Joe is confident those who believe in the Tooth Fairy, unicorns and the Easter Bunny have a lot in common with the rapidly growing Kenny Bell Mob.
Seeing is not believing for these folks. At the least Mike Glennon Mob was grounded in data. Rookie Glennon threw 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his rookie year.
Kenny Bell? Last year’s Bucs fifth-round pick was an underwear football star receiver. Rookie Bell tore up the spring like Joe takes on a Chinese food buffet after 13 minutes on a treadmill.
But underwear football is pretend. And when it came to football with pads on, Bell did nothing. Therefore, the thought of Bell as the Bucs’ No. 3 receiver has Joe turning to hard liquor and barf bags. It’s just hard to stomach, and it’s even worse will all kinds of Bucs media leading the Bell parade.
Last week, Bell was coaching youth football campers in Nebraska, where he is a heralded Cornhuskers star, in part because so few standout receivers have played there.
In the TV video below, Bell delivers some real talk, humbly explaining that he is an NFL nobody.
Joe wishes great things for Bell, but Joe wishes harder that Louis Murphy learned all the tricks he could while training with Adrian Peterson.

Nobody denies that Bell hasn’t proven anything yet, but he’s talented and has speed. I also love his attitude. So call me part of the mob. I expect him to be a productive player for us. The coaches and front office apparently do too. I see no reason to be so skeptical of him, as Joe does… but, of course, he has to do it on the field in games and we haven’t seen that yet. Just like a lot of the Bucs roster, he’s a young player with something to prove.

We have four deep threats with decent hands that can keep defenses honest: Bell, Murphy, Spencer, and Streeter. Murphy has the experience, also, to replace VJAX if he gets hurt again. We need Bell to produce this year. Since he likes to block there is a physical side to him as well. He needs to bulk up his frame more to enable him to beat jams at the line of scrimmage and he could be much improved. Remember it took some years for Stocker to develop too and his blocking has guaranteed him a place on this team. I look to our new WR Coach to make a big difference with all our WRs this year.

Streeter? There’s no Streeter on the roster. Perhaps you mean Reedy? Of those 4, assuming you meant Reedy, maybe 2 make the club… And Spencer isn’t really known for speed, AFAIK. Also, we have no idea if Murphy will have the same burst after returning from knee surgery.

Less verbalization and more implementation Mr. Bell. This is not college anymore. You’re in with the big boys and must prove durability and availability. Great kid, I like him. But not every speedster can transition to the NFL. This training camp is very big for him.

Streeter was a training camp standout last season and was cut. Dont knkw why he wanst retained as he looked good in pads and contact from what I remember. Last year we lost murphy and vjax. Hopefully at least one of them will stay off IR, IF SO that will be a huge plus. There are a lot of recieving options and being this offense will proba ly have a ton of passes drawn up for the te and rb position I think its a little premature to be concerned with our wr depth. This offense in its second year will be just fine, im much more concerned and ancious to see how our defense performs

Louis Murphy, fresh off a torn ACL, has caught 87 passes for just under 1200 yards and 4 TDs in the last 5 years. (2011-2015)
Anquan Boldin caught 101 passes for just over 1400 yards and 8 TD in 19 games on his way to the Super Bowl in 2013. He’s caught 145 passes in two years since.
Good players win football games. If Louis Murphy is your #3 you’ve got a problem.

I don’t think he’s had anything to say except when he’s been asked. And, if you keep up with the stories on him, this guy went above and beyond in contributing to the team however he could while on IR. You can’t blame a guy for getting injured.

I don’t think the 3rd WR is very important for Koetter and this offense. If we need Kenny Bell to be a huge factor we are in trouble.
Of course Evans has a huge effect on our game plan…..aside from Evans we need Jackson to stay healthy. We also need ASJ to make plays reliably. Sims is also much more important then any 3rd reciever we have.
This offense seems to be designed around proven playmakers and fortunately we have some good ones to choose from. An unproven 3rd reciever won’t make or break us. I don’t expect Bell to be the hot read very much this year…..and if his is I hope it’s not because our other weapons aren’t getting the job done.

