Stop Insulting Team Glazer With “Victim” Talk

Joe can’t believe the nonsense-peddling circulating around town.
The latest edition comes from columnist Tom Jones of the Tampa Bay Times.
Jones is struggling to swallow why Lovie Smith was fired. Jones has a bad taste in his mouth — after Lovie made Bucs fans drink sewer water for two full years. How ironic.
Jones spent a load of time on WDAE-AM 620 radio this morning hammering away at Team Glazer, and in the newspaper today like some kindergarten girl demanding to know why she was punished after pulling her sister’s hair, lying to her grandmother and kicking the dog.
Everything Smith hoped the Bucs would do — everything he planned for the Bucs to do — is being done. The only problem? It’s being done for new coach Dirk Koetter, while Smith is off to salvage what is left of his coaching career at a second-tier Big Ten school.
This whole fire-Lovie-hire-Dirk deal is looking messier and uglier by the day and you know who is to blame for the bad look? The Glazers.
They’re the ones who fired Smith, although they have yet to explain their reasons, leaving it up to general manager Jason Licht to do the dirty work even though it wasn’t Licht’s decision to fire Smith.

Maybe Joe is missing something, but this assault on Team Glazer is very misguided.
Lovie won three home games in two years. Lovie’s team went flat with a four-game losing streak to close last season. Lovie’s third-down defense was the worst in Bucs history over the past 20 years. Quarterbacks, including plenty of bad quarterbacks, completed 70 percent of passes against Tampa Bay. Joe could go on and on. Team Glazer acted like sane, thoughtful businessmen: They concluded Lovie was unfit for Super Bowl duty and moved on.
There really was nothing to say.
Simple as that.

I Like Tom Jones, but boy can that guy whine about the most stupid things! Lovie should’ve been canned after his third game here, when he allowed his team to be so incredibly ill prepared for a nationally televised game where the Falcons put 56 points on us before we even scored. Then….only to come back and have the Ravens hang 48 on us at home a few weeks later. He never should’ve made it to his 2nd year. The ONLY good thing about him being here, is that he made this team suck so bad, it put us in position to draft Jameis.

If you read that whole article, Jones say she didn’t have a problem with Smith being fired, and actually agreed with the decision. His whole problem is that the Glazers didn’t come out and say WHY they fired him… Guess these guys need something to write about this time of year.
But he completely contradicts himself, and gives no reasoning to his statement “this deal is looking messier and uglier by the day”. Talk about drama and hyperbole.

If there is one game that made me very upset last year and, for me, symbolise Lovie Smith Job as HC, it’s the game against the Redskins !
We did a very impressive job in first half, leading the game by 20 points or more and finally we lost it !
How is that possible ! It was Lovie SMith Defense ! HE was in charge, and still in all the second half HIS defence was unable to stop a play !
And as Joe complained a lot last year about it, in how many occasion did Lovie Smith play turtle ? (yes Joe, I’m not only reading the action happening in hot tube)
So I respect Lovie Smith as a human being and I’m even wishing him well in his new job in Illinois but I’m glad he left.
I’m just hoping now that the trio GM Licht, HC Koetter, and DC Smith will do better.

You have to look at it this way. Lovie is basically the second coming of Joe Philbin in Miami. His third year would’ve been a lost year because players would’ve lost trust in him after the first game. Our schedule is tough this season. We would’ve still been losing close games. Our defense would continue to be shredded. Lovie would still have his same dumbass face on where he just keeps proclaiming to trust his process, his losing process. Glazers would’ve been forced to fire him mid-way through the season and Koetter would’ve taken over. Koetter would’ve probably won 6-8 games as interim coach but we would’ve 100% missed the playoffs.

It has been a messy situation since 2008. The one constant through all the past 8 years has been the Glazer boy owners. They don’t really give a crap about this team winning it seems to me. Fans just have to hope that they get lucky and hire a home run for GM and coach eventually but I won’t count on it.

I’ve listened to to Tom Jones whine and whine every day for a long time and that;s why I don’t listen until 9:00 AM or after anymore. The only thing HE IS GOOD AT is agitation and starting stupid discussions. A lot more peaceful since I quit the early show.

Redskins won 31-30
after the Redskin’s overcame their largest-deficit-to-win in franchise history
when Lovie’s Defense collapsed in the second half.
That and going 0-4 the final games of the season Doomed Lovie.

Messier by the day? When one of the leagues best running backs decides to stay in Tampa that’s not messy. When Grimes decided to join that’s not messy. I almost believe if he wasn’t fired everyone would want to leave or stay away. Amazing how a coaching change will fire up the fan base and change the hearts of certain free agents and players currently with the team.

