Jameis Endorses Defensive End Noah Spence

America’s Quarterback talks draft
Out at One Buc Palace today, Joe asked America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, about the NFL Draft.
Jameis certainly added intrigue to the pre-draft buzz.
Joe asked Jameis whether he had interacted with any of the potential draft picks that visited One Buc Palace this spring.
“I’m very good friends with [Eastern Illinois] defensive end Noah Spence. We played in the All-American game coming out of high school,” Jameis said. “So it was good, and when he came to town, he told me he was talking to the coaches and stuff, so I was very happy for him.”
Did Jameis do any upselling of Spence?
“I can’t really do much because my opinion at the end of the day doesn’t matter,” Jameis said.
“I know [Spence] is a great guy. He works his tail off and you just see how all that stuff is behind him. Whatever, I don’t even know his [past] situation, but I know he’s a great person. I know his dad personally. He’s just always been a great friend of mine.”
So there you have it. Jameis likes a defensive end that a lot of Bucs fans would like to see wearing pewter and red this weekend, whether it be in the first or second round.
That has to mean at least a little something. Joe thinks Jameis is downplaying his influence upstairs at One Buc Palace. A blessing from Jameis has to mean at least a little something.

Yeah it means we are drafting him… JL knew that when he draft JW last year he would tell him who to pick going forward… Heck JW is really the man behind the grand slam…. True Story…

Great 2nd round pick if he drops. I would be ok to move back into the bottom 7 or so picks in the 1st round for him.

Here is my take, the guy is rated lower because of his question of character. Hes the best pass rusher in the draft. Hes not going to make it to the second round so I take him at 9 unless I can trade back, but if you trade back you risk someone else taking him.
I would take spence at 9 he is worth the risk. If licht thinks he is that good and hayes thinks he is that good he will be wearing pewter.

Spence is a reach at 9. Wait until round 2. Or trade back from #9 into the 20’s and grab him, while picking up some extra picks in the process.

My opinion at the end of the day doesn’t matter either. But, here goes:
The Bucs needs are d-line and cb. The quality picks at o-line may be too good to pass, and the Bucs may be feeling a need to grab a wideout. (Safety is a need, but a later round need, unless Ramsey).
Top d-line prospects are Spence (as pass rusher), Rankins, Ogbah and Lawson, in that order.
Cb is much harder to grade, with Anderson, Apple, Burns, Hargreaves and Jackson as 1st round quality. (Alphabetical order, folks, not ability grades).
On wide receiver, Doctson and Coleman could bolster the Bucs. No one expects a wr choice.
O-line involves the talent of Stanley and Tunsil, if either falls. Not exactly a luxury pick, more a talent pick. Stanley would have to play left side with Smith sliding to right guard or tackle. (Wasn’t Bonzai pining for a chance to see Marpet at center?). A beastly four, with a talented dancer.
My bet is d-line, specifically Spence, Rankins or Bosa. I think it is delusional to expect any of those three to last ten more picks, much less to second round.

I truly think it’s between Bosa and Spence for our #1 pick. I wouldn’t hate picking Spence, but I would hope would could pair him with someone like DE Kaufusi (sp?) in the second.

I do not understand all of the Bosa love. I personally hope he gets drafted earlier than #9 so we don’t have to worry about the chance of the bum ending up as a Buc.

I don’t know about spence and it has nothing to do with his character….yeah he can rush the passer but in the senior bowl I saw him get eaten alive by spencer drango and Denver Kirkland….granted those to players will be playing guard at the next level but he couldn’t disengage with them to save his life….GO BUCS!!!

I say take Jack Conklin at 9, and then trade Glennon and our second to move back into the first for the 32nd overall…and take Spence or Dodd.

If Spence is a reach at 9 Bosa also has to be a reach at 9. Both guys were reprimanded for the same drug and once Spence left Bosa game suffered.

He is a young dude, and the drug he took makes the girls much more receptive to sex. It is a very common party drug, at colleges and high schools throughout the USA. Remember, President Bush Jr took Cocaine. I would love to see him in Tampa.

