A changing of the guard in the NFC South?
Former Bucs, Titans and Broncos QB Chris Simms thinks that has happened already at quarterback.
Simms, who previously detailed how he and his famous father Phil are smitten by Jameis Winston’s game film, moved further all in on Jameis late yesterday.
Via the Bleacher Report video below, Chris Simms says Jameis was “unreal” and “old school” yesterday and labeled him the second-best QB in the NFC South.

Joe spoke and wrote numerous times this offseason about how Jameis needed to prove he wasn’t the worst best quarterback in the division in order for the Bucs to ascend significantly in the standings. His performance yesterday bodes very well for Jameis putting Matt Ryan in his rearview mirror.

Ok, I’ll bite. Who is the Best? Drew or cam? I love Jameis but don’t think he’s done enough to be considered better than either.

Ok next week Jamies has to keep it up. I’m not saying defense hold out the cards, but Jamies needs to do good. If not it shows him doing great against the Falcons, but a competitive team we struggle.

Cam Brees then Jameis and Ryan are tied for 3rd. If Jameis can manage to start skrong and be consistent throughout 4 quarters I’d put him up there with Brees.

Jameis still has much to prove. Yesterday was a good…no, a great…step toward doing that.

Okay man this nonesince. cam is a great QB,review the game from opening night cam was missing targets left and right. Check his stat for the game,unimpressive. you say hasn’t done enough to be considered better than cam well to that I’ll say cam hasn’t done enough. I get it he was given a mvp last season but look at every other year of his career and you’ll see cam is highly over rated. Just two season’s ago his play was being criticized. Before last season cam had the worse completion percentage of passes 20 or more yards down field. Chuck D told me years ago “don’t believe the hype” y’all need to try an wrap your minds around that concept when it comes to cam. If you wanna say Famous not better than Brees I’m okay wit that but cam man please.

Cause these people get infront of cameras and continually beat the drum for someone y’all just go for it. Me in looking at the total body of work. Right now as it stands Famous better cam. Spit ain’t even close. Folks come on this site day after day watch him throw inaccurate pass after inaccurate pass but act like cam great. That puzzles me.

Famous Jameis is only in his SECOND season. Brees, Matty Ice, and Cam are veteran QBs fer crissakes!! I have been a Brees fan ever since the Chargers drafted him, too. Patience, krewe, patience. Lawdy!!

This ‘best QB in NFC South’ seems meaningless. Cam, Matty Ice, Jameis, Drew … they each have their strengths & weaknesses. The only thing that’s really important is how well they play within their system. Cam, for instance, may not have the best passing stats of the four (tad over 3,800 yds), but he sure is the hardest to bring down as a runner (over 600 yds rushing last year in 132 attempts is pretty impressive). Drew Brees, in comparison, only had 14 yds rushing, but threw for well over 4,800 yds. They both work very well … within their own system.
What’s awesome about Jameis from my perspective is that he’s the perfect QB for the Bucs. He manages to keep plays alive very nicely with his running (over 200 yds last year is pretty impressive in itself), and his passing was excellent for a rookie (over 4,000 yds) and is definitely improving rapidly. He gives our offense all kinds of options and flexibility. I’d much rather have Jameis QB’ing the Bucs than any of the other 3.

Can’t compare how cam plays against Denver and how jameis plays against atlanta. I love jameis and don’t like cam, but cam played lights out last year and deserved the mvp. Until jameis puts up a better season than brees and cam, he is #3. But Imo top 10 in the league.

As a young teenager I grew up watching the likes of Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, and Roger Staubach leading their teams to championships, each with their own strengths and skill sets that made them successful. However, regardless of which of these legends i watched, there were three characteristics present in each of them that made them standout out amongst their peers.
First was their undeniable leadership in the huddle. They had the complete trust of the players knowing that with him leading them they could, if needed, part the Red Sea to gain victory.
Next, was their ability to survey the defense to quickly determine what the defense was about to do, quickly recognizing whether the intended play would work, and then changing it on the line to what would if not.
Last was their uncanny ability to run the play with the precision of a surgeon, as if they were conducting a philharmonic orchestra in Beethoven’s . They always seemed to dictate the speed of the play, regardless of the situation. The field was their canvas and they were the artist.
I have watched every Buccaneer QB that has ever started an NFL game since they joined the league in ‘76, patiently waiting and prayerfully hoping for that day that our team’s QB could one day be “That Guy”. Until now, none have, one or two may have come close for brief moments, but never lasting. Next up is Jameis Winston.
Clearly Jameis mastered the first characteristic in his first season, and by all evidence is well on his way to mastering the second. This season is the first true litmus test for the third. And right out the gate there is little doubt that 40-yrs. of hope and prayers are finally being answered because I do believe that James is “That Guy”.
Hallelujah, go Bucs!

Jiska I say people should be patient when it comes to cam. Yea last season was nice but I watched every cat game that was televised last season. I’m willing to bet he was the least blitz QB in the league last season. Until he dose it in consecutive seasons I ain’t buying this cam noise.

Nosbos I love reading your stuff brother. You are one of those rare dudes who is even more optimistic than me!!! I love it!
As for which QB is better Cam or #3 I take your points and do not disagree other than “officially”.
Cam still has scoreboard on #3…two wins against him and an appearance in the SB. But both players are young with a decade or more ahead of them.
#3 will have the chance to outshine Cam in the next several years. For now though…I wouldn’t trade #3 for Cam but I still gotta give Cam and the Stinkin’ Panthers scoreboard until we go out there and take it away from them.
I’m like you though…I believe that’s only a matter of time…and not a long time…maybe even this year but certainly by next…barring injuries of course.

With only 17 games as a body of work, I think it’s nuts to rank Winston as anything but a guy with a tremendous ceiling. I’m not taking anything away from what he’s done so far. But he’s still a work in progress. Let’s see where he stands at the end of this season before we hype the guy too much. I love what he’s done so far though.

@nole- Jameis is still a work in progress. Cam has lead his team to the playoffs 3 years in a row and is the MVP. I loved the end result but if Jameis was on all game long the end result wouldn’t have been so close.
I’m a big Jameis fan, but I’m not ready to annoint him just yet. Against the better defenses he has not looked good and again it’s only 17 games in.

4 years ago he was at the highschool allstar game playing football and baseball
jameis was 14 years old when Matt ryan started his 8 game home opener winning streak which was broken sunday
Carson Wentz is over 1 year older than Jameis

The progame is exactly what Jameis strengths is ment for. He will be playing for the next 17 years because he doesnt need his legs. He will have a Peyton Manning type career without the neck nerve damage…even similar to bradys
Because of his golden arm and his pocket presence he is here for 17 plus years

The NFC south is unquestionably the best quarterback division in football. So there’s really no point in ranking them, they’re all really good. As much as people want Drew Brees to drop from the top 5 his production hasn’t gone anywhere. Even Matt Ryan is still pretty good, he’s just recovering from the loss of coach Koetter.

Tampa Tony the south has sucked for awhile. The team with the most established defense over that span(the cats)should have been the team winning the division. As far as three str8 playoff appearances by cam I would lend more credit to that Rivera defense than I would to play of cam newton. This my issue with some of the opinions on this particular topic. How here felt anyone in Andrew Lucks division was better than him merely because they had been in the league longer when he was drafted???
