Joe’s got an update from One Buc Palace
UPDATE 2:55 p.m.: Cue the Mike Glennon Mob! There favorite son is back in the news — in big D.
ESPN Cowboys insider Ed Werder, via ProFootballTalk.com, is talking about the Cowboys discussing a trade for Josh McCown (currently the Browns’ problem) Glennon, or picking up Nick Foles.
No word on a potential price tag for Glennon, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Joe’s totally on board if the Bucs can somehow snatch a third-round draft pick.
Pounding those in the know at One Buc Palace this morning at One Buc Palace, Joe is confident stating the Glennon-ESPN buzz is pure smokescreeen, likely agent-driven and being used to pressure another team or player talking to Dallas.
At mid-afternoon, Werder Twittered that no one from the Cowboys has reached out to the Bucs to gauge Glennon’s availability.

Trade for Larel Collins. Could be long term guard or RT. Cowboys got him undrafted because of investigation. Bucs were very interested and need the line talent.

Id do it for a 3rd rounder or 4th and something else. Even though I like Glennon for our backup this year he’s gonna be gone after FA next year so picking up a 3rd rounder for a guy already leaving soon would be nice.

Ohhhh..I wouldn’t trade Glennon..too much of a risk of Jameis gets hurt..we just got rid of one of the backups yesterday..
A quality backup is priceless when your team is in synch..

I hope Mr. Glennon resigns to stay here in Tampa, that would be so incredibly funny to listen to the joes try to talk their way out of trying to get him traded. As he told Mr. Winston this is my first time having a Offense that I have two years in a row. Why would Mr. Glennon want to go to another team and learn another offense?

IMO opinion the answer to question 1 is No, at least not yet in his development. The answer to question 2 should be f@ck yeah if they trade Glennon away. I get the logic that some feel Glennon is a luxury the Bucs can’t afford especially seeing they have him locked up for only one more year, but that stems from not believing the Bucs have a realistic shot at the playoffs this season and/or a naive belief that JW3 can’t get hurt. If this team is in the hunt for a playoff berth this year (which I think isn’t out of the realm of possibility) and God forbid anything happens to Winston I know I feel a helluva lot better knowing Glennon can run a Koetter offense better than any other backup QB the Bucs could replace him with this year.

Why trade for a draft choice? We get a 3rd and then we draft another QB at 3rd in the next couple of years. You need to fill a current need if you trade him.

i am confused how anyone can label Mike Glennon a reliable backup when has only came in a game once. he started the rest of his appearances. 1 relief appearance hardly qualifies anyone has reliable or proven.
if winston goes down it’s not just his playmaking that will suffer the team will take a huge emotionally hit if winston goes down and although glennon maybe a functional back up and a nice guy Glennon does not inspire others to greatness nor will the tema have the same confidence. glennon will walk he is not going to resign in tampa it will not make sense for either party. so get something before he walks that is much better for team in the long term than some what if scenario.

i like griffin but have no idea if he is the answer.
i asked shaun king is thoughts on griffin and he was very adamant that griffin could be the guy. we will see soon. Sean Peyton sure was pissed off when bucs grabbed him that should say something.

Don’t take anything less than a second round pick. If we lose him to free agency after this year we may get a compensatory pick based on the salary he gets from his new team will determine whether that pick will be as high as a third rounder…

there will be NO compensatory pick that has been explained numerous times. Glennon will walk for free simple as that. the formula is not public but enough reverse engineering has been done to accurately predict picks. yes the salary he get’s next year will be a factor but the primary factor is playing time and glennon has not taken a game snap in a year and half which dramatically offsets any cash he may get.

Here we go again! Glennon is more valuable than a draft pick. If you can’t “fleece” someone for a 1st or 2nd there’s no point.
If he walks after this year, he walks. We don’t lose anything outside of an experienced back-up.

i would agree with you if bucs had a realistic chance to go deep in playoffs. therefore i believe a pick now or player is more valuable and important that hanging onto a backup you hope does not play and more than likely wont play. let the backup of future get reps so hes ready

@tmax- I feel you bro, I just don’t agree. We’re not losing anything and there’s always the “what if” scenario. I know it’s crazy to utter those two words but, play-offs?!
Think of it this way too. Jameis goes down for the year and Griffin has to start and poops himself and the Bucs go 6-10 again? I do not want to go through that again. You?
That’s just how I see it. Hey, I could be totally wrong but I just can’t envision getting more than a 4th for him. That doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy!!!

