Chucky: “I Think They’re A Playoff Team”
May 15th, 2016Fans wonder why Joe has stated repeatedly that Dirk Koetter has at most two seasons — yes, two — to figure out how to turn the Bucs into a team that wins at least nine games a year — you know, like Chucky did in his final two seasons before getting fired in 2008.
The Bucs have a franchise quarterback and a legitimate offense, an offense ranked fifth in the NFL last season for yardage gained. There’s talent on defense, too, with a legitimate Pro Bowler now in all three levels of defense, and experience and speed.
A veteran coaching staff like the Bucs’ should build a winner in two years. If not, then Joe will ask, “What the hell is going on here?”
Chucky himself seems to have the same mindset. He talked to Chris Fischer of WTSP-TV, Ch. 10, on Friday night, and didn’t hesitate to call Tampa Bay a real-deal team.
“Expectations are high and they should be. I think they’re a playoff team,” Chucky said of the Bucs.
Joe will have much more of Chucky and Fischer tomorrow morning. So come on back.
For now, savor the thought/fantasy of your Bucs playing meaningful January football. Remember, the Bucs close the season on New Year’s Day at home versus Carolina.

I cant say I agree koetter has only two years. The last three coaches we have had, Lovie, Schiano and ,Raheem….none of them were as good with one phaze of the game as koetter is with offense. Lovie was supposed to be with his defense but that homecoming ended quickly. Koetter will pull his weight and then some, and the only reason this team fails is on defense and special teams. I will tell ya right now if Mike Smith fails in year one I promote Hayes to DC and save my own ass from getting fired. Things will be fine though, they are a playoff team and things will be great again in Tampa for the bucs

If my outlandish Super Bowl in 2017 prediction comes true…
You all owe me a beer…or 2 or 3…lol
May 15th, 2016 at 9:29 am
2017 super bowl? Meaning after this season or next?
Next season is not that outlandish if the defensive line gets pressure and sacks.
Plus they’ll need another young WR to emerge.
Those things hopefully happen this year and then next year will be a very legit chance for a long playoff run
May 15th, 2016 at 9:37 am
@buc1987
I would gladly pay up on that. Iwould mail you some good Canadian pints
May 15th, 2016 at 9:43 am
87- but Koetter would be doing it with “Lovie’s team”
I can just see the broken-hearted apologists now all bitching and crying about the raw deal he got.
We have legitimate reason to be excited in this football team for the first time in many many years.
May 15th, 2016 at 9:54 am
This isn’t Lovies team it’s kotters team now and everybody has a job to do and if they do it with the passion that Americas Quaterback has every year is a year we can win!! Bucs4life

Koetter*
May 15th, 2016 at 10:34 am
Joe, Nice photo.. The good ole days.. Bring it back Bucs..
May 15th, 2016 at 10:41 am
@Dallas buc- I know you aren’t arguing that point, so this isn’t against you. But if we have success and people say it was with Lovie team, doesn’t that just prove koetter is a better coach? He will have gotten more out of the same group of players Lovie did. In the case of a playoff birth A LOT more. Only solidifies why Lovie needed to go.
May 15th, 2016 at 10:48 am
Sorry chucky we still have 2 many holes and depth issues.
Let’s say v jack gets hurt we have nothing behind him
For some reason we didn’t take and a d tackle in the richest d line draft in 20 years. So we have no depth there.
If nobody gets hurt 8-8
If there are a couple of injuries 6-10
Also nobody wants a bad kicker but we aren’t rich enough to buy a mansion yet
We still needed to build the
Foundation
There were so many great lineman we could have gotten with those two picks
May 15th, 2016 at 11:17 am
1987 I raise ur bet and say Tampa will be 2018-2020 super bowl champs yea I said the Bucs will be the first to threepeet lol
May 15th, 2016 at 11:22 am
We should finish at 11-5.
May 15th, 2016 at 11:38 am
Lake land if we finish 11-5 I will demand that dirk get a extension on his contract and gets a sign inch bonus lol
May 15th, 2016 at 11:48 am
Why would we give Koetter more than 2 yrs? Why change our MO now? Somebody here says we should finish 11-5. Please give me your dealer. I’d like to have some of that..stash!! Slippin and ah trippin!
