Playoffs?
June 30th, 2016Playoffs? Playoffs?
Yes, playoffs. Playoffs talk was the rage last night during “Late Hits,” co-hosted by Howard Balzer and Gil Brandt heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
And the Bucs were right in the thick of the talk.
The duo decided to do a poll: What team with a first-year head coach will make the playoffs? they asked their listening audience. And America nearly chose the Bucs.
The Giants won the unscientific poll, with the Bucs right behind.
Of the 40 calls Balzer and Brandt fielded in their four-hour show, the Bucs were two votes behind the Giants, the favorite team with a first-year head coach to make the postseason.
Balzer was kind enough to e-mail Joe the full voting results.
Giants 11
Bucs 9
Dolphins 8
Titans 5
Browns 3
Eagles 2
49ers 2
As Balzer noted, three of the top four teams in the poll (Giants, Bucs and Titans) have coaches hired from within. They were on staff for their respective team’s previous administration.
Not only are Bucs fans starting to feel a wave of excitement for the upcoming new season, it seems America is sensing something brewing with the Bucs as well.

I love it! Maybe we’ll get some respect.
Assuming this isn’t one of those “paper” things.

We can do all things through Jameis Winston. #Rejoicing

Except Dolphin Miko fans, no kind words for her. Playoffs? That’s a stretch outside logical thinking I think. The cart a bit ahead of the horse as the hype is being whipped. I’ll be elated if our horses finish near the lead pack at the finish line.

Provided there are no major injuries and the defense plays better, there is no reason not to believe that the Bucs can reach the playoffs.

If they can go atleast 2-3 before the bye week i see no reason why this team cannot grow together and make a late season run.

This poll is about first year Head Coaches and their chances of reaching the playoffs. This poll isn’t saying much, the other 25 teams has the same staff, same system from 2015 ( most of them much longer tenure).

@Lakeland. It’s not necessarily too big of a deal but it’s certainly better than the lowly expectations of Chip Kelly’s 9ers. In a galaxy not very far away and a time not very long ago troves of us Bucs fans were down on our luck when Chip spawned the Bucs eventually for the Eagles gig. A couple years later it looked worse as Chippy’s offense was virtually unstoppable. That was, until, the NFL studied it and dominated it. Now, Chip was lucky to land a job with a bad team and we were lucky enough to keep the best offensive coach we’ve probably ever had. There is indeed reason for optimism. Now, we will see how long it equates to wins.

@Bucfanman:
Those are pretty heavy contingencies…

Every year at least 1 or 2 teams makes a MAJOR jump and goes from a bottom dweller to good team – or decent team to a great team (Carolina last year – good example).
Why not the Bucs? Why not this year?
Anything is possible with Winston at QB. Just ask any FSU fan.
I predict 3-4 dramatic come from behind and/or last second victories for the Bucs in 2016 – orchestrated and executed of course by #3. And some against good teams. As a result the Bucs are going to have a better record than many assume. And may well be in the thick of the playoff race come December.
This team is undoubtedly better than last year on paper at some key positions (DE & CB) thanks to Licht’s drafting and FA acquisitions (Grimes, Ayers, VH3 & Noah Spence). Factor in the coaching and defensive scheme upgrades, along with the continued development of all the talented young “vet” players like Winston, D. Smith, Marpet, Kwon, Evans, Sims, ASJ, Brate, Humphries, Bell, Jac Smith, Gholston, Akeem Spence, Banks, McDougald….
Yea – I think we are going to make some noise this year.
Chits about to get fun!
But for now – we wait – and wait – and wait… July is the longest and most frustrating month of the year for NFL fans.

@Tom- Optimistic for sure! The reality is that it is a pretty steep hill to climb. I’m going “glass half-full” on this one.
June 30th, 2016 at 2:14 pm
@Tom,
The injuries part is unpredictable but our defense better play better. It’s really not much of a dart throw to believe we have to be better with VH3, Grimes, Spence and Ayers.

Yeah and the Glazers need to make a million dollar donation to the Professional Referees Retirement Fund.

Joe, how did you disguise your voice when you called in on those nine different lines to vote?

You know it’s June, right? You could make your reply about literally anything Joe posts until September. I get it, but, what exactly do you expect?
It’s. June.

L&WDunn..Man….Its hard not to comment on a lot of the nonsense posted on this site. I cut my postings down considerably because all of this stuff is just yak yak. I’m a pragmatic type guy. I believe in things that work..that produce. I’m just not buying into all of this fake hype. I will believe only the final results. You are what your record says you are. Until you improve that record, Its all Nostradamus crap. No excuses. The schedule is tough? 31 other teams think the same thing. I..don’t wanna hear how rough the ocean is..Bring the GD ship in with the trophy! Ohhh..and GO BUCS!
June 30th, 2016 at 5:59 pm
Well….I guess this settles it…the Giants squeeze us out for the last playoff slot…..better luck in 2017…..

If that is the case it’s still a better result than anything Lovie could have done. If that’s the case I think everyone except #3 would be pretty happy.