2 or 3 or no trade imo.
I think we likely get a 4th in compensatory selection if he signs a deal for like 8-10 mill per year which he likely would get considering what Chase Daniels got (7 mill to be a backup). Unless we buy a bunch of high priced FA but with us having good drafts & needing to retain our own in the following years I’d be surprised if we spent a ton.

If the Bucs think Griffin is a quality backup, Gennon will be traded. If they think Griffin is not, then Glennon won’t. We can second guess what they decide to do, but not how they feel about it. If Glennon’s traded, then Griffin is good enough in their eyes, if Glennon’s not traded, then Griffin is not good enough in their eyes. I doubt that they would trade Glennon and bring in another backup if they don’t like Griffin.

The Bucs are crazy if they think that they can get a mid-round pick for Glennon. The guy is a career backup, no one will trade for him. The Bucs wasted a 3rd round pick when they drafted him, just bite the bullet and move on ( like always).

As bad as how wants to see Glennon gone for reasons unknown other than maybe he’s afraid Glennon will take over Winstons job if at some point Winston struggles during the season, which from what I’ve been reading Winston hasn’t exactly had the best of camp. Glennon ain’t going anywhere.

If someone wants to trade a 3rd round pick in the 2017 draft for Glennon, I would probably take it. Otherwise we are better off keeping him this year and see how things play out.

@celly- The way I look at it is, if Glennon had never started those games would we be having this conversation? He has more value to the Bucs because he’s familiar with the system and has experience. Draft picks are unknown whether a 3rd or 4th. I would probably feel differently if not for our recent acquisitions.
For me, you’re trading a known commodity for an unknown commodity. Why roll the dice if you don’t have to?

relaist pointed out the cowboys could win with glennon and i stated they still have problems with a bad defensive coordinator. every time you bring up another failed assistant coach of dung’s the people come out of the wood work crying… that tomlin won a superbowl and he is a dungy guy which he is not. just heading off the delusional ones who give the overrated and undersiving of the hall of fame credit for everything. he had 4 good years in tampa and won 2 playoff games that is it…. dungy is barley the 3rd best coach in bucs history but gets a free pass like no other. it’s sad. this is also very sad week for the hall of fame putting in an unqualified coach dungy beccause of the media bias he receives is disgusting. dungy going innahead of flores is an embarrassment to the league.

i will be ranting and posting dungy led offense stats all week. It is total BS dungy is getting inducted in the hall of fame… it is a disgrace… so few of you long term fans remember how BAD dungy offenses and game day management was so I will be helpful and pointing out all the reminders of how bad it was . Dungy offenses were equally as bad as lovie’s defenses and yet do no wrong dungy. Glazer turned the team around when he bought it. Glazer set the standards high and dungy failed to meet those standards.

2 reasons why Dungy is going in:
1) Turned around a historically awful franchise and helped build one of the best defenses of all time.
2) First black head coach to win a Super Bowl.
I know a lot of people here in JBFland don’t think #2 should be acknowledged, but I think it’s ignorant to not recognize that it’s historical. It’s like leaving Jackie Robinson out of baseball history.

I’m not a big Glennon fan but he should be improving. I agree they should try to get him an extension for a few more years. They won’t find a better backup for Winston any time soon. A second round pick is worth the trade but not a 3 or 4 imo.

Yeah there is no way the Cowboys first choice is to trade for Mike Glennon. If you Buc fans think that please put yourself in Jerry Jones shoes. You want a backup and your not gonna call Nick Foles first? McCown is also a capable backup who could possibly be had for cheaper and with a better contract, i dont know?
All Im saying is that if the Cowboys are going to trade for Glennon its likely not their first choice………….I f Glennon is I say they are pretty dumb, and i like Glennon as a backup too.
