It Was The Rookies
March 9th, 2016Now very rich Bucs running back Doug Martin did a live hit on NFL Network to talk about his new contract that runs into the eight figures.
When pressed for why he had such a good year last year, of course, the first reason Martin gave was that he was healthy. But he later admitted it was the troika of rookies that started on offense that made the difference, Jameis Winston, Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet.
“First, Dirk [Koetter] had a great hand in it,” Martin said. “But yeah, it was Jameis and we had two rookies on the offensive line that blocked well.”
Martin, nice guy that he is, isn’t much of a quote so the aforementioned words were a lot for him.
It also says a lot that a rookie quarterback was able to keep defenses just honest enough so Martin could run so well. It speaks to how defenses respected America’s Quarterback.

Why are we acting like Martin was some fat slug before last season?
Martin admitted he came in slimmer, and less muscular. But that is just him finding his best self. Now that he knows what works best, he can continue that routine and be a dominant player for years.
There is no ideal weight or size for a RB. Some RBs are big and muscular and pound people. Others are elusive and quick. Martin can be either. He tried the bulked up muscle hamster for schiano, because that is what schiano wanted. But doug didn’t like it. So he dropped weight, got toned instead of bulked. And it worked for him.
Martin should never be accused of being lazy. That is just idiotic.

Believe it or not this actually is the smartest move for America’s Quarterback.
