Moore: Seferian-Jenkins Has Body Language Issue

A 16-year NFL veteran weighs in
It seems Austin Seferian-Jenkins still has work to do in the image department.
That’s the take from Dave Moore, the former Bucs tight end who now plays game analyst on the Buccaneers Radio Network. The respected voice played 16 NFL seasons.
Moore checked in for his usual segment on WDAE-AM 620 this morning and praised ASJ but believes he would benefit from carrying himself differently.
“The biggest thing I think people have an issue with is his body language,” Moore said of ASJ.
“You can see that whether it’s intentional or not, he just has the body language that doesn’t look like he’s giving all of his effort all the time.
“There’s guys that I played with along the way that are really working hard and get that perceptions, and then there’s guys on the other side of that who really aren’t the worker-type guys. So hopefully whatever perception/reality that’s going on, he continues to play and he stays healthy, is really the biggest thing. Because he’s a guy … making an athletic catch like that. There’s not too many guys of that size having that ability [in the NFL].”
Joe gets what Moore is saying, but Joe really couldn’t care less about body language unless it’s complemented by something else negative.

If ASJ stays healthy, stops getting booted from practice or screamed at by his quarterback, and produces at 80 percent of his ability level, then fans will embrace him and he’ll have a long NFL career.
ASJ turns 24 this month. This is his time to blossom.

Keep balling ASJ! I can’t wait to wear my ASJ jersey at the home opener. He is the difference maker over the middle that’s going to give our WRs single coverages on the outside.

He is a strider so it looks like he isn’t running all out and the cuts look lazy because of that.

I read somewhere that it’s not Jenkins we should be concerned about, it’s Vincent Jacksons body language that’s alarming. Saying he looks “bored” “disinterested” and “distracted” and you know what, I’m starting to notice it too.

Agreed with the article and could care less about body language. What I do care about is that he makes plays when he gets the chance. There’s not too many tight ends that make that touchdown then he made yesterday. Asj help us win that game we look forward to more of the same.

I like Dave Moore…..but ASJ has far more (no pun) of an upside than Moore. Perhaps Dave is a bit jealous. Anyway, I like the body language he displayed on that catch.

We just dominated a division opponent and were the only team Insider division 2 win yesterday. I don’t think there’s much of a chance that we are in the market to trade away our backup quarterback. Not to mention and correct me if I’m wrong but they have Josh McCown in Cleveland. They are not going to be trading for Glennon which would give them the same pitiful combination of quarterbacks that we had here in Tampa but could not move the ball in 2014.

When I worked over at Chase, I had a manager who wrote me up for “bad body language.” Seriously. It went in my HR file. He was padding the file trying to justify firing me later, but I thought that was hilarious. He said my walking slowly in the hall with my head down was damaging morale.

I’m getting pretty optimistic. Did you all see the ASJ praise Coach K…he was gushing about father figures and what a great job Coach K has done with him.
We may be finally turning the corner as an organization. The Patriots would find a way to get ASJ to toe the line and perform…just as they’ve done with bigger head cases like Blount.
I think between Coach K and of course #3 and the rest of this locker room…ASJ will be helped dramatically.
This is a win win. We can use ASJ and he can use the maturity Coach K and #3 are giving him.

ASJ’s body language is set, that’s just his style. The Bucs need production from ASJ every game to be the winners many expect.

when my wife gets mad at me I asked her what I did wrong and she always says that it is just my body language And my demeanor. how about we just judge asj on how hard he plays and how well he plays and stop acting like a bunch of nagging wives about him.

I am victim of body language misunderstanding myself… This is the thing… You can say you dont care and it a lot to do about nothing all you want but your still wrong…
The only reason ALL OF YOU have been doubting him is because of his body language… In fact two of his most boneheaded displays are all anyone ever points to when it comes to the type of BAD player he is…
Simply put… I agree it should not be an issue but it can become a major issue… As the guy above posted… His body language got him fired for bring down moral in the office… My advice would be to take other advice when they are being nice…
What other see is often a reflection of themselves… If you give them a gesture or two because your mad or sad or whatever… They will take that to mean whatever they personally feel with those emotions…
Best way to change this perception… Keep being you and mix in a smile as you continue to do your thing… Eventually people get hse to you just naturally looking pissed off (in my case or R Ayers)

Body language is critical. One Presidential candidate was so talented at it that he ascertained that security professionals…with their body language…said they disapproved of policy. You just have to have enough talent eh.

I don’t care about his body language or attitude so long as he produces. It’s always funny to hear people talk about how they want a team full of good guys, but no one cares about good guys, they care about winning, period. If you want a team full of boy scouts you can easily do so, and you’ll got 3-13 every year and have 25,000 people at the games. Put a team of Warren Sapps out there and you’ll be in the SB and have a 10-year waiting list to buy season tickets.

Warren Sapp was not great because he was an arsehole. He was great because he was a motivated physical freak…a fat guy who could explode off the ball and had a ton of strength.
For the 1000X Being a jerk does not have a thing to do with being a great football player. There are hundreds and hundreds of examples of HOFers who were also class acts.
