“Guys Playing Football The Way They Really Know How To Play Football”

August 7th, 2016
Times have changed a lot, says Lavonte David.

Times have changed a lot, says Lavonte David.

Lavonte David sat down this week for candid chat with BSPN.

Maybe it was the bright lights and national audience, but David, a typically reserved guy, really opened up.

The full video is below, and Joe highly recommends it.

Some highlights:

David says the change from Lovie Smith to Mike Smith translates to “guys playing football the way they really know how to play football. You know, not thinking too much. Not thinking about playing a certain technique. They just out there playing football, being the best athletes they can.”

On Brent Grimes: David gushes: “No lost step. The way he breaks on the ball is unbelievable. I’ve never seen a break on the ball like that before.”

On Kwon Alexander: David says he finds himself studying the second-year linebacker’s movement, athleticism and intensity. David said he plays with “attitude” and without fear. “Every time he makes a tackle, he just wants to dominate the ball carrier. And I like that. That’s they type of guy I needed beside me.”

On Carolina: David says the Bucs didn’t attack Cam Newton enough.

Yes, folks, it’s a very new day in Tampa Bay. Whether that translates to wins is unknown.

i’m very excited about the defense… i think they’re going to surprise people this year

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

Sounds like all the players now know what an upgrade in coaching that they are getting this year!!! Going from no adjustments, an antiquated, passive system with really no game plan in place, to what they are being taught and witnessing must seem very inspiring for team moral!!!!!!!!

Cannot wait to see this all translate to the field, and hopefully it comes together quickly during this season!!!!!! Coaches must purge all the “lovie” out of these players so they can finally reach max potential!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie who? Oh yeah , been watching Gilligan’s Island reruns.

  4. LUVMYBUCS Says:

The only thing that’s really missing from this Linebacker Core.
Is that Hybrid Strong Side – Big Nickle Back.
Outside of that – this unit should be lights out.

Ironically Mark Barron now plays that role w/L.A

  6. Kevin Says:

This season can’t get started quick enough

On Mike Smiths first presser he stated that he would let the defensive players play to their strengths. It appears he has. I love this concept, but you still have to have a base scheme or you could literally have a Chinese fire drill on your hands. On each play you base you’re defense on what the offense shows you (player group, motion), down and distance, and months of film preparation. Containment and discipline are necessary. To state that a player is going to play to his strengths conflicts with concept of discipline. the unit has to be on the same page each play, hence what an individual player deems his strength on a given play could result in chaos. Coaching is still the key. Mike Smith was by far our most Valuable Free Agent this offseason and I trust him completely.

  10. SB with Jameis Says:

I just watched all of the ‘First Take’s with Jameis, Dougie, LVD, and GMC. I want to know why it is ok for an African American mention how they were fond of someone else or a coach cause they were African American and it is not Racism
However If I say I really liked my coach cause he is White Im a racist prick. Jeeeesh
Sorry to bring it up but it just bugs me because I am the most Anti Racist person I know.

Teacherman Joe called for Barron being converted before anybody!

    @joe

    Check ur archives!

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m not eating the..yellow snow. Show me, show us, you can field a winning football team first. Then I’ll get a bowl of the stuff. Everybody is 16-0 right now. Talk is rampant and cheaper than current gas prices. Somebody here says they are starting to think we are going to make the playoffs this year. Ok, Just give me some of that stuff..you are smoking!

  13. BigHogHaynes Says:

SB/wJ: let me in unravel that for you. They are just proud of the fact that the person in power ie: head coach is a person that looked like them, simple as that, now when you say I love my coach cause he white and your white then it raises a flag to me because more than likely you’ve had a white head coach before, you know that’s more like a normal thing! But when you have no malice in your heart say what you feel! For myself I try to be careful what and how I say things around a mixed group big people but if you come out your mouth reckless poking at me with that red flag i’ma chop you up! Respect one another and watch your tongue. I’m just speaking from my own experience! SB/wJ

  15. Head Ball Coach Dirk Says:

Odd that lavonte noted gmc as a leader!! Whaaaat. He said gmc called him and said he’s tired of losing

All of what realist and tmax say is just garbage about Gerald with their made up claims Gerald likes losing and he’s the only one who considers himself a Leader

  16. matt Says:

Glad to see they’re playing football..

Barron had trouble in pass coverage still with the Rams. Plus, we landed Kwon because of the Barron deal, if I’m not mistaken.

The best chance at a playoff spot is winning the division. Seattle, Arizona, Carolina, Minnesota, Green Bay, NFC East Winner are the six favorites going into the season to secure a spot. Not much wiggle room, if any for the Buccs….we’ll see.
