What’s Up With Jeff Tedford?
July 16th, 2016Joe likes to periodically check in to see what former key figures in Bucs history are up to.
So today, we look at what’s going on with former rumored offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford.
Tedford was hired by Lovie Smith to run an offense that was supposed to be cutting edge if not futuristic. Then again, Tedford was working with Stewart McClown. About the only thing any offense guided by McClown could cut is found in a toilet bowl.
But McClown lasted a whole lot longer than Tedford, who never coached a regular season for the Bucs. His preseason heart issue knocked him out in the 2014 preseason before he resigned. Word around One Buc Palace was that Tedford hid behind his illness and had thrown in the towel.
Then again, maybe Tedford realized who was at quarterback and didn’t want to sully his reputation and resumé..
Tedford immediately got a head coaching job in the CFL leading the BC Lions. That didn’t go well, either, as his Lions finished 7-11 and Tedford exercised an option in his contract and resigned in December.
So what now? Well, he’s back in the PAC-12 where he made his bones and is now a consultant for Chris Peterson at Washington. Peterson discussed Tedford’s role with the team at this week’s PAC-12 football Media Days gathering, types Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.
“Yeah, he can’t coach any of the players,” Peterson said of Tedford’s responsibilities. “He can be in all of our meetings. He can look at tape. We can talk to him. He can be in as many conversations in terms of all that type of stuff. What prompted it is he didn’t want to — he wanted to get back into college football, and there wasn’t an opportunity out there for him this year that he — making him a head coach or some other position like that, and he knows a lot of guys on our staff, and really that’s what this thing is all about is being around people you want to be around.
“So I think both sides wanted to be around each other, and he’s obviously a really good with a lot of knowledge and has done a lot of things, and so we feel real fortunate to get a guy like that to be able to be with us.
Per Jude, when Peterson was asked if he wanted to hire Tedford full-time, Peterson danced around the question.
Joe wishes Tedford luck. Tedford was always good to Joe and rather candid in conversations, which Joe appreciated. It is odd, however, that Tedford is now on his third job in as many years after resigning his previous two positions.

Not a key figure, not a key figure at all!

Wish I knew he was a flake two years ago. Then I wouldn’t have been so excited about his so called “mind”

Tedford the lightweight Lovie fakeout that became just out. He’d have been a flop here too. More than a heavy fog has been lifted from Bucsville.

Speed in space?

Lovie has a long history of destroying coordinators. Its like a disease. Besides infecting bucs fans and players i believe his cordinayor count was 16 in a 11 year career… l hope they find a cure. Seems like the only survivor is Riverboat Ron…

So what is it he does again??
July 16th, 2016 at 9:18 am
I knew he was a dud the moment the rumor leaked out. Spoke against the hire constantly. Wish I had been wrong.

I want to say something negative about the guy but I’m going to show restraint because anyone can have health issues pop up at anytime. But staying positive I think his absence was the #1 key to the team landing Jameis Winston the following season so even though it was a tough season to sit thru at the time, I’d like to thank him for that.

I was in favor of the hire as OC even though i thought Lovie was a horrible hire, surprised lovie didnt take him to illinois

He is a hero in my book!!! Anything to help get the classless incompetent one out of town!!!!! He was just one of the Three OC’s in coach my scheme’s 2 year regime!!!! Think about that, Three OC’s and 2 DC’s!!!!!!! And the sheep wanted to bring the incompetent one back for “stability”????? That is like saying coach my scheme was backstabbed when he backstabbed Coach Schiano to get the job in the first place!!!!!
lovie is like school on Sunday, NO CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blog is about Tedford and all you two guys can do is get that last tast of LOVIE’S BALLS, training camp in a little over a week, get up off your knees man, your sucking on a mirage !!

Big Hog, really? Lovie was/is a terrible HC, that couldnt spot talent, gameplan nor make adjustments, his “scheme” defense got lit up time and time again, most glaringly game 1 against mariotta, sooo glad there seems to be a professional football staff in place for this year, 7-9 is what im thinking and competitive, never felt that past 2 loser years, but glad he got us jameis because of his suckage as a HC

All summer we was chilling in my basement playing Madden coming up with our plan to build the super team with a futuristic offense and the Tampa 2.0 defense.

I, for one, would like to thank Jeff Tedford for doing his part to land Jameis Winston and Dirk Koetter. His whale fail set the Bucs up for a long run of success.
July 16th, 2016 at 11:29 am
My favorite was when Tedford and coach my scheme came up with the brilliant plan to hide the offense so they could “surprise some teams”!!! That is some Wile E. Coyote stuff right there!!!!!!!!!

Vomit …

Yes Dusty: you wanted LOVIE gone! News flash he gone! If and I said if he were here now you wouldn’t be calling for a 7 win season, playoffs would be what everyone would be clamering for, you got your wish, you got more talent, and a ALL WORLD COACHING STAFF, now go out and get nine (9) wins, I don’t care how you lose the other (7) games, training camp is the time to mold this year’s team! Coach K you remind me of Marvin Gay “LET’S GET IT ON”!

Technically two…Arroyo wasn’t a coordinator.

6-10. Playoffs next season.
July 16th, 2016 at 7:02 pm
One thing I agree with BigDog…anything less than a winning season this year after all the rebuilding and roster improvements SHOULD be considered a major disappointment. We should be battling for the division this year. A winning season with offensive continuity and so many key pieces in place now SHOULD be the goal this year if not playoffs. Time we get out of this loser mentality.
July 16th, 2016 at 7:37 pm
I bet if the Bucs start losing this upcoming season, Buc Realist and tmaxcon will find a nexus between us losing and Lovie Smith. Pretty sad guys.
July 16th, 2016 at 7:56 pm
I have made my views on The first year Head Coach, New Defensive scheme, very young core of players and the fact they have to coach the “lovie” out of the rest of the roster!!! If you think they are just going to take the division, then you might be disappointed!!!!!
July 16th, 2016 at 8:12 pm
Not having Tedford allowed the Bucs to be so awful they got Winston, so thank you.
July 16th, 2016 at 9:51 pm
Tedford looks like he likes fava beans.
July 16th, 2016 at 10:19 pm
College ball is a small step down from CFL ball, or it could be the other way around with the top college teams besting CFL talent. I was upbeat from all of the Tedford hype when he was first announced as the incoming Bucs OC. He is gone so we will never know how good he could have been. It did seem he had second thoughts possibly after reviewing the Bucs overall. The stated illness may have been legit. I wish him good luck also.
July 17th, 2016 at 12:07 am
He did such an outstanding job hiding the offensive scheme. The entire offensive staff nor the head coach were ever able to find it after he had his ailment
July 17th, 2016 at 1:42 am
MJ that nexus is already in place: they gotta coach the LOVIE out of them or Coach K is a rookie head coach, you got Mike Smith to hold Coach K’s hand, and the rest of this ALL WORLD STAFF to coach the LOVIE out of them, o yea and your “new scheme” will root out the ones that had “LOVIE” in them from the lackadaisical talent, the creme will rise to the top, and those who couldn’t jump a slant rout will fall from grace!…….but I’m confident that if the season doesn’t start well, anotherj scapegoat they will find!
July 17th, 2016 at 8:36 am
Scared to run with the big dogs, better to stay in the minors. Lol what a coward and a joke of a coach. How do u burn your team like that right before the season starts?? That’s pretty cold. I have no respect for him if what was said is true in that he was healthy but decided he didnt want to return. But Thx to him we have a REAL OC now, wich has become our HC so we prob wouldnt have gotten Koetter had it not been for the ghost of Tedford.
