Glennon Has No Trade Value II

Bad games at the worst time.
Bucs fans are nearly unanimous in their belief: Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would be able to land a shiny new draft pick for Mike Glennon in a trade.
But after this August, Licht would be lucky to get a fifth-round pick for Glennon. Yes, really.
Not sure if you saw the game last night, but Glennon had a grand total of negative-one yard passing.
You read that right. Both you and Joe had more yards passing than Glennon. Zero is higher than negative-one.
Glennon has had a less than solid preseason. Oh, he played OK against Philly. He looked fine at Jacksonville. But Glennon has totally bottomed out at the worst time for him, his agent and his accountant. In the last two games, Glennon has thrown for three completions in 12 attempts for 12 yards.
Yes, 12 yards passing in the past two weeks, against the future ex-Redskins and the bungling Browns.
That was no way to raise whatever soft trade value Glennon had.
Not only has Glennon’s trade value bottomed out, so too has his bargaining power bottomed out.
Trading Glennon now? It’s not happening. There are better options for Minnesota and Dallas, including some backup quarterbacks who have either won playoff games, or played well in playoff games.
The time to have traded Glennon was before the draft. The window isn’t just shut now, it’s locked.
If Glennon had hoped to change to a Minnesota or Texas address prior to last night’s game, then he went about it all wrong.

Apparently Glennon has no more trade value after a couple meaningless pre season games. This is the same Glennon that lead a comeback win over Ben Roethesbergers Steerlers. And now he stinks after a couple practice reps with backups. Get real.

Have to agree with Joe. The Bucs were dumb for not selling high and Glennon did nothing to help his trade value.
So like commie sympathizer Colin Kaepernick he’s going to spend a lot of time sitting this year.

We all know Glennon is a much better QB than what we have seen these last four pre-season games.

I think this is by design. Financially is it not better to be in a bidding war as a Free agent? It’d you go to Dallas or Minnesota now you will not have the benefit of a off-season with the team , you are thrown to the wolves only to be replaced next year by a rookie.

As a free agent you get the big contract and a off-season. Also grew just had a kid and doesn’t want to move just yet.

To be fair to glennon, he made some nice throws last night that were all dropped so his numbers shouldn’t have looked that bad. Having said that, I don’t think he has much trade value either. Griffin looks as good or better. Bucs will let glennon walk without a fight next year.

I agree Joe. I think the Glennon trade conversation is done. He’ll be a Buc until his contract runs out and may come back after testing the market next year. When I think about each team in the NFL I can’t see him as a starter anywhere. Depending on how Prescott plays this year he may be the QB of the future in Dallas. Cutler is terrible but I don’t foresee Glennon beating him out. NO is a possibility depending on how Brees plays this season at 38. He won’t beat out any QB’s in the NFC West, Central, South or the AFC West. Houston is the only team in the AFC South that might be a possibility. SF needs a QB but he’s not a fit for Chips offense. I just don’t see a market for Glennon to go somewhere and start next season.

Get Real!!! Glennon NEVER had any SIGNIFICANT trade value. Light has said more than once he’s not had any calls about him. He’s a decent backup who knows the current offensive system, so he has value to the Bucs. He had a couple good games 2-3 years ago. Not nearly enough to compete for a starters job. Below average mobility, footwork, and vision downfield. Nice guy with a strong arm but his overall skill set has been massively over hyped…..at least on this site.

I don’t even want him as our back up. He will ne lucky to even be in the league 3 years from now. Jesus Christ guys referencing a win from 3 years ago lol. Several backups smoked the Bucs smashed the back over the past few years. It doesn’t mean they’re great QBs. Glennon sucks!

The problem at this point is that Glennon might bring the Bucs a high (4th round?) compensation pick when he signs as a free agent next year. So why give him away now for a 6th or 7th rd pick? That is, if we could get that…

Glennon is not an NFL starting caliber QB so I think he and his agent will be pretty disappointed at the offers he gets next year.
Also after watching the game last night I’m still very concerned about our depth.
Our starters are in the top rung of the NFL and if we stay healthy I am convinced we will be a playoff team this year.
However, I think the back half of our roster is still one of the worst in the NFL and last nights game only confirmed it.
If we have prolonged injuries at almost any starting position we are going to have real difficulties.

There will be NO 3, 4th or 5th round compensatory pick that is fantasy land dreaming. Glennon has always sucked and will always suck. He beat Pittsburgh IN Pittsburgh…HIS play had us ahead of Seattle and New Orleans again in their own houses until Schiano’s D choked.
The incredibly limited amount of play in preseason games with scrubs will not materially affect his value. That value will be judged over two YEARS of acual performance in REAL games…not a half dozen quarters of preseason games against scrubs with scrubs who have hands of stone.
Todd Moncken must have had a sleepless night….helll even our bcks dropped shorts passes.
Time will tell on MG8. But he has no wear and tear on his body….threee years of experience…and he throws a nice ball….wish it was ME and not Shepherd who had the shot at the perfectly thrown but well defended ball.

Watched the tube last night, and Ronde kept saying Bucs had their 3 QBs. Koetter has liked MG8 since Lovie brought him here as OC. They know more about this game than a bunch of cyber loudmouths on here. MD8 will back up Famous. He becomes a FA next year. It’s a positive situation. We have a serious problem with depth at other positions like the DL.