Take him at #9 if you think he is the next Simeon Rice, I don’t care if draftniks think that’s high, I bet there are a few teams wouldn’t have minded taking Kwon in round one or Lavonte David, yeah Mel Kiper wouldn’t been scratching his helmet hair, but those guys are producing like a first rounder, ijs

I would not be upset to see Noah Spence drafted tomorrow – unless it was at spot #9 and then I would be pissed at all the wasted value.
If Spence is the #1 DE on the Bucs board and that’s who they intend to pick – then Licht needs to either find a 1st round trade down partner or just pick BPA at 9 and then move back up into the 20s to get Spence.
Spence will for sure not last until #39 – but there’s no way he’s a top 10 pick either…

@ Pickgrin “Value” is a perceived, abstract notion created by those who think they know what they are talking about when evaluating how GMs value talent. If he ends up drafted by the Bucs at 9 the draft community will be up in arms, but he will not, as you say, last until #39 so what is the point?
What matters is how effective he is and his impact. Beyond that, value counts for nil.

Spence would be a great value in a late Rd 1 trade up or second round pick. He’s a poor man’s Von Miller.
As noted, Spence got caught doing molly and kicked out of school for it while Bosa goes to raves for the music. Cool story, bro.

That is total BS
If Noah Spence is the 21st best player on your big board (value 800) and you pick him at #9 (value 1350) – then you just threw the equivalent value of a very high 2nd round pick in the trash can.
You can poo poo the value chart all you want – but every single GM in the NFL uses it and pretty closely abides by it.
If Licht has Spence as the 9th or 10th best overall player in the draft on the Bucs board going in – then fine – I’ll trust that evaluation. But I seriously doubt that’s the case considering a high % of mock drafts have Spence not being drafted until the top of the 2nd round.

I’ve liked Spence all along and of all the players with “issues”…including Bosa…Spence has done the most to quiet those fears. He went to the end of the world…Richmond freaking Ky. (I’m a native Kentuckian and so I can say that lol) He didn’t whine…he paid his dues and he deserves this shot.
And so here is my fantasy draft….We get Ramsey and Spence!!! Stars have to align but it’s not out of the question.
The ONLY downside to Spence is that Deckerhoff will have fun if Noah and Akeem are in the game at the same time. Spence makes the sack…uh..which one?

And mock drafts are what, exactly? Amateur presuppositions of what GMs may or may not actually think. Give fans something to chew on before the draft goes down.
Now value as you describe it – with the whole point system – I am in agreement that it is most likely used by 100% of the organizations to value draft pick positioning, and thats about it. At the end of the day the point system and where you think a player should go in the draft is complete trash in evaluating the pick. Its all about the return you get on the field.

When was the last time that a player widely mocked in the late 20s>early 30s was selected in the top 10? It just doesn’t happen. Almost never.
Yes, beauty is in the eye of the scouting beholder and all team’s boards have variations from other team’s boards. But to suggest that Noah Spence is a top 10 prospect on the Buccaneers draft board when he is so widely mocked as the 25th>35th best player coming out – well its just unlikely. Even if the Bucs have him rated higher than most at say the #18 best player on their big board – you still don’t take him at 9. No Way. There are better players available.
Reaching for need is a terrible way to run an organization. After 10 years of Allen and Dom doing exactly that seemingly perpetually – you’de think Bucs fans would understand the repercussions of such insanity better than most…

Players selected in the top 10 considered to be later picks by the draft community…. Blake Bortles, Justin Gilbert, Eric Ebron, Ereck Flowes, even Todd Gurley. It happens.
I respect your opinion on this but don’t be surprised if Lichts pick goes against what the draftniks believe. He already did it once (D smith) and I should not be the least bit shocked if he does it again and goes Spence @ 9

Blake Bortles was mocked in the top 10 by a lot of people, including Todd McShay and Bucky Brooks in 2014. McShay also had Ebron in the top 10. I don’t see any known analyst predicting Spence in the top 10 right now.
Eric Ebron btw was picked at 10 in 2014. Aaron Donald was taken 3 picks later. I’m pretty sure the Lions kick themselves every day for that selection. Much like any Browns fan does when they hear the name Justin Gilbert.

I’d stay away from Bosa. I also hear people saying Spence is a value pick in the later rounds? I gotta laugh that one off. HE won’t get out of the 1st rd without somebody snatching him. I do want our Bucs to take him. But my gut says they will not. I’d go with a CB rather than Bosa.

The problem that I see with Spence is that he is smaller than some of the other guys here and that has to factor into how effective he will be in the NFL. Most of your great defensive ends have been on the larger side. I think Spence is best suited as an OLB.
