Joe can understand why Bucs fans don’t like certain players.
Fans seem to have built a hatred of tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Sure, he brings a lot of it on himself with childish stunts on the field and daring fans to come after him on Twitter. That’s just not smart.
Joe can sense frustration with Mike Evans. Drops are not cool and barking at officials and always whining for flags when one quits on a route is not the work of a professional. Joe gets that.
But when it comes to the rancor over Gerald McCoy, well, Joe really doesn’t understand that.
Joe doesn’t think it is a stretch to suggest GMC is a top-five defensive tackle in a 43 scheme. Is he Warren Sapp or J.J. Watt? Hell, no. Never will be. When did that become a sin?
Joe decided to do a wee bit of research. Joe looked up Sapp’s numbers when the Bucs won the Super Bowl, one of the greatest defensive seasons in NFL history. That regular season, Sapp had 7.5 sacks and 40 tackles. Sapp played in all 16 games.
Last year, GMC had 8.5 sacks and 28 tackles playing in 13 games and most of the year was playing hurt. One reason why the tackles were down was partially because most sober offensive coordinators weren’t dumb enough to run at him with the likes of the immortals Howard Jones and sackless Houseplant Johnson on the edges.
Nor did GMC have the luxury of playing next to Booger McFarland and Simeon Rice.
Is Joe suggesting GMC is Sapp? Of course not! What Joe is suggesting is the hate is so, so, so unwarranted.
Joe really believesthose who want to run GMC really would prefer Da’Quan Bowers at defensive tackle. That’s what that tells Joe.

Ha! I don’t get it either. McCoy is dominant. But he’s also alone. 8.5 sacks for a DT that’s playing by himself? Those are awesome numbers. Seriously awesome.
I’m resigned to McCoy haters being mo-rons. There’s nothing we can do about it. There are stupid people in the world. It’s no ones fault. Someone has the be ‘the stupid guy’ McCoy haters just seem to have coalesced into a single spot. Which is cool. Cause we can identify who they are and stop guessing.

Is The Buc Realist suggesting MG8 is JW3? Of course not! What The Buc Realist is suggesting is the hate is so, so, so unwarranted!!
The Buc Realist really believes that those who want to run MG8 really would prefer Ryan Griffin at QB when JW3 gets hurt!! That’s what that tells The Buc Realist!!!
Far to long we have had nothing at QB, now the Bucs have a chance to resign MG8 and the Bucs will have one of the best QB rosters in the league!!! But some want to throw that away for a ham sandwich!!!! SMDH!!!!!

Some fans aren’t satisfied to be rid of Dominick, Schiano & Lovie…….GMC assumed a leadership role through those losing times and because of that fans associate him with the losing.
I don’t think GMC is the problem….it’s just that he wasn’t the solution either.
Wins some games and the “hate” will go away….
As for ASJ & Evans…..Joe has constantly referred to ASJ with “hot tub” comments….and Evans as K-Y hands…..its no wonder they have their share of detractors.
I doubt “sackless, houseplant” Johnson will ever be able to overcome things enough to get on the positive side of fans. It would really help him to get a sack….thus losing the “sackless” tag.

@Realist-
The “realist” in you should know the likelihood of Glennon resigning with the Bucs is around zero as long as there’s a chance he could be a starter elsewhere. The only reason I want to trade him is just to get something for him before he walks away for nothing… I doubt the compensatory pick would be a 3rd rounder, and that wouldn’t come for another year. Get something now if we can.

There is nothing bad about Sapp mentoring GMC, I appreciate GMC’s respect for Sapp. I also appreciate GMC’s acceptance of how bad he was last year, something that you fanatics won’t accept.
Remember, I have said that GMC will end up being a nice, middle-of-the-road NFL DT. He will earn his starting position and be there for a while. I have always correctly argued that he was not close to the player that Suh is and not worthy of the number 3 overall and 50+ million. It was you sheep that started off the arguing with me that McCoy was better than Suh (because that was what the org spun after the 2010 draft) until about week 3 when it was obvious that I was correct and you shifted the argument to “it takes D Linemen years to mature in the NFL.”
McCoy is doing some things better, I expect to see some improvement; assuming he can shake the injury-bug.”

Joe, I agree with your take that GMC is the real deal, but I’d bet that GMC faced more pass plays in 13 games last season than Sapp did in 16 in 2002, and that Sapp faced more running plays back then. I’d also bet that our 2002 Defense forced more punts and 3 and outs, and forced a lot more turnovers, therefore, less total plays.

Again it’s not all about #’s it’s about how you effect the game and GMC goes plays, heck games without making a play that means anything. No one wants to trade him, but please tell me what has he done to make this team better? The only winning season we have had while he was on the team he was hurt and not playing. Coincidence?

Couldn’t agree more Bucsfanman. My guess is that 31 other NFL teams would love to have GMC on their DLine. Gerald’s main problem isn’t his injuries … he’s held up very well for being in the trenches for 6 years. Started at least 13 games in 5 of those 6 seasons; that’s excellent for a DLineman. GMC has unfortunately anchored 5 straight losing teams starting in 2011, and anchored them as a team captain. Plus we’ve all seen so many articles over those years about how our DLine isn’t ‘getting it done’ when it comes to pressuring the QB, etc. Fans just don’t like losing (neither do players I’m sure) and need someone to blame.

Don’t think that’s quite accurate ndog. GMC’s first year was 2010 when we went 10-6 (our last winning season). He played in 13 games that year and was hurt towards the end of the season. The next year (2011) he was hurt early-on and only played in 6 games. Bucs went 4-12 that year and Raheem went bye-bye. Since the 2011 season GMC has started an average of 15 games a season. Not too shabby in my book.