No love for Kenny, no hate for Kenny, no history with Kenny . He had one preseason and when in pads last year he didn’t make a mark. He was a 5th round draft pick. If he was as good as the Kenny Bell mob thinks, he would have gone earlier. Here’s hoping he can buck the odds but he was beat out last year by Donte Dye and Humphries. Bell said it himself that the Bucs gave him a break by putting him on IR. Right now he has a long road ahead of him to prove he belongs. I wish him the best of luck.

There is no Kenny Bell mob. There are just people that want to see him get a chance to compete.
Joe, you talk like he had plenty of chances in the preseason last year. He didn’t. He was injured and placed on IR.
Personally, I wanted him to come here to be a kick/punt returner and I still don’t see why a WR with a good history of it has not been taken seriously for it.
We keep searching for a returner and there is one right there on the team, not being given a chance to prove it.
As far as the WR position, he does have a lot to prove, but I don’t understand how you can want a guy in Murphy to succeed over Bell. Murphy will NEVER be great. He’s had plenty of chances to prove himself to be average at best…and usually less than average.
Bell is untested. He has to earn his props. But you people talk like you don’t even want him to have a shot.

Yeah Bonsai of course Koetter uses his third reciever. But when they go for big plays it’s not to the third reciever. The other guys I mentioned are the guys Winston targets in the Redzone mainly and are targeted down the field.
The third reciever is a complimentary in this system. Just a role player

I just like to see 5th rounders succeed. I get more excited to see low round picks and UDFAs succeed because teams that find and develop those guys are most likely going to compete every year. And they’re not going to have to scour the waiver wire for other teams’ castoffs and journeyman type players. Build the team from the top down and bottom up. Bell is exciting because he’s got speed, his Nebraska highlights are exciting, and the guy has a great attitude and a relationship with Jameis. I want to see the guy get every chance he can to develop. If this were Joe’s team, he’d put developmental players out on the street and fill the roster with over the hill turds like Gruden did. We’d never see Cam Brate or Adam Humphries in a Bucs uniform if Joe were GM.

I wonder sometimes what “interesting” is defined as in Joes dictionary. Maybe having double/triple digets in the H column.
Mr. Kenny Bell has not yet shown he has made it to the NFL, IR got him a redshirt year in the NFL. Now Mr. Bell should come out and preform well or begin preparing for the next chapter in his life. He looks very good on his collage film, but has yet to make a catch in the NFL. I hope he does have a succesful career here in Tampa. I also agree “let the freak flag fly” he has great hair.

BuccaneerBonzai, when I say he was beat out by those guys, I am referring to
the fact he was lost for the year from a pulled hammy. Hardly a injury that keeps you out for the season. Bell did a interview a while back and suggested they put him on IR instead of cutting him, and he was very greatful. Don’t get me wrong, he is a great kid and I hope he turns into a great 3rd WR or kick returner, but he is not in the same category as ASJ who is loaded with talent that he hasn’t lived up to yet. Kenny was a late round draft pick for a reason and the odds are stacked against him. For this one, I have to say, I am in Joe’s camp here. I am not sure he has shown enough to inspire all the expectations we fans are putting on him.

I don’t understand why Joe hates on this dude so bad. U would think he’s been around for 4 yrs now and hasn’t done anything. He got injured in preseason for crying out o9ud! Give him a shot before u shoot him down. Especially when the bucs are betting on him to be our deep threat this year. U really wonder why the bucs didn’t go and get a burner this offseason?? Take a guess. Bucs fans see the potential in this kid and so does Jameis!! That’s why we support him. Get with the program Joe!

I base my opinion on KB based off of what I saw him do in college. He was unstoppable at Nebraska at WR and on special teams. He caught a bad break last year. In hindsight that could’ve been the best possible outcome. He got to learn how to be a pro for an entire year. That can be nothing but positive. KB and Louis Murphy will have a great battle to see who gets the #3 WR spot. I do believe Louis will win that battle. KB will be a great #4 and occasional slot guy. I wish him luck and for our sakes hopes he comes out and kills it.
