Dirk Koetter: Jameis = Tom Landry

The legend of America’s Quarterback grows.
How fitting it is that Jameis Winston was likened today to legendary head coach Tom Landry, the former chief of America’s Team. And it was Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter himself making the analogy.
On the Buccaneers Radio Network this evening, Koetter was asked by a fan whether he thought Jameis would — or could — be a good head coach one day.
First, Koetter joked that Jameis will earn so much money as a player he won’t need to coach, but then Koetter answered the question.
Yes, yes, yes, Koetter said, Jameis would be a great head coach. Koetter said he can see it in Jameis already and he said Jameis would be in the Vince Lombardi, Weeb Ewbank, Don Shula and Tom Landry mode.
Koetter said he could easily envision Jameis working in and old school fashion and even dressing like Landry (see above), including his trademark fedora.
It’s a fun thought, but 22-year-old Jameis is, hopefully, at least 15 years from a potential coaching career.
Regarding Jameis and coaching, Joe will say confidently that Jameis likely will be choosing who coaches him for many Bucs seasons to come.

Jameis is a very intelligent, driven young man who can and will accomplish anything he works towards. Jameis is a great roll mode for the hand out – entitlement generation.

Man, I was really high on the BUCS after yesterday’s win. Looking back at it, if Atlanta doesn’t commit two stupid third down penalties we very well could have lost that game. I hope we clean it up a little in all three phases for Subday’s game in Arizona.

And Atlanta was two blown coverages by a rookie CB away from being blown out at home. The line is very slim in the NFL between a 6-10 team and a 10-6 team.
Those penalties that Atlanta committed are the same crap that made us a 6-10 and 4-12 team for the last how many years.

your boy 8 has not played in the regular season in nearly 2 years now. he does not matter. My only concern with Glennon is he masters the touch screen on the Surface so he can efficiently support the franchise Jameis Winston. I have not mentioned Glennon during the regular season simply because he is irrelevant. 8’s only concern should be learning gestures, short cuts and other tools to assist in his Surface skills. I don’t want to see 3 waiting around for video, screen grabs and stills…. it’s big ball football now Glennon’s job is the Surface….

Love Coach K but Tom Landry? No freaking way! Tom was successful but an incredibly boring uptight arsehole.
No Fameis is more like Al Davis. Most people forget he was a successful coach before he became an Owner/GM. Like him or loathe him he was very successful and he loved life! He would celebrate the Super Bowls with a real joie d vivre.
In fact Davis was fine during the season and he had the same attitude as #3…you can have fun…laugh it up…BUT…”Just win baby”. It’s all about the results.
Bottom line for me though is #3 is an original and he would be most like Jameis Winston.

I think the Winston hype is overblown at this point. He’s turning outt to be good so far, but he isn’t even elite yet.
Stpetebucsfan is right. Jameis Winston is Jameis Winston. We’re still learninh who that is, but we already know he isn’t like anyone else.
We need to just enjoy seeing his development.

St pete I often agree with your posts but this time you are grossly uninformed and way off base.
Tom Landry had a calm cool persona during games but he was the opposite of the things you claim.
He led an incredibly dynamic life which included dozens of successful fighter pilot missions in WWII. He had a very expressive personality away from game day – opposite of boring!! He was consistently positive and encouraging and had a huge sense of humor – opposite of uptight!! Arsehole? Where did that come from? He was one of the the most respected figures in the league for 2 decades. Ahole? Not hardly!!!!!
BTW – I hate the cowboys but I did meet Tom Landry while attending TCU