Glad I don’t subscribe to that newspaper, Tom Jones sounds like a idiot. The owners don’t have to justify the firing of the head coach that is the job of the GM, managing the operations and staff is literally the job of the GM.
I do wish Lovie luck in his new position though and I think he will do great at it. He seems to be a great role model for kids in college and hopefully he can teach them the right way to be a pro.

Lovie sold the Glazers a bill of good that he would return the Bucs to the glory days. From very early on it was apparent he was over his head in almost single way you can judge a coach. He mismanaged his staff, he let a QB coach twist in the wind all year when it was clear he was not up to the job of OC, he didn’t inspire his players or adjust on the field.
He was an embarrassment to a franchise that invented embarrassment.
Not sure what Tom Jones agenda is but he sounds like a fool.

As in any business, the owners have the right to make any decision that they feel is in the best interest of their company. I could care less who made the desicion to fire Lovie. If it isnt working, time to move on and find the right solution. Next subject!!

If Lovie was the first bad coaching hire by the Glazer babies then let’s not discuss how dysfunctional and inept they are as an ownership group. But literally every coaching decision the sons and daughters of Malcolm have made has been a disaster. A) Fire SB Winner Gruden B) Hire too-young HC Raheem Morris, fire him after 3 years C) Hire college guy Schiano, fire him after 2 years D) Hire retread Lovie, fire him after 2 years. If the Koetter promotion is anything like the last 4 moves then we should start looking at names for the 2018 Buccaneers HC search.

Well, actually, since someone brought it up…
Reasons and Theories about Lovie or why he was fired:
Disappointing results
A valid reason. Team results corelate directly with the head coach. Wins and losses should always be on the head coaches shoulders.
Free agent busts
Certainly, Josh McCown was on his shoulders. However, GM Jason Licht has admitted during television and radio interviews on several occasions that he was responsible for most of the other bad free agent signings. This, he said, includes Michael and George Johnson. He also took credit for all of the bad offensive free agent signings as well…except Josh McCown.
All the good things happened on offense
This is true…except that the Bucs defense was improving last year until Kwon was suspended. Up until that point, they were in the playoff hunt. So there WERE some good things on defense as well. However, offense was indeed the shining star.
A lack of perspective
This really is a valid reason. Lovie benched players that should not have been benched. He was stubborn and one dimensional.
To hire Dirk Koetter
Perhaps the most valid reason. Even if Koetter makes a horrible head coach (hoping he won’t), continuity is extremely important for Jameis Winston’s first 3 years.
Lovie was in complete control
This doesn’t wash. If that were the case, he would get credit for the drafts too. It is unrealistic to believe a coach whose job depends on success, just hands the keys to the draft over to the GM. If theories are correct that Licht made the decisions on those drafts, it is because Lovie was not permitted to…which means Licht was the one in power, not Lovie. Further evidence of this is that Lovie had to sell Licht on drafting Winston, who Jason did not wish to pick at first. Why would Lovie have to sell the draft pick if he was in charge?
So while Lovie made plenty of mistakes, he is not to blame for all of them. There are a lot of misconceptions as to Lovie’s true role while here…just as there is a lot of denial as to what Jason Licht had a hand in.
People seem to think I’m a Lovie guy…I’m actually not. I’m an accountability guy. Lovie was held accountable…yes…but not everything he is blamed for is true. Licht was never held to task for his mistakes.

Fact: Lovie was a bad coach for the Bucs. Remember what Gruden said: you are what your record is.
In a league where teams can turn around fairly quickly, the Bucs looked mired in the mud on defense.
I was happy with the Lovie hire. That unnecessary year-end collapse really made my heart grow cold, and I suspect ownership.
I’m more that pleased at the current direction of the team. Finally, since Gruden, a solid coaching staff for a change.

What you fail to realize is how much power lovie had in year 1, then when he took over the DC position of how much he then delegated in year 2!! And if you want to know how much lovie was involved in the draft, then just watch the video’s of lovie falling asleep at the combine!!!!
Also. just remember that just because NFL GM Licht stood up and was accountable to the media about the free agents does not mean he was the main source of all the errors. When you work for lovie you take the fall!!! Ask any of his coordinators!!!!

It seems that Howard is always two steps ahead of the masses.
Howard bashed the Glazers from ~2006 until the hiring of Licht.
That was the time period when they deserved to be bashed.
They sold out the Bucs to build ManU. Period. No debate.
Now they appear to finally be ready to turn the Bucs into a winner.
They’re putting serious personal effort and money into the team now
(unlike from 2006-2014).
Don’t feel bad Tom. Not everyone can see through things at will the way that Howard can. Get with the program. The Bucs are going to be very good again. Howard is calling it right now.

