Austin Seferian-Jenkins embraces adversity, per a new feature about him in the Tampa Bay Times, but ASJ has no empathetic hug for fans who confront him on social media.
You won’t get a Captain Morgan pose and a smile, beat writer Rick Stroud explained.
What he didn’t care for was the amount of doubters who confronted him on Twitter. Rather than ignore them as white noise, he confronted naysayers, making his account, @Aesj88, an interesting one to follow.
“You troll me, I’m going to troll you,” Seferian-Jenkins said, using the social media term for people who deliberately antagonize others. “I’m a normal person. You say something about me, I’m going to say something back, funny or not. I’m just going to be me. It’s nothing against them. I’m just doing what you do to me.”
Joe sure hopes ASJ realizes it’s a bad idea to engage in social media fights with fans. Surely, he’s been advised of this common-sense approach from influential people at One Buc Palace.
And Joe hopes ASJ figures out he’s not “a normal person.” He’s an NFL player representing Team Glazer, the Buccaneers franchise and his teammates 24/7, and he’s a man with abnormal physical ability and abnormal wealth and opportunity.
That doesn’t mean ASJ should take abuse on his own Twitter account, but isn’t that what the Twitter “block” feature is for? In summary, Joe hopes ASJ learns how to block.

On a serious note, I think what this tells us is ASJ hasn’t grown up at all yet, which is a bummer. I really hope this kid puts more time and effort into improving his skill and his taking care of his body, than he does trolling trolls on Twitter.
For gods sake man, grow the f@ck up! Every famous person has thousands of not millions of internet trolls, ignore them and learn how to improve your play! You’re not even famous yet by NFL standards, so maybe you should worry more about your job.

Not a fan of this guy. I dont like his attitude. He’s liable for many penalties on the field. He’s more than likely a possible bad apple in the locker room. If he has ANY trade value at this point I would pull the trigger. Especially if they like what they have in Vitale.

Just shut people (including me) up with on field performance. I love being wrong on things like that but ASJ doesn’t look like he’s going to last much longer. This maybe his last year in Tampa if he can’t at least suit up and play in at least 10 games.

So 6 games, 20 passes caught, 339yds and 4 TDs. When he plays he impacts. That’s why he’s on this team. He just needs to stay healthy.

Another thing I learned enroute to looking up other things.
I am a stats nerd, but sometimes they don’t tell the whole story.
Four TDs in six games sounds pretty good……… but
1st TD against Tennessee down 21 to nothing.
2nd TD against Tennessee down 42 to 7, ended by the victory dance to the end zone.
3rd TD against Chicago on a Hail Mary pass with one second left in the fourth quarter, and down by 12 points.
4th TD against St. Louis with 2:24 left in the fourth quarter, when down by 15 points.
Some wags might say those would count as “garbage time” scores for ASJ, and by extension for JW3 as well, but not me.

When ASJ is on the field….he produces….if he can stay healthy, he will do very well for us…..and the best way to stop the trolling is to perform.
There will be those who will continue well beyond reasonable criticism….those aren’t trolls….they are idiots.

Dear ASJ:
OK so football players are real people too! The thing of it is though, fans think they know something and are more than willing to pass it on as gospel. They act sometimes as though your job (ASJ’s) is tantamount to life or death.
Frankly, I don’t give a crap what you do. You don’t pay my bills or put food on my table. You’re a football player in a game designed to be entertainment. Sometimes you’re entertaining, lately not so much. Don’t listen to the trolls. No matter what you do it will NEVER be good enough in their eyes. They’re jealous because you do what they cannot and make a boat-load of money doing it.
The true fans want to see you excel. It’s good for the team. Get healthy, play hard, and forget the haters (cue the Taylor Swift song!).

Here’s hoping that the ASJ doubters, haters and trolls get shut up big time by his play in 2016. He’s certainly capable of making big plays and lots of them when healthy.
There’s a guy sitting right next to him in the TE meeting room who came in with somewhat similar expectations after 2 4th round picks were spent on him (Stocker) – who has been through worse than ASJ, but came through the other side of a long string of injuries to be a productive and valued member of this team.
Just do what you do and be who you are ASJ. Work hard, eat right, stay positive and try to be humble and grateful for your opportunities.
Sefarian-Jenkins has a BIG future ahead of him in the NFL if he can put it all together.

