The stale air of Lovie Smith’s press conferences are long gone.
The fresh scent of Dirk Koetter’s no-BS, straight-shooting press conferences are now en vogue at One Buc Palace.
That’s the analysis of the Custodian of Canton, eye-RAH! Kaufman, who discussed this with Mike Florio on Pro Football Talk Live during an appearance on NBC Sports Radio yesterday.
eye-RAH! noted how refreshing it is to deal with a straight shooter like Koetter over the stonewalling and sometimes misleading trickle of words from Lovie (just ask tweety Austin Seferica-Jenkins about how Lovie was misleading at times). Kaufman cited some recent examples of Koetter’s sometimes brutal honesty and how fans and media alike are warming to this fun approach.
Also, Kaufman has pointed out how Koetter recently implied that Team Glazer is staying out of his way on personnel matters.
“Where a guy was picked, how much money a guy makes — I could care less about that,” Koetter said. “Now, I might get a call from the big bosses and they might come and say, ‘Hey, do this,’ but I haven’t got that call yet.”
Now this has Joe’s attention. Joe would love deep, true answers. Is Team Glazer wont to tell a coach or general manager who to play or who to cut?
Was one reason Lovie was jettisoned his ignoring of pleas from Team Glazer? It’s not like that hasn’t happened before.
(Why, hello Father Dungy! Hey, Chucky, you too, man! Thought you’d be hanging out with Hooters Calendar girls nursing a cold frosty or two?)

Koetter doesn’t reveal any state secrets and he doesn’t sugarcoat the truth.you can believe whatever comes out of his mouth. I love it and I’m sure everyone in the Buccaneer organization does too. A franchise QB is a great thing to have, but a franchise HC is even more important. Hopefully, the Glazer family realizes that fact.

So ‘brutal honesty’ from one HC results in speculation from the media about what really transpired between other HCs and ownership? (Lovie? Dungy? Chucky?) Not all that hard to see why HCs often become guarded in their responses to media questions across-the-board.

coach my scheme press conference stale??? Hate to break it to the sheep, but it was all down hill after that!!! The most exciting thing that happened during the coach my scheme regime was when he was FIRED!!!!!! I do not know how any player for the Bucs stayed awake for the incompetent one’s speeches!!! Between the monotone BS that went on and on and going nowhere!!!!!! I purchased a fancy espresso machine so I could make it thru halftime and stay awake thru the rest of the blowout watching the Bucs!!!! Then only to hear the Incompetent One start with the BS at the end of how they will work to fix this and that!!!!! How there were some positives!!!!!! How the Blowout was just one game!!!!!!!

Honest to god, I used to watch the lovie pressers on my phone and lay down in bed if I couldn’t sleep- they put me to sleep every time! I’m going to miss that..

I know they write the checks which does make them the top dogs, but i really hope they are not telling the team who to play. Maybe Malcolm could but not the three little pigs

the Glazers seem content to let their GMs GM and their coaches coach as long as everyone seems to be meeting expectations. Each coach was brought in with different mandates (“turn us around”, “put us over the top”, “rebuild through youth”, “stop the embarassment”, “maximize our potential with the special talent we have at QB”). They’ve been consistent in staying in the background during the season and when things appear to be going towards the goal they’ve set. I think that’s the right way to do it. People will get on them regarding the turnover but the coaches and GMs were clearly failing relative to the mandate they were given.

I didn’t watch Lovie Smith’s press conferences at all last year. Heck, I only watched a few of Jameis’s (better everyday was usually his subject matter) and he is my favorite player since Deion Sanders. I didn’t miss a live Dirk Koetter press conference all season