Maybe if Love did’t completly kill the teams mojo before the Saints game by lecturing Shepard for cusring during a pregame speach he would have kept his Job. Lovie is a loser. He stunk after he ran away D coordintor in CHI and was a loser ever since. Remember him, he coached in last year’s SB. May have been a little better than Lovie the loser thought.

Jason Licht has gone on record has gone on record as saying that some of the free agents signings were not a success and that he and lovie had never done that before.He also in so many words said that he no longer has to sign free agents to fit Lovies system. That would be the defense.How many ex bears do you need to see to see on this team to get that,or players that can play in
Lovie’s system.
All the turmoil on team started in Lovie’s basement where he decided to replace Banks with Michael Jenkins.Allowed Donald Penn and Jeremy Zutah to leave.
Lovie identified players he wanted to replace, so in many cases he tried to fix what wasn’t broken.
(Lovie had control of the roster) . Licht is not going to replace anybody on the roster that lovie did not want replaced period.
Lovie’s further wanted to replace Doug Martin in year two,Koetter convinced
Lovie to keep him to let him see what he could do with him.
Just watching what Lovie did with cornerbacks last year, is a great example
of the experimenting Lovie has done with the roster the last two years.

Look, Lovie took sole responsibility of the defense and lost the last four games and blew a huge lead against Washington. That is all on the Lovie. Meanwhile Koetter took lemons and made lemonade out of a horrific o-line and a rookie QB and did it without Vjax. I don’t see what the controversy is about.

As it was told to me, “by my source” . Lovie could have had full control over the draft, But was to excited by all the pieces in free agency and the current roster (this was in the beginning of 2015) and all the Tampa2 mafia telling him that now that he is coaching that it would be a sure fire 10 dominant defense. So Licht and Tedford ran the draft from there out!!!

I will give you this you have finally come up with some fair assessment on some of Lovie’s shortcomings,with the exception of Licht being responsible for
all the the bad free agents except McCown.
If Lovie wanted to replace a player,then it would be on Licht to try to replace
him. Licht can not be responsible for any players inability to fit in Lovie’s system.Musical cornerbacks proves that even Lovie could not do it.Even you

The situation looks pretty clean cut to me. Lovie smith was deemed to be a bad coach, so they fired him. Do you really expect the owners to come out and throw Lovie even further under the bus? How does that presser go?
“Well, thanks for coming to One Buc Place today. We decided to fire Lovie Smith 2 months ago. Now we are here today to throw mud at the former Bucs head coach. Lovie Smith made promises he could not keep. He promised fans that the team wasn’t rebuilding. That we would win right away. That the fans need not have patience. 2-14 in the first year was sickening enough for us to fire him. Bit we let him stick it for 1 more year in hopes he could turn it around. Week in and week out Lovie’s defense was flat out terrible. We spent Millions upon millions of our own money to pay for players that Lovie could not coach and we released to only pay them more millions. We feel this disregard for our money and his inability to coach players that he hand picked are justification enough to move on from the Lovie Era.

upon further review from Revis to Barron and 2014 free agents fab 1 details the thought processes behind the free agent signings and shared responsibility between Licht and Lovie.
you are more right than wrong on this one.
Fab 2 details licht,Robinson, and Biehl chase for Wintson in the fall
of 2013.when they reached a conclusion, they brought Lovie in on it in January of 2014 to get him to buy in.And we all know the rest.

Nobody had any idea or ever imagined the Bucs having the #5 offense in the NFL…Nobody expected Winston to throw for 4000 yards…Nobody expected Martin to rush for 1000….
It wasn’t a plan or some backdoor deal for Keotter to become head coach. He proved his value with success with Rookies and hurt vets. That is why he is the head coach.
Lovie is or was a defensive mastermind in Chicago. The defense failed every year. Either his coaching didn’t get it done or the players didn’t want to execute for him. Whatever the case maybe….he Failed.
I wanted one more year with him but im not a multi billionaire and own the Bucs. The Glazners have given Tampa a team to be proud of instead of being the Cleveland Browns…which I believe the Bucs were worse before they took ownership.
We have had our ups and downs…Just be happy we have a Franchise Quarterback for the 1st time in Franchise History…Be happy that we actually have potential. ..hope
If anyone is still pouting about how unfair it is for Lovie…he left a millionaire and will be a millionaire next year in Illinois….if you can bear the burden of unfairness….Cleveland has plenty of room for more fans