May 15th, 2016 at 12:08 pm
Now I’m not crazy but I can see it happening I really think kotter gave Jameis best car to race but he still was in it with him now kotter is going to let Jameis drive alone and tune the car up I say that to say this kotter only show possibly 10 % of his playbook and now we’re are other 90%
May 15th, 2016 at 12:30 pm
87,
If your 2017 Superbowl prediction is outlandish, what would be the word for my prediction of a 2016 Superbowl Championship and 4-5 Superbowl titles for the Bucs in the next decade…. ???
I’m thinking that the word some people would use is ‘stupid’, but I’m leaning more toward ‘visionary’ and/or ‘brilliant’.
Because I’m a pretty intelligent fan. (Although I was horribly wrong about Jameis last offseason)
May 15th, 2016 at 12:36 pm
Lol, and I’ll let u guys in the loop on something…
In my circle of friends, I’m now known as the ‘Kwon Alexander’ of bucs fans bcuz of my fierce competitive optimism.
Jameis, Kwon, and others (me included lol) are going to manifest success. Everyone who isn’t optimistic at this point will be proven wrong in a few months.
May 15th, 2016 at 12:37 pm
You guys are talking Super Bowl. I’d just like to see 8-8 for once! LOL!
May 15th, 2016 at 12:40 pm
Joe is the same guy that said Lovie had more than 2 years to get this team winning. I disagreed with him then and I disagree with him now. I dont believe there is a time table for Dirk here. Nor was there a time table on Lovie. There are a lot of variables. For Lovie the variables were all bad. The team was not improving even though the wins went up in year 2. The only thing Lovie accomplished in 2 years was being bad enough to draft the #1 pick. I dont think Dirk has to win now but he does have to look competent and the team has to improve not necessarily in wins.
May 15th, 2016 at 12:44 pm
Can anyone tell what is attached to Grudens necklace in the picture? Looks like it says Old Spice.
May 15th, 2016 at 12:47 pm
All of BucNation will have their eyes firmly planted on the defense this year. For what feels like centuries, we always had a legit defense and the offense could never catch up. Now, we have a legit offense and the defense has been very suspect. It’s in Mike Smith and Hayes hands now. If our defense can hold up, specifically our pass rush, we could be a special team. I have ultimate confidence that Winston and this offense will be solid.
May 15th, 2016 at 12:55 pm
fan thats what I was trying to say you said it better koetter will show improvement right out the gate
May 15th, 2016 at 12:58 pm
Chucky loves every quarterback and in his season previews every team makes the playoffs.
May 15th, 2016 at 1:06 pm
Bucs will be improved in all 3 phases of the game this year.
Bucs 2016 Superbowl Champs
May 15th, 2016 at 1:12 pm
Rod Munch has been sippin on the haterade this fine Sunday afternoon.
May 15th, 2016 at 1:56 pm
This team has been flatlining for too long for me to realistically think about playoffs. They’ll have to some something on the field first.
May 15th, 2016 at 2:10 pm
I see 6-7 wins we’ll need another good draft and some fa to compete. I think you have to throw the ball and I don’t see enough receivers. Also I think you need a good defensive line and we have no good depth at dt. We could have improved both this year but licht chose not to address either position. But hey, we got the best under 40 kicker in college!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe next year we can snag a punter in the 2nd rd. really smart rare people know how important punters and kickers are. Lmao..
May 15th, 2016 at 2:40 pm
Who is here that lovie brought in??? Most guys were cut the same year though we still pay or cut after drafted and last year draft only one still here mad that was all offense except kwon. Lovie men sure aren’t offensive.
May 15th, 2016 at 2:45 pm
Brent bull : wtf ?? What were we ranked last year on offense and everyone is back WR and RB , I would expect less drops and that alone would bring production up
DLINE did you look at roster ? We got free agent from NYG and drafts pulse still some young guys returning from last year. McCoy , McDaniel and others inside line.

