GMC And PFF

June 27th, 2016
The PFF tribe has spoken.

The PFF tribe has spoken.

Yes, BSPN made a big splash locally last week when Vaughn McClure claimed Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is a big loaf and lacks a work ethic.

It was a scandalous claim. But the PFF tribe has had time to weigh the accusation and spreadsheeter Gordon McGuinness has rendered a verdict. McGuinness believes there may just be a kernel of truth to what McClure claims — just outside the areas in which the loud pack of GMC haters scream about when they regularly throw rocks at GMC.

McGuinness claims GMC’s overall game dropped last year. (Joe assumes the fact GMC played hurt most of the season didn’t appear on the spreadsheet.) However, McGuinness also states GMC’s pass rushing skills were superb.

His 2015 season was disappointing, seeing him finish the year with the lowest single-season grade of his career. He had the eighth-lowest run-defense grade of all defensive tackles last season, after grading positively in that regard in all four of the seasons between 2011 and 2014. Despite that, he still had an impressive year as a pass-rusher, racking up nine sacks, eight hits, and 24 hurries, giving him the 12th-highest pass-rushing productivity mark among defensive tackles with at least 136 pass-rushing snaps in 2015. Our pass-rushing productivity signature stat measures pressure created on a per-snap basis, with weighting towards sacks and hits, giving a clearer indication of production than sacks alone.

What are the GMC haters to do? They always b!tch he doesn’t get pressure on the quarterback, yet the stat nerds claim to have evidence to the contrary, not to mention standard NFL stats do as well.

With a healthy Jacquies Smith and the additions of Robert Ayers and Noah Spence, the Bucs should have an improved edge rush, maybe dramatically so. If that is the case, watch GMC blow up.

As for the nasty accusation bashing GMC’s work ethic, Joe has a strong hunch that was a plant from the agent of a certain B1G coach now living in the middle of the Illinois cornfields.

“What is a hater to do?” There has always been evidence that he is one of the games best DT’s. The haters are just to ignorant to look at the stats or refuse to, one or the other. A REAL (BUCS) football fan can see that. Unfortunately most of the haterz will never pull their head out of there’s @$$E$ and realize that. I look forward to this year in seeing how he goes ham with sum help around him finally. If Jac Smith can stay healthy, the haterz better look out.

  2. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Well said Joe, let them haterz hear the truth.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

He’s fragile and enjoys losing. He will be on IR by week 7 yet will get a waiver to play in the popularity contest aks the pro bowl…Mr softee has to get his TV time…

    Joe

I thought loser lovie had impeccable character why would he plant information about GMC.

  4. drdneast Says:

You still have zero reading comprehension skills tmaxcon. Are you illiterate, stupid or both? My money is on the latter.
Joe plainly wrote he thought it was Lovie’s “agent” who was the unnamed source.
Go slither back to that rock you came out from under hater.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Well Lovie’s agent did not hear it from Twitty bird retard….

  6. Harry Says:

Why would one plant bad info on GMC?

Because it can’t be coach-my-scheme’s fault, right? And he is likely a bit bitter, so gotta blame someone not named Mike Jenkins. So blame it on a lazy superstar on the line and piss poor cornerbacks you inherit. Simple as that…

  7. Harry Says:

I still don’t get why people have to be nasty to each other in here

  8. tmaxcon Says:

Lovie failed. Lovie proved he was a POS person as well as a POS coach. Sooner you accept that the sooner the healing will begin….

  9. DallasBuc Says:

Calling people, especially groups of people, “haters” is lazy and juvenile.

Nothing new here, as long as the Buccaneers are the “laughingstock” of the league, fingers will be pointed.

GMC has great production when he is out there, and by all accounts he is a very nice person. I just wish having him on our team would translate into more wins. The man is 28 this year, and his window may start to be closing.

For the first time since Schiano traded for Revis, I am excited to be a Buc Fan.

Lovie was a nice guy too, but he completely lacked fire. I am pumped to have Koetter behind the steering wheel, and Mike Smith as his right hand man. Those two guys have gone to the playoffs with the Jaguars and Falcons previously. I am hopeful they will get things turned around.

In the mean time, we should expect to see more pieces and finger pointing as an attempt to decipher the how/why our favorite team sucks.

We need to get out of last place in the NFC South, 5 years an running.

You gotta make up your mind Joe, do you buy into these stats or not!? The flip flopping when it suits your cause drives me nuts!

Because AGENTS are incapable of their own original thoughts, right?

Must be hard for the agent, having to repeat everything ALL OF HIS CLIENTS say.

  15. Buc 4ever Says:

GMC doesn’t mind loosing and that must change. Our best player on defense have to have the will to win. We need to offer the Jets a high draft pick for Mo Wilkerson, we have the cap space to sign him. Maybe that will light a fire under GMC and then we will have two beast in the middle, which both Denver and Carolina proved to be the secret of success.

Seriously? YOU are saying something is juvenile?

I remember when you first arrived here. You were positive, polite, respectful. Since those days, you’ve become just what Joe calls a “hater”.

Hater: a person that constantly finds negatives in a person, group of persons, organization or situation.

How about pulling up your last 20 comments to see if you fit the bill?

  17. Joe Says:

To CYA. To offer an excuse as to why his defense didn’t succeed. The info may not have directly come from Lovie, but as Joe suggested, from Lovie’s agent, who is good at planting stories with the Bristol Bunch. Same guy that was pushing the narrative about an alleged palace coup.

  18. DallasBuc Says:

Lazy and juvenile. I think that also perfectly describes the contributions made by Bonzai.
I seem to recall being dismissed as a “hater” by Bonzai and most others for warning that Lovie Smith was making horrible decisions and pointing out his rank incompetence. Was I a “hater” or someone that can see things for what they are and has high expectations.
    Lazy and juvenile.