ASJ will have 8 tds miss no games have 700+ yards 50+ catches, some quiet games because of multiple options, some WOW games, people forget it takes time for TEs to get acclimated to the pros watch he will be very productive his 3rd yr, and all the haters can complain about someone else next year, haters hate that’s their job is to hate it

Hopefully all are rooting for him to succeed…..but it seems some won’t be happy with that because they are happier being down on a player.
I will say that ASJ made it easy to dislike him with a couple of his immature on field antics…..but only a blind fool could deny his obvious talent.
Let’s root for him to pull it together……I certainly bet Jameis does.

ASJ definitely works for the Team…..they pay his contract…..they negotiate terms with him.
But, part of the Team’s goals are to please the fans and you do that by employing players that help you win and players that do it in a positive way.

The dude had a serious injury last year that Lovie downplayed and made him look bad in doing so. He has the skill set to be elite. Now we just need to hope he can stay clear of the injury bug and produce like the powers that be know he can.

The folks who continue to bash on ASJ are out of bounds. His injury last year was serious, and his coaches have only good things to say about his desire to get back on the field. Everyone likes to amplify a few of his egregious penalties as fodder for further unreasonable criticism. This attitude has been unfair and misguided.
When ASJ has been on the field, he’s been one of our most productive players. I guess I should remind people again that McCoy had an injury plagued first 2 years. Why don’t we just give the ASJ trashing a rest. When he’s healthy, he’s got few peers in the NFL at that position, and we know he’s a TD producer. Let’s wish him the best for this year instead of continuing to drag him through the mud.

All I’m saying is that those penalties have been magnified, and if the guy hadn’t had the misfortune of being injured, we would’ve long forgotten them. I really believe people are amplifying these other perceived shortcomings because they’re frustrated that he can’t get on the field. So it’s misguided. It’s unwarranted. He can’t help it if he’s been injured. So the trashing is unnecessary, but clearly some people get off on trashing players. I don’t, unless it’s truly warranted, like losing games repeatedly with stupid mistakes, or having a terrible attitude, or being a locker-room cancer, or just sucking out loud.

I understand what you are saying and agree with you to a certain extent. I just think ASJ has rubbed people the wrong way with his actions and childish antics. It’s easier to pull for a guy that is likable and is team first. I am not saying ASJ is a bad guy obviously, I don’t know him personally nor does anyone here posting but his penalties have happened at horrible times and his celebrating a td when the team is getting blown out pissed a lot of people off as well. Nothing would make me happier than to see him grow up stay healthy and make my favorite team better. however, it’s at the point now where he must earn it through his action not through his potential.

ASJ has never played at a pro bowl level. a couple of good games here and a couple of good games there over a 2 year span is hardly pro bowl level. Pro bowl means NOTHING, ZERO and ZILCH… it’s a popularity contest nothing more… Big difference between pro bowl and all pro..
Consistency is key and being available is key… Potential means nothing without results.

tmax he has had exactly two, I repeat TWO, foolish penalties. For some reason our fan base like to trash on certain players. Our best and most proven player on defense is the other target. The dude was hurt and all the tough guys out there claim he is made of glass. You have to stick out sometimes with the guys that have a ton of potential. Waiting on GMC worked out fine and hopefully it does with ASJ as well.

waiting on GMC has worked out fine… that is hilarious… gmc had done nothing but put up meaningless numbers during meaningless times in the games. you and i both can count on one hand the meaningful / impact plays gmc has made. most overrated buc in history. GMC is a good but not great player. If GMC was hurt so bad last year he should have never played in a meaningless dog and pony show the pro bowl… that is not a team first decision that he made. On ASJ you are not factoring the timing and the childish nature of his penalties. Sorry it’s time for the guy to prove it on the field. Myron Lewis had potential too… how did that work out.

I was thinking the same thing that Buc Realist said, that ASJ was reading the flow here at JBF. That may have formed his opinion that people question his game. The other media I know nothing about. I don’t believe that anyone here hates ASJ, just high expectations that he excels for the Bucs. Anyway, I get the feeling that fan opinions mean little to him and countering opinions will not work to his favor. He has revealed his overall demeanor.
