Pete Carroll Talks J.R. Sweezy

Joe talked to Pete Carroll this morning about new Bucs guard J.R. Sweezy.
Joe knows what keeps Bucs fans awake on March nights. They want to know what the hell they really got in this new crop of free agents.
That’s why Joe talked to Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll this morning at the NFC Coaches Breakfast at the NFL Owners Meetings.
The Bucs paid big cash for former starting Seahawks guard J.R. Sweezy in free agency.
So, Coach, what are the Bucs getting in Sweezy?
“He’s a great team guy. We loved him. He was one of our favorite guys,” Carroll said. “You know, he was a defensive player that turned into an offensive player and is still in process of growing and all.
“He’ll be a great addition to their team. We really miss that he got away. He just became, he became too expensive, unfortunately.”
Joe must emphasize that Carroll really had a lot of love in his tone, which was pretty cool.
Sweezy turns 27 next month and has three full years of starting experience. He’s no Pro Bowler, but he’s a mauler in the run game and the X-factor is what Carroll mentioned: He’s still learning the position.
After what Bucs offensive line coach George Warhop pulled of last year, Joe has real faith that Sweezy will improve in 2016

this is obvisouly good news, not only for the running game. It means that the money has been well spent !
I particulary like the “He’s a great team guy” ! We need this kind of people in tis team if we want the mentality to change

Agreed. He hasn’t played offense since pee wee football. He just started playing offensive line 3 years ago. That is flat out ridiculous if u think about it. Competing in a new position with greatest athletes at that position in the world. Still learning. Hopefully we can get to his max potential very quickly

Has a coach in the history of trades and free agency ever said..”hahaha you guys signed HIM?? He was a terrible teammate, bad attitude, stinks as a player?” I don’t think so. It’s like a halftime interview…pointless bc they say what we want to hear…always

Perhaps too expensive for the Seahawks and their cap situation, but the 2016 NFL, snagging a guy who plays every offensive snap for $6 million feels like a win

I love the signing of Sweezy. I was really worried about the LG position, not so much now. I was also worried about the run game if we didnt sign Martin, not so much now.
Licht is making all the right moves so far. Now we just need edge rush, a star safety, and another star wide out.

Jason Licht is rebuilding us, and I like what he is doing so far. Sweezy is a good player, with a lot of upside. He opened many a hole for Marshawn Lynch. I was terribly worried when Mankins retired, but not as much now.
