Koetter: “Not Nervous, Just Pissed”
August 11th, 2016Hey, kudos to Dirk Koetter for his first ever game as an NFL head coach.
So how did it feel, Coach?
Joe asked Koetter in Philadelphia tonight whether he had any strong emotions leading up to today’s historic game.
“Not necessarily before the game, because preseason is not necessarily real,” Koetter said. “You know, I didn’t get quite the same butterfly feeling that I get for a regular season game. But when we got punched in the mouth like we did to start the game, I kind of just got pissed off, to be honest with you. Not nervous, just pissed, because we can’t play like that and expect to win.”
Yes, Koetter was very down on Kenny Bell’s fumble of the opening kickoff, and he didn’t like the penalties and the overall special teams play. “Five turnovers and nine points, you can’t win like that,” Koetter said. “Other than no-huddle, there was really nothing else good about the offense.”
Joe asked Koetter if how he felt about transitioning from playcaller to playcaller and head coach.
Interestingly, Koetter acknowledged “I’m in a learning curve on that” and said the evidence is the Bucs scoring nine points.

I really hope koetter will use no huddle a lot in games. The players love it and it always seems to be successful. Obviously we don’t need to be a Oregon type offense but mixing it into the offense to gain some momentum when the offense is stalling, would be great to see. Im so happy to have an offensive coach again. No more trying to run the clock in the second and third quarters in a pathetic attempt to protect a 1 fg lead.
Thank you Mr. Koetter.

Agreed on the no huddle.
And I believe they will, Marty ice used to go into the hurry up pretty effectively at times when dirk was there.

I was most disappointed to see Bell let up on the pass thrown his way in the endzone toward the end of the game. Dude looked like he just quit. I understand it’s preseason, but he’s on the bubble. He shoulda been putting in max effort.

That start would have even pissed off Lovie Smith tonight. lol
Praying we win the first game or we’re going to starting hearing fire koetter comments.

Coach should be mad. Shnit sucked tonight. That GM should be worried along with the terrified coaching staff and fan base. Maybe he doesn’t know he can no longer take shelter from blame behind his uncle Lovie?

Digital Bob, I thought the same thing until I saw the reply and it showed how far behind and over his head it was. Not close at all on the 2nd angle 5 feet over his head and 3 feet behind him.
Unlike some around here I’m not relishing in this guys misfortune I’ll continue to root for all the guys to play well. The best thing for the Bucs is for all the WRs to play well and make it a though decision for the coaches.

Penalties. Is it just because the bucs have been one of the worst teams for over a decade with the most penalties in nfl history last year we get called for a lot of these and other teams dont get called? EVERYONE had to see that pass interference on mike evans deep that wasn’t called. I saw a big hold on Noah where we ended up getting a pass interference. And what the hell was that offensive pass interference on Kenny bell with the flag thrown about 30 seconds after the play where i dont think there was even any contact. I think just cus we have a bad rep we get f%!&cked over and it really pisses me off

Personally love Coach K’s attitude: “Not nervous, just pissed, because we can’t play like that and expect to win.” Poor special teams play, penalties and turnovers killed us last night, especially early-on. Sure hope none of that carries over to the regular season.
Offensively I was impressed with how well Jameis rebounded after his turnover. Drove ’em right down the field and it looked like he was in total command the whole time. Defensively was impressed with the coverage of our starting secondary. They did a lot of good stuff last night, including provide adequate time for the pass rush to get there (several sacks were coverage sacks I thought). Not at all impressed though with our ability to stop the run; thought we got run over pretty good in that 1st qtr. DLine didn’t seem to be protecting their lanes all that well. Like Coach K said though, there’s a learning curve. It’ll take some time for it all to come together.

84 guys played tonight. There was no game planing. This game will determine candidates for the first round of cuts. Turnovers and penalties killed the Bucs and killed any mortally wounded any chance some players had at making this roster. The Defense is much improved and the offense is promising. STs needs to sort out who’s staying and who’s gone.

Tmaxcon and Realist: I will simply say this team looks worse than last year except for Spence, which we didn’t have last year! I’m now thinking we won’t win 5 games this year! We cleaned house and tonite it seems to have been a very bad move! Simple as that!

O for overhyped and overworshipped
August 12th, 2016 at 7:17 am
@ defense
D line seemed to missing Will Gholston for his run stopping ability.
Akeem Spence looked pretty good at D tackle ,good for the rotation Smith
wants on D line.
@ Big Hog once again your blind faith for Lovie has clouded your judgement.
There was a lot of defensive pressure from the D line. and the corners actually made some plays and broke up passes.corners were in better position to make plays including Banks .

@BigdogHaynes
WOOOOOOWWWWW
That’s the dumbest thing I’d heard anyone say in years.
You sure as hell know that’s not true. Defense was actually dominate literally a completely different league compared to that garbage Charmin defense that lovie trotted out.
You guys crack me up. You are looking so hard to show why lovie shouldn’t have been hired that you are completely blind.
I am thankful for people like you cause it gives me something to laugh about

My god people are stupid. It’s the first preseason game for a new coaching staff. They been practicing as a team for 2 weeks. People like DallasBuc are calling out the GM. Really???
This team was 6-10 last year so obviously there are upgrades to be made. First and probably foremost would be the play of the DLine. That area looked greatly improved last night. If that continues, then a lot of other good things start to happen. Ayers, Spence, Hargraves, Grimes…all are upgrades of talent on this defense.

Listen, I know it’s pre-season but anyone who finds that performance acceptable needs to stop drinking the kool-aid. Koetter should be ticked! Penalties and special teams killed us last year and don’t give me that “new HC crap!” Koetter was in charge of the offense last year.
There were some improvements, but again, in a pre-season game. We’ve got a ways to go and I would expect improvement as the season progresses.
Go Bucs!

Im liking the cooter! Gonna be a damn good HC.
