“I Appreciate It”
August 18th, 2016New Bucs defensive end Robert Ayers is a cool dude with high standards. It seems, from both talking to Ayers and talking to others in the organization, Ayers has brought a bite to the defensive unit that was both wanted and needed.
In some respects, Ayers, has become a team leader the way he drives teammates to excel and how he demonstrates an exactly working ethic at practice.
Hold up, Ayers said from Jacksonville yesterday. There is one leader of the defense, and that is Gerald McCoy.
You can see Ayers’ speak in the Buccaneers.com video below. But Ayers also had a kind message for fans who believe he is taking over the culture of the defense.
“If those guys think that about about me, then I appreciate it,” Ayers said.

GMC is the leader of this DEFENSE, don’t add nothing or take anything away, no reading between the lines!!! Good Morning Haters! You know who your are!!

He may not be Simeon Rice but he does have an edge to him like Simeon did, luv it

@bighoghaynes
Don’t agree with you a lot but I do agree that GMC is the unquestioned leader of this D. He will have a solid year and shut the haters up.

Oh Joe…….please let us do a caption contest for that pic.
GMC: “Now Robert, when I’m helping an opposing player up off the ground I always do it from the right hand side, I just find that it’s a much nicer way”.

Kudos to ayers. A beast that is also a humble dude. Can’t wait to see the defensive line in meaningful games
August 18th, 2016 at 7:59 am
Oh good, more “leader” talk.
August 18th, 2016 at 8:17 am
Doosh, I’m a GMC fan, but I can still laugh at your post. Thanks.

I have no issue with Ayers words. GMC for the first time in his pro career looks to his left and right and sees what NFL network’s Nate Burlesone calls the “technology”. Pieces that he can clearly see will help shoulder the load. Not tp mention some dudes wit a little rough rider edge to them. This unit clearly appears to be in bout that action mode. Bodes well for not only for the defense but the entire team as a whole.

I appreciate what GMC does for our defense physically, but I think he will be a much more impactful leader this year since Jameis told him that we need him to be more vocal (i.e. openly passionate).
Kwon and Ayers bring the nasty though; which every defense needs.

Good players play hard and impact the game and have some personal success in their respective role, but Great players motivate other players and drive the team to excel and have success; therefore increasing their own level of success as a byproduct of that.
Maybe GMC will actually become Great now…
Thank you, Jameis, for trying to elevate everyone’s game in any way you can!!! We love you. ❤ THAT’S HOW THE TRULY GREAT ONES DO IT.

Gmc is not a leader and the results speak for themselves. If gmc was a true leader HIS led defensive units would play hard and smart rgardless of talent but instead of playing hard and smart gmc led defebsive units have QUIT on three coaching staffs and played mentally weak. Gmc is a good but not great play who is NOT a leader no matter how many politically correct statements you read from his peers or BS media types. There is no excuse gor quiting on coaches must less 3 and there is no excuse for defenses to not play hard.

Yeah………..
Okay.

“Thank you, Jameis, for trying to elevate everyone’s game in any way you can!!! We love you.”
Too funny Erik. Still don’t think you’ll ever be a bigger Jameis fan than me.
Told ya you’d fall in love though. Just remember I saw him first!

Hater Zombies… One bite and you become a hater.
August 18th, 2016 at 9:21 am
McCoy is not a leader? Nobody is when you are consistently losing. McCoy is pulling his weight. To bad the rest of the Defense has not done so in the past.
August 18th, 2016 at 9:31 am
every leader needs a couple hatchet men in the locker room, especially leaders who are not naturally going to get in somebody else’s face or call them out. it’s a good dynamic and one i’m not sure we’ve had in several years on defense
August 18th, 2016 at 9:35 am
I have never seen so many “leaders” on a team!!! do they hand that title out when they get their uniforms!!!!! and so many new leaders coming in and delivering a refreshing change??? New leaders being reported that they are needed!!! The question at this point is who is not a leader??? Another question at the start of games when GMC93 says his 3 sentences then all eyes will turn to another leader and say “OK, now what are we really gonna do??”
August 18th, 2016 at 9:40 am
MJ and pick6 I’m in agreement.
August 18th, 2016 at 9:54 am
Will one of the non-haters please explain to me why the Leader GMC gets a free pass for the team not playing hard and quiting on 3 coaches which is unquestionable if you watched any games in the last 6 years. So many of you like to live in the past and compare everything to the Sapp, Brooks, Lynch era so let me ask the question this way would Sapp , Brooks or Lynch allow their feloww defenders to quit on a play much less an entire game or worse yet would sapp , lynch or brooks let their fellow defenders quit on 3 coaches. … can’t wait to hear t
August 18th, 2016 at 9:55 am
^^^^ can’t wait to read the excuses and brush offs… look gmc is a good but not great player stop trying to make him something he is not.
August 18th, 2016 at 10:00 am
if a single one of those players was on the past teams then yeah tmax, we would be saying the same about them. if gmc was teammates w brooks lynch etc then we wouldnt be saying this about him. take out brooks sapp lynch and look at every other person on the defense of those teams and now compare those players to what gmc had. not to mention the coaching. gmc is solely responsible for the raheem morris fiasco. as well as the unpreparedness of schiano. thats all on gmc.
come on man
get over it ese
August 18th, 2016 at 10:09 am
Look at you gangbangin over breakfast smh cmon man (Chris Berman voice ) enough already
August 18th, 2016 at 10:13 am
head ball coach dirk
I am nit comparing talent and wins you clearly are missing the point a trye leader would never let his team quit once mych less week in and week out. It doesn’t take talented or all pro players to play hard
August 18th, 2016 at 10:35 am
What I’m saying is you can’t hold gmc responsible for the other 20 players that play defense. All pro sapp could not have made Adrian slowborn..great nickname.. And sabby the goat play harder or play better. And those were some of the “best” players on gmc led teams that quit.

Whoops. Haven’t used that comp in a while esp not to comment here and it still had my original name that I went away from. Did not realize that. My b.
Point still stands
