Spence Is Big On Research

Prides himself on homework.
Like any other highly-drafted rookie, things are moving at warp speed for defensive end Noah Spence.
There’s a lot on Spence’s plate these days.
First, he had to find a new home, unless he’s comfortably living out of the hotel where the Bucs house rookies. Then, he’s getting used to a new town, learning his new teammates and, of course, new defense.
It seems, however, Spence is both relying on himself and his new teammates. So far, so good, Spence said last week. Joe asked Spencer whether he was clinging to a particular veteran/mentor.
“Honestly, all of the vets in the D-line room – we’re all like a family,” Spence said. “It feels like home to be in there with those guys, so there’s not one particular [person as a counselor], just everybody gives me little points and I take something away from everybody.”
Spence isn’t satisified with just that. He prides himself on research. Spence studies film of just about any halfway decent pass rusher, both current players and players of the past. He said his favorite guy to study is Justin Houston of the Chiefs. Spence added he searches players of the past on YouTube to find an edge he can use.
Joe has first-hand knowledge that Spence’s homework habits have spread throughout One Buc Palace.
“I don’t know the playbook all like that yet,” Spence confessed. “But when it comes to pass rushing I think I’m pretty good.”
Joe is sort of geeked to hear how much Spence likes to study film. Lavonte David has that trait, and we all know what a film junkie America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is.
Joe asked Spence if he had a chance to talk to Simeon Rice or Warren Sapp. He has not, but Spence admitted he was really bummed when Sapp was at One Buc Palace a couple of weeks ago and Spence missed a chance to talk to him.
Spence said that is one of his near-future goals, to pick Sapp’s brain when he returns.

When your best players are your hardest workers… that’s when you know you have a good team in place.
Like Winston, the sky is the limit for this kid. He has all the tools to be a terror coming off the edge. And unlike most DE’s he has a Complete set of weapons to work with, he has got down all the pass rushing moves and doesn’t just live off one or two to get him by. And as his career progresses he will be able to master those moves as well.
And the one guy that sticks out to me as far as a veteren leader & mentor would have to be Robert Ayers. Yes I know he hasn’t been that succesful of a player until recently but I like what I’ve heard from him so far and the knowledge that he spits out. Just by listening to him you can tell he is a smart football player that study’s the game and knows how to be succesful in this league.

I don’t understand why the bucs haven’t pursued him, he would be a great mentor and teacher for guys like Jac Smith and Spence. Not to mention adding 8 or 9 sacks for ya as well. And he would come fairly cheap as well. Last I heard ATL brung him for a visit, but passed on him, now I think Cincy is close to inking him.

This guy has me so hyped, I know Joe says temper the expectations, but just something about his quiet demeanor, approach and hunger. My only concern on this defense is safety, but maybe I get surprised by Ryan Smith and turns out to be the clean version of Tanard Jackson

Temper our expectations why??? Some of us can clearly see the talent on this team now. Its take off time,all this “I’ve been hyped before only to be let down again and again”. Should’ve been too hyped years prior,we didn’t have a QB. Got youngest baddest one in the league now. Watch this rise right before your eyes. My confidence in this team is mainly based off what I know JW is about to become. Add in young thunder cats like Kwon,Spawn,ME,VH3,Mongo,Donavan to mention a few what do you get. Unlimited Potential like E told y’all the other day. Be slow to the realization of your team all you want. I’ll remain busy trying to figure out my new Superbowl Sunday outfit.

Spence will be one of the top steals in this draft class. He will be in this league a long time if he stays healthy.

So glad Tampa picked this kid. For awhile I’ve been trying to figure out, who he reminds of. He’s not as fast as Von Miller and not as violent as Khalil Mack. Took awhile but his build, his get off, bend around the edge but not really all that stout against the run…Pat Swilling, anyone?

Yes the bucs have a lot of talent , but every other team in the league is optimistic this time of year also. Everyone’s team has improved and I think what puts a team over is the extra hard work and knowledge of the system in place. That is why I think the Defense is learning a new system , so it might take a couple of years. We are heading in right direction , but we still have a little ways to go to be a contender I believe.

@realist….the complete opposite….sounds like all the vets are helping him adjust to his role….its not just one guy saying, “look follow me, this is how we do things around here”….I wouldn’t follow anyone on the bucs roster that said that because they haven’t won anything….obviously he’s taking a page out of jameis’ and kwon’s book….rookies can be leaders too….just ball and teammates will follow….GO BUCS!!!!

I must say, I don’t know you yet, but I’ve read the last few threads and said a few words here and there. Anyway, seems to me you might need to look into changing your name.

Seems to me you have a problem with him receiving information from everyone, criticizing them for lack of leadership. When in reality this is an ability/trait that is positive, for him to go in and understand he needs to gather as much information as possible. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. You’re looking at this the wrong way bro, it’s not the lack there of, it’s the understanding of what it takes to be great.
Hopefully, sometime soon I can see you live up to your name.
