Vinatieri To Aguayo: Call Me

August 26th, 2016

AguayoMaybe it’s a good thing the Bucs-Browns game is nationally televised tonight on CBS.

Let Roberto Aguayo shake the demons from his head for the whole country to see. Lord knows nobody watching the game will be heading to the toilet when/if the Bucs have to kick an extra point.

Yes, the Aguayo obsession has gone national. Even legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri, the Colts’ future Hall of Famer, has weighed in to ESPN.

ProFootballTalk.com explained.

While answering questions about Aguayo’s struggles, Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri recalled being told by then-Patriots coach Bill Parcells that he was on thin ice after missing five field goals in the first four games of his rookie year and said he’s willing to share what he’s learned with the rookie.

“He can give me a call anytime he wants to,” Vinatieri said, via ESPN.com. “There’s a brotherhood with the specialists. There’s not many of them and we don’t get any respect, so we have to show a little respect for each other. We have to help each other out if we have the opportunity.”

Man, Joe hopes Aguayo doesn’t hear about this offer from Vinatieri. The poor kid doesn’t need yet another voice in his head.

Enough already.

All anyone can tell Aguayo is to relax, and he already has heard that about 200 times.

Maybe Aguayo needs to take basic anxiety medication, get drunk for a couple of days, or find creative forms of stress relief. Or maybe he just needs what Dirk Koetter says is good for everyone — competition.

He just needs to put his head down and kick the ball straight. Forget about the outside voices.

It would be nice if the fans don’t boo his next miss either, especially in preseason! Once the regular season starts… well… he better have some thick skin.

  2. JonBuc Says:

I respectfully diasagee, Joe(s). I think Vinatieri could offer up useful prerspective. With Parcells a whisker away from cutting him, AV turned it around and has become perhaps the most clutch kicker of all time. I think it’s a generous offer actually.

  3. Doctork2 Says:

I would have to disagree with you Joe on this one. If there is one voice to listen to this might be the one. Vinatieri has made more pressure kicks than most . A been there done that guy. . He might have the recipe for Roberto to relax

  4. Buc1987 Says:

    Put it through Aguayo!

  5. head ball coach dirk Says:

Out of all the ppl in the world to contact and seek guidance from, AV is the one to reach out to. He would be the one voice I want in my head if I’m Roberto

  6. Brian Says:

Find a fluffer for pre-kick situations.

  7. salish_seamonster Says:

I think a little cannabis will set him up just right.

  8. DB55 Says:

    we don’t get any respect

When ya say Roberto’s name – Put some RESPEK on it.

  9. BigHogHaynes Says:

If thus guy misses a field goal tonite…..he should be the first cut to get the roster down to 75 players, then bring him back to the practice squad!

  10. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

And here I was thinking we were going to make it the whole day without a post about a kicker

    Oh well…there’s always tomorrow

  11. JSmalls Says:

Don’t boo him? He’s an active player getting paid handsomely to perform a job. Any entertainer that doesn’t perform up to expectations deserves to get booed.

  12. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I say bring in a kicker for competition. we are wasting a roster spot on Griffin right now anyways. cut him and bring in competition where its needed.

I do think that Aguayo will iron this out. but lets not be caught with our pants down if its 3 games in and he is still missing all his kicks. have the competition and the contingency ready even if he sorts it all out.

Griffin is a wasted roster spot, he isnt backup ready. If we really need a backup in a pinch there are plenty of journeyman QBs who we can pick up, while they are obviously subpar, its a step up from Griffin and allows us an extra roster spot.

  13. TEBUCS Says:

Maybe he needs to ride down the street from Ray J and get him a slump buster……

  14. DB55 Says:

Do you people even read? Looking at you BIGHOG

“He was on thin ice after missing five field goals in the first four games of his rookie year”

That’s the hall of fame, world champion kicker there, he missed FG his rookie year. And played for Parcell.

God didn’t not give you a brain as a decoration. USE YOUR BRAIN SON!

  15. SB with Jameis Says:

    LOL Brian!!!!!…:)

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Any advice from a kicking great like Vinatieri is good advice. So my advice to Aguayo is…..Call the man son and call him quickly!!

  17. OhioBuc Says:

When ya say Roberto’s name – Put some RESPEK on it.

My favorite linebacker of all time DB55 for the win!

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Call him up kid. Cheech Marin is also pretty good with these things.

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

The most excited I have been about my team in years and we are talking about a kicker?

  20. Doctor Stroud Says:

After Aguayo takes his “basic anxiety medication”, he may run the risk of violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy and not be able to…oh, now I see!

  21. PanthersSuck! Says:

    Just tap it in.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo has been relatively quiet about “Roberto’s Woes” Pablo is biased so Pablo thinks Roberto is missing on purpose so that fans will accept a miss or two down the road. Pablo thinks that if there is another voice in Roberto’s head it should be from Martin Gramatica…..that is a voice he would most understand.”

  24. Architek Says:

I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO LEAVE THE KID ALONE AND LET HIM GROW.

Geez it’s like watching FoxNews covering the DNC. There is nothing but media spin on the kid and has yet to kick a meaningful field goal.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

gotta call vinaieri….if its one person he should talk and listen to its him…GO BUCS!!!

  26. pick6 Says:

unfortunately for players, creative forms of stress relief are forbidden under the NFL substances of abuse policy and\or personal conduct policy

  27. Trubucfan22 Says:

Aguayo needs to pick up the phone and make that call. A person with actual experience in the matter is the only one qualified to be in his head. Get the other crap out, and replace it with whatever AV has to say.

  28. Bob in Valrico Says:

    Sort of silly ,Joe
A lot of our young players have mentors on the team.Kwan reached out to Sean Lee.The best way to fail at anything is not be open to good advice.
And your article details that Vinatiere has been through this before. So ,who better to seek advice from.

  29. Buccfan37 Says:

Aguayo will get plenty of respect when he kicks within the uprights. Just kick the damn ball straight towards the target. He may need to be a frequent scorer.

  30. Bob in Valrico Says:

If I was Jason Licht I would be setting up that phone call or meeting right now.We have a big investment in Aguayo and if there is chance Vinatieri can help, why not take advantage of it.

  31. Brent bull/buc Says:

Maybe dk should have his water bottle spiked with some Jack Daniels for relaxing.

  32. Tom S. Says:

I disagree with Joe, Aguayo could use the support from a HOF kicker who can tell him personally of his own struggles and how he overcame them. Vinateri isn’t going to coach the kid, he’s going to offer up his own story. Which can only help now that we’re in this mess.

  33. R.O Says:

The message here is stop being short term thinkers. Short term pain, long term gain. Everybody 1. Roots for people to fail. 2. Thinks because he misses some kicks or shanks one he sucks. You think Michael Jordan never shot an air ball or missed a free throw.. Come on. It’s the long term that matters.

  34. THETRUTH Says:

    DB55—

On the money you are with people not reading , Tampa fans would have cut ADAM V., Peyton mammon and many more after first few games. They have no patients, probably same fans who say get rid of McCoy and didn’t notice we had no pass rush last week when he was out or any other year . Don’t notice McCoy has never had support around him.

Kid won’t get cut so support him especially since the mental part is so big at this position.

  35. Dewey Selmon Says:

What would happen if the doctor prescribed marijuana? lol

  36. unbelievable Says:

    @DB55 and THETRUTH.

    Spot on.

But, this is the fanbase of the Bucs after all…

  37. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Aguayo should be on the phone with Vinitieri so much that he has to put him on hold to kick field goals!

  38. Pickgrin Says:

Yup – send him to Mons with a pocketful of cash. Slump Buster time…