GMC is a beast. All the stat chasers will find a way to complain about him because he’s been the biggest name on a losing team. He smiles too much. He helps opponents up. He hasn’t hit 10 sacks. Blah. Blah. Blah. Guy is a beast and should be respected by Bucs fans, like he is by his opponents.
ASJ can do whatever he wants on his Twitter as long as he can find a way to stay healthy and get open.
Mike Evans still has a lot of room to grow to be a consistent professional.
I just hope our young guys start to peak before GMC starts to fade. Licht will put us in position to win with the talent we have. Fingers crossed that Mike Smith can get this Defense to perform at a higher level and continue to grow with our Offense… That should be our focus as fans, not taking shots at players on a beloved Bucs.

I agree coreyatx, why do we take so many potshots at our players. Seems to me like it or not we have what we have and unless any trade improves our team we should not make it. I haven’t been behind every draft pick we have made but I will not dis any of our players once they are Bucs.

Those who hate on McCoy are misguided. They expect him to rake in sack and QB hurries and he is not that type of DT……Sapp, Suh and Donald are rare players. In most defenses Your DTs job is to stop the run and clog the middle. Anybody who doesn’t realize that GMC is one of the best run stoppers in the league is just plain foolish. McCoy also has the ability to break off his blocks and get some sacks and no QB in the league is going to step into the pocket anywhere near McCoy without getting knocked. McCoy is a well earned probowler and if you disagree because he smiles your a jack azz.
What I don’t like is McCoy being compared to Sapp. The sack numbers are irrelevant IMO. Sapp was one of the greatest DTs to ever play and had the rare ability to pressure the QB, or at least collapse the pocket, on nearly every down. Sappy sack numbers are kinda ire eland and don’t tell the whole story. Sapp forced action on every play and his teammates often where the beneficiaries in the stats department……….one negative from Sapp was that his first step into the pocket opened holes in the running game and the Bucs got run over a few times in those days……that’s something we don’t have to worry about with GMC.

Bucs fans are tired of losing every single year, and people are still saying how GREAT some of the players are. No player is great on a BOTTOM FEEDING team, and that’s what the Bucs are like it or not. That’s reality, face it and quit living in a fantasy world. In my opinion the ENTIRE team has stunk up the field for the past 5 seasons and GMC is LEADER of the STENCH. 6 years in the league and you have never played in a playoff game and fans here are giving you accolades. At Lakeland High we have been to the State Playoffs for 37 consecutive years with 6 State Titles. The Bucs fans has accepted losing as a WAY OF LIFE, and it’s really SAD.

LakeLandBuc – You are an angry, bitter person (for good reason with this team!) I don’t think your point of view on this one is right. You can’t lump the whole team into one pile of stink and ignore that we have a few good players. Are you gonna lump Doug Martin, V Jacks, and LVD in your pile of stink? Until this coahing staff proves different (and I think they will) we have not had a real coaching staff since Gruden left. The Glaziers thought they had that with Lovie, but that turned out to be a huge miss as well. We all should really be giving the Glazier boys more credit for the disaster this franchise has been for the last decade, and not blaming one of our few really good players.

@Dreambig, They all stinks, they bathe in the same filth. Until they win some meaningful games, people will always disrespect them. That’s not hate, that’s life, the bully won’t quit bullying you until you knock him out. The Bucs are lacking VOCAL leaders who also perform on the field ” every Sunday”, you know the types, Ray Lewis, Tom Brady, Dez Bryant etc. I would respect GMC more if he quit the kidding and get real on the field, ” is he tired of losing” ?. If you are the highest paid player, the leader, the captain of the ship then it’s your job to right the ship. That comes with the territory, if you don’t want the responsibility then jump ship.

Ima say it again for all you we’ve stunk for X amount of years types. How much elite QB play have we had during any of those years??? I’ll be waiting lakeland. Because I’ll assume (like an @$$) you’re intelligent enough to know without good QB play in this league you have nothing. We just got our blessing at the QB position. Some of you dudes should relax a little. Can already see ya fist pumpin the air right now as a result of the sucess this season will bring.

@Nole, I agree we are only as good as our QB, and we will win with Jameis, and it shouldn’t take that long. But we need our defensive leaders to step us and get us off the field in 3rd down situations. How many games did we lose last season ( after bowing a 4th quarter lead) we need these so-call BEASTS on defense to come through in the clutch.

Regarding McCoy, he doesn’t have to be a leader. He does his job and does it pretty dam well. Many posters rail on coaching with the “round peg a square hole”. So don’t do it with McCoy, he ain’t a leader don’t expect him to be such…..it’s management’s job to find leaders. Not every top three draft pick is a leader. If management can’t find tone setter to play with McCoy blame them.
Pushing blame onto a talented player because of his attitude(which isn’t bad) and demeanor(again not bad) is just scapegoating the real problem.

Now do you notice a difference in talent?? And with all that help around him he’s only managed 6 more sacks than GMC so far and if GMC could of stayed healthy like Suh he would probably have more sacks. And GMC has played in far more terrible Defenses too, wich factors into the equation as well.
I’ll take the gentle giant over the “nuts stompin”, “kick u wen your down” type of player in low Ballin Suh anyday. Who wants a type of person lIke that on there team? Im all for sum attitude and gritty type nastyness, but thats a whole nother level.

I do. He does not come off as a team player.
He clearly resented Winston as the face of the team.
His sacks appears to come in the 4th quarter, not my observation but another fan.
I would have loved to been the fly on the wall when he found out Winston was going to the Pro-Bowl. Freudian slip his comments were: my Yoda impression.
He is not untradeable, let the right offers come send him packing, until then will settle. Make no mistake the are legitimate concerns.
