Freeman Not Ready

Joe has already described his concern for the development of Bucs rookie quarterback Josh Freeman. Seems as though Joe’s not the only guy concerned.
So too is Dan Parr of ProFootballWeekly.com.
Parr write that Freeman being inactive for the Bucs season-opener against Dallass is proof positive Freeman is not ready.
Instead of putting Freeman in a potentially precarious position, the Bucs, who have to be skeptical about the durability of the often-injured Leftwich, are trying to protect their rookie signalcaller. Leftwich hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2006, and he was never healthy enough to make 16 starts in a season when he was in the prime of his career with the Jaguars. If his injury woes continue, Freeman will be one snap away from getting thrust into a situation team observers say he isn’t close to being prepared to handle. The Bucs would be content to let Freeman learn from the sideline for the duration of this season.
Joe has stated in the past that it would ruin Freeman if he was to start early this season. Rushing him could ruin him.

He’ll be learning from the best. He watched Tony Romo beat us. Now he gets to watch Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Chad Pennington, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Donov…and Matt Hasslebeck beat us.

I begining to think that this regime at OBP may not be long for this gig.
Ruin Freeman? Not every young QB is Ryan Leaf and everybody will react differently. You can also protect a guy to much . Back in the day it was called mollycoddling.

This is all so odd. Why fire King Jon and then go super cheap? I think he is still making more than the entire new staff combined…………..somehow this feels like Ray Perkins all over again…….

In response to TPABayFlyFisher. They have been cheap since we won the superbowl. It just doesn’t seem that was because the Gruden /Kiffen got the most out of these rosters.

Joe- I think we should go ahead and play Freeman. We can start running him out of town now instead of next season.

Joe, I think you may be right about Freeman. You called him Bust in Waiting, and I agree with you. Yea sure, you can’t predict the future, but you can follow your instincts or gut feelings. I think Freeman was a waste of a 1’st round pick when the Bucs could have drafted an immediate impact player. I would like to see Freeman’s Wonderlic Scores. Remember Vince Young’s scores. Look how Vince has turned out. You have to think quickly and correctly to play QB in the NFL. Bust, bust, bust.

BTW Joe, how is this news…Maybe to the national media, but Raheem said weeks ago that Freeman will mosdef not be playing this year unless an extreme situation happened…He is the #2 for practice rep purposes ONLY…Josh Johnson is supposed to be, in Raheem’s words our, the “career backup” he wants him here for the next decade from what I understood…

Come on guys…give leftwich some credit…I thought he looked pretty damn good for his first game…hell our whole offense looked great minus winslow dropping that wide open catch on 4th down….we had 450 yds total offense…how many times did that happen with gruden and his senior citzen qb’s? If our d fense and special teams can get the heads out of there asses I think we got a pretty good shot at being a wild card team(maybe not this year because of schedule) but any other year…I def think we are a better team than the cowgirls..if it wasn’t for a few big plays our d let by we would have won that game…GO BUCS!!!

It does not matter if anyone thinks he is a bust “in waiting” or a waste of a 1st rounder.
The pick is in and this team is “married” to him. Time to move on from what might have been or what many thought was the wrong pick.
Freeman will at some point be the starting QB on this team. The sooner we know what we have the better.
The only ? is when and according to many the timing must be right for success. But success is not always the best teacher.
