n lych take some heads off

Pablooooo!!! Where are youuuuu??? Please entertain us with your wit and wisdom.
September 13th, 2016 at 9:32 am
McCoy definitely played with a more aggressive style and all the way to the end.
I believe the two tipped passes at the end of the game were the nails in the coffin for beating Atlanta.
Defense played well. One big play on the miscue for Hargraves but that’s a rookie mistake.
CB’s have to communcate
September 13th, 2016 at 9:34 am
A sad day on JBF. Pablo is no longer with us… run over by a bus while attempting to cross the border illegally. There must be someone out there capable of filling his big shoes (very big, very big) in providing us with his uncanny football wisdom and wit.
RIP Pablo.

my favorite defensive stat from the game on Sunday
Falcons Red Zone Efficiency 1/4 – 25%
Falcons Goal To Go Efficiency 1/2 – 50%
September 13th, 2016 at 10:41 am
it’s only one game but the last two years red zone efficiency average is 64.29% not quit as high as the completion percentage but close.
September 13th, 2016 at 11:23 am
I hope the league starts to recognize that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers arent taking jack squat from anyone anymore!i have never heard of an NFL team have rhe type of leaders we have in Ayers,McCoy,Alexander,David and of course yours truly FAMOUS JAMEIS!we use to be trampled on,bullied, with little to no media coverage.well guess what, Tampa is the aggressor now and we’re here to stay!Arizona is the favorite next week but thats because everyone is going by the Bucs of the past years.its a new era in One Buc Palace.
#SIEGE THE LEAGUE! #DUNKANEERS #WE SKRONG!