here’s the interview: http://www.wtsp.com/sports/nfl/buccaneers/10sports-talks-bucs-with-jon-gruden/193440270
May 15th, 2016 at 3:36 pm
It’s fine that they were ranked 10th in yardage last year. A lot of those yards were garbage though. Don’t get too hyped up over that stat.
Remember the St Louis game last year, they put up nearly 300 yards well after the game was decided and the Rams were in a soft defense.
May 15th, 2016 at 3:44 pm
Some of these comment are funny. Super Bowl? We’ve been a laughing stock of the league for a decade. Been in the cellar of our weak division for half a decade.
Baby gotta learn to crawl before she can sprint. I just hope the Bucs can return to relevance. Once that happens Super Bowl predictions won’t sound so funny.
May 15th, 2016 at 3:44 pm
Most every Buc fan thinks the Bucs arrow is pointed up and I agree. It won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but this team and coaching is definitely on the up and up. Now repeat that mantra over and over and the fans enthusiasm is bursting at the seams.
May 15th, 2016 at 4:58 pm
@the truth, who do we have other than Akeem spence at dt. Melton and McDaniel were let go. No fa or draft picks at dt. I agree we have 2 decent starters but you can’t play a rotation with 3 guys plus you have to factor in injuries. I guess we’ll pick up some garbage later but we could have had billings or Sheldon day in the 4th with that extra pick we gave up for Agustin. Or we could have snagged pharaoh cooper. Wr I see as thin 2 good guys and nothing proven after that. No speed guy no slot threat.
May 15th, 2016 at 5:34 pm
Brent-Consider that Ayers can play inside and we might see some Golston too. I also am sure they will bring in some help after cuts during camp. We could see some 3-4 this year too which changes things.
Now this is just a theory but I think they have a plan in place here. They want Noah Spence to be the lone rookie in camp. They want him surrounded by only grown azz men who are veterans. Noah will have to do what he is told when he is told. He will have no friends and the Bucs want it that way. And when they signed Ayers, and didn’t sniff at Mario Williams they had this plan in mind.
May 15th, 2016 at 5:39 pm
87- if your prediction comes through, you have 2 or 3 cases of beer coming from my buddy!!!!!
May 15th, 2016 at 9:20 pm
Made that prediction before they drafted Jameis.
“Jameis Winston will win a Super Bowl within 3 years of entering the NFL no matter which team takes him in the draft”
2017 fellas. You’re buying. lol
May 15th, 2016 at 10:34 pm
If Koetter wins 11 games next season, just go ahead and put him in the ring of honor and get it over with.
May 16th, 2016 at 2:21 am
7 wins this year….10+ 2017….10+ 2018
May 16th, 2016 at 6:40 am
@buccaneers
Jason Licht signed free agents to be bridge players.think that setting an example and taking spence under their wing for would be part of what is expected of them. That would create chemistry on the team.Let the coaches coach ,when needed.
May 16th, 2016 at 6:28 pm
Lol you guy are talking super bowl? Man I just hope I can see more home wins then ive seen the last 2 years. Which I believe ive seen 3 home wins in 2 years.
May 16th, 2016 at 8:03 pm
SOGGY Says:
May 15th, 2016 at 10:34 am
Joe, Nice photo.. The good ole days.. Bring it back Bucs..
OR
Put another way…BringBucsBack
Yeah guys & gals, lets stop a few slants, get MANY more sacks, defeat a back-up QB, catch the ball with more regularity, score more & compete in our improved division first; then SB talk may be in order!
May 16th, 2016 at 9:53 pm
Koetter better have more than two years. If he doesnt and he gets fired, no quality coach will want to come here. They already call us Cleveland South.
May 17th, 2016 at 12:11 pm
Stop it with these articles every year it’s the same thing the Bucs will be the surprise team of the Nfl, they’ll make the playoffs, they’ll win at least 10 games….. Etc just stop year in and year out they do nothing but finish last in the division (every year for the last 7-8 years except that year wit Raheem) and under achieve. When is the last time they made the playoffs!? Stop with this non-sense till they actually do something