4-12, 7-9, 4-12, 2-14, 6-10, are the only NUMBERS that matters to me. I don’t care about the PRESSURES, or the SACKS, the INTS. The TOP 5 offense, the 4,000 yards passing, the 2,000 yards rushing, the Pro -bowl players, the All-Pro players. Where I’m from the ONLY stat that matters is in the WIN column. That’s why this team ( THE YUCS) get’s no respect from the rest of the league. ( They don’t win and they STINKS as a team). The fans SHOULD be tired of the STENCH, it’s embarrassing ( for the players as well as for the fans). I have NO love for any of the players, I have love for my HOMETOWN team. If I wasn’t from Lakeland I wouldn’t even be on this BLOG discussing the YUCS.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Well, Dallas, I had a good post for you, but it didn’t go thru the filters.

  22. Mojiska Says:

Guys- I made a post yesterday breaking down his numbers vs SUH & sapp on a per game basis. All in all he was very similar in nearly every category. The big descrepency was with sapps fumbles per game and SUH’S monetary compensation (SUH makes 10 MIL guaranteed more and 1 less contract year). I also pointed out that since GMC has played for the bucs, the win percent is 38% when he plays, and 25% when he is out. That’s 13% or roughly 2 games a year. Is someone that is proven to help you win 2 more games a year worth 12 million? I ask starting to see the guys that don’t like him simply people that don’t like nice people. That’s fine, but he is in no way shape or form a detriment to the team. Heck teams put up with guys like talib for the same reason, to help them win games.

  23. Couch Fan Says:

And if he doesnt blow up? Will it still be all the players around him? Will you continue to make excuse after excuse for him? Or will you finally lay the blame at his feet? Through out all the regimes since Chucky, GMC is the common denominator in them all. Just a coincidence? Maybe.., Maybe not.

  24. Loggedontosay Says:

JJ played hurt. I watched every game in 2015 as I do every year. I did not see the pressure on the quarterback. I did see GMC being thrown to the ground by offensive lineman several times. I do not hate GMC, but I do not see on the field a superb player. I hope GMC gets 25 sacks. He does not need that many sacks for me to admit he is playing at an elite level. The Bucs were looser for how many years when Leroy Selmon played? Selmon made plays. If GMC had made some plays, like the sack he made in the Atlanta game, the Bucs would have been above .500. But, he was to hurt. When GMC was not in the game, I did not see any difference.

Hard for Joe to blame GMC for the Bucs losing ways when the Bucs have had a worse record with Lavonte David on the field.

(See how dumb it is to blame one good player for a team’s losing ways?)

  27. DRFEELGOOD Says:

I’ll chime in, and likely be attacked, but GMC is the least of our issues. He hates losses just as much as anyone, but has the dignity to be gracious in defeat. Someone recently referenced Reggie White in a GMC comparison. He is NOT Reggie White, nor is anyone else, including our beloved Sapp, but Reggie was ALWAYS gracious in defeat. GMC could be a d%ck and call out losers on the DL that suck and blame them, but he NEVER does!! If the new supporting cast is “as advertised”, GMC is about to make all of the doubters shut their pie holes, just like all of last year’s Jameis “haters” have vanished like the cowards that they are. GMC is a blessing, and Buc fans need to start realizing that HE is not a hole that needs to be filled. Please wake up! As far as people Jameis was referencing in his post game press conference after the Carolina loss, GMC was not one of them. I was told that directly from a VERY high ranking Bucs official, whom I am close friends with. If he stays healthy this year, which I admit has been a concern, he will have his best year of his career. Go GMC and GO BUCS!!!

  28. Loggedontosay Says:

The Bucs have a worse record because GMC got lazier Joe.

dooshlarue , I bleed Dreadnaughts, we were NOTHING until Coach Bill Castle was hired as Head Coach in 1977 after Coach Paul Quinn left and went to Bartow High. I will give Coach Quinn credit for bringing Coach Castle with him to Lakeland from Lake City. Coach Chamberlain and Coach Green came with him too. Coach Castle installed that winning mentality, his favorite saying was ( second to none). Coach Castle is a living legend in Florida, and he’s still coaching, and still winning.

  30. bringbucsback Says:

Throughout all of this recent talk about GMC, I continue to think back to his low sack total his senior year in college. Maybe that’s what he is; a disrupter and not a big play guy?!? It sounds strange to even say it; it doesn’t jive. Does he really face that many double teams? I’m sure we all wish him well and we all also expected more production.

  31. NashvilleBuc Says:

Wouldn’t be a full week without another GMC troll battle. YAWN.

  32. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Ya u guys are right GMC is the main reason the Bucs have had losing records. LVD as well right? There that terrible and the rest of the team is that good. Maybe it had sum thing to do with the whole team being terrible all the way up to the coaches. Naaa couldnt be that tho. Lol god u ppl sound like idiots. Do sum of u actually read what you are posting??

  33. PRBucFan Says:

GMC was disappointing to say the least last year.

More then any other year since I’ve watched him I’ve seen pressure off the edge be eluded up the middle, cause of the lack of his presence.

I’ve always liked the guy but he had a terrible demeanor last season.

And at some point it’s “so what?” When the response is “he was injured”.

You can only hear the same response so often before it’s no longer an acceptable excuse.

  34. PRBucFan Says:

And atleast in regards to my post I’m not talking about the team performance or whether or not you wanna blame him for them lol.

I’m purely speaking about how my opinion on his performance.

You can disagree that’s fine. To each his own.