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, there is ZERO chance the Bucs get a COMPENSATORY DRAFT pick for Glennon, even if he signs for $20 million a year, the Bucs have $65 million in CAP SPACE, and they have to spend it, the way it works is the Bucs have to lose players that sign significant contracts with other teams and not sign enough big money contracts to warrant a draft pick to even the competitive scales, or to COMPENSATE the teams lost players, with $65 million the Bucs will sign a few good valued free agents, so STOP thinking Glennon is worth a COMPENSATORY pick

St Pete, he is two years removed from playing meaningful football and obviously the Bucs have not received any decent offers for Glennon. Time has already passed and NFL franchises have determined what Glennon is. Now that we have a real franchise QB it is scary to think how hopeless we would be if Glennon was the starter. No GM out there views Glennon as any thing other than a back up. In fact, I think there are plenty of back ups out there who are just as good if not better than Glennon.

Last night is one thing, but haven’t really seen any progression through this entire offseason by Glennon. Looks like he’ll be the backup this season. No reason to move him if there is no value and he isn’t a big cap hit to keep for insurance.

Wins and Good Plays have expiration dates. You can not hold onto the past when the present video blows. 8 has had 2 preseasons to make a statement and not only has he not taken the bull by the horns, he has regressed. There is NO clear winner 8 vs 4… I have NO confidence in either of them. Now back to my point, the meaningless win in Pittsburgh expired at the start of the very next seasons. I’ll give you three years for a Superbowl or significant playoff win but a meaningless win against a Pittsburgh team who clearly did not take the bucs seriously expired and can no longer be used to prop a player who has regressed and done nothing to earn the confidence of players, coaches and fans.

did you listen to the Licht interview last night? There have been NO calls for him. In his words ” It takes 2 to Tango” They know he has had a bad couple preseason nights. But they have also evaluated him in practice. They have reached out to him. So now why do you think Griffin is here? Unless someone does want Glennon he is here for the season. If you don’t like it friggin bad. Next season you may get your wish.

Glennon has NEVER gotten a chance to compete for the starting job. Even when he did get the starting job he ONLY had a BYE week at most to get ready to play. He NEVER got an offseason to practice with the starters and still played good enough to win. He had a span where he should have won 5 out of 6 games if the defense wouldn’t have given the games away on the final drives. These preseason games mean NOTHING when it comes down to it. He is playing with backup receivers who couldn’t catch a cold AND he STILL only has one turnover. Griffen has 4 INT’s and ONLY 1 TD drive while MG8 has 2. If Glennon played with the first team offense you would see how good he really is. That and a little game planning would go a long way. I sure hope JW is as good as you ALL are making him out to be, otherwise we blew it BIGTIME! MG8 has 29 TD’S and ONLY 15 INT’s which means he takes care of the football which is more than I can say for MOST QB’s in the league. That is the MOST important STAT when it comes down to it. Can’t wait until he gets a REAL chance to compete for a starting job because he will win it and I will have a second team to root for. Hopefully one that can make the Playoffs on a regular basis and NOT have double digit losing seasons EVERY year. Would love to see you guys be wrong after running MG8 outta town.

I’ve never REALLY understood this MG mob thing Joe brings up. Then I read the comments above DEFENDING Glennon and saying we know he’s better than that. Look up the definition of insanity, then look in the mirror, folks – there’s your picture to go along with that definition. Mike Glennon isn’t good enough to be the backup QB on 2/3 of the teams in the NFL. Fortunately for him, he is on one of the other 1/3 of the teams. Glennon did nothing but lose the season he started. Just because a guy goes 27-42 for 195yds 1 TD and 1 INT does NOT mean he’s a good QB. Those are 2-14 QB numbers. Period. Glennon, at this rate, will be out of the league within 3 years.

Tony I am with you and am amazed at BigStinky’s post. I have to assume they have never actually seen Glennon play when they defend him. Why in the hell would any GM trade for him. Most sane Buc fans assume the season ends if Jameis gets hurt. We assume this because the back ups on this team are not quality calibur NFL QBs. No GM is going to give up any meaningful pick when they can pick up a 5th or 6th rounder next season to be their back up. They may bring him in for a work out if the Bucs release him, but they are not trading for this guy.

You are acting like the preseason counts for something. Yeah those stats are NOT the greatest, but how many passes have been dropped? We ONLY have like 4 WR’s on our team that can even get open or catch a pass consistently. Like I said, wait until he gets a REAL chance to compete for a job and see how he does. Nobody cares about the preseason and a lot of you are acting like he is playing with first teamers AND NOT SCRUBS. Jameis ONLY looked good against the Browns and MG8 ONLY looked good against the Jags. We will see next year, after Jameis plays out this season and Glennon moves on, no big deal. I just hope we find a better backup than Griffin before then because you WILL miss Glennon when that happens.

Jumping in late! I didn’t get to see the first half but they alluded to the overall production of Glennon and the offense. I didn’t see him play but if the WRs were as bad in the first half as they were in the 2nd half, I can only imagine. Neither he nor Griffin got much help.
Look, it is what it is. He’s going to be the back-up for Jameis, plain and simple. That we didn’t garner a draft pick by trading him means nothing because we wouldn’t have had the pick otherwise.
I will say that I was disappointed overall with the performance last night, as was coach and GM. For guys to lay such a big stinky egg on a night they needed to shine makes me shake my head.

We definitely won’t get more than a 7th round compensatory pick for Glennon, if that. Guzzie, we don’t have 65 million in cap space, and even if we did, compensatory picks only go by what you lose and gain in FA. We could theoretically spend that space on our players and the compensatory pick would be higher. He’s either gonna walk and we get “nothing”, or he signs a deal to backup Winston. Us getting a high compensatory pick, or him signing a “big money” deal are both jokes.
