Report: Team Glazer Inherits $4 Million From Lovie Deal

The spirited music and clinking schnapps glasses you hear are coming from One Buc Palace.
Lovie Smith got a new job, and per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, its terms mean Team Glazer will hold on to $4 million previously earmarked for Lovie
Rapoport Twittered, “Bucs owed Lovie Smith $10M over the next two seasons. Illinois pays Smith $2M in ’16 & ’17 ($21M over 6 years). #Bucs now owe Lovie $4M less.”
Does any of this convince the Bucs to pay Doug Martin more than they think they should? Joe sure hopes so.
The Bucs have more than $53 million in salary cap room for 2016, and now they have some unexpected green.
Joe really can’t stand all those who chatter about how the Bucs can’t and shouldn’t overpay Martin a little. Wake up, people.

Agreed. Throw in an extra million and give 5 mil guaranteed money to sweeten the pot. Man I hope they don’t blow this. Joe. I think the owners need to get involved with Doug Martin deal now , like you said in previous article. Hearing rumors about Dallas going after him and why wouldn’t he want to go to Dallas with best oline in NFL and play for America s team.

Sorry Joe, love me some Dougie, but he isn’t worth overpaying. 6.5 mil with 15 guaranteed on a 4 yr deal. That is the max.

As well as Jameis did play I did notice when he Martin didn’t have a good day he struggled. Not unexpected out of a rookie or possibly even a vet but we need to have that run game

Team Glazer will not get off their arse and Give Dougernaut any more than what the market will bear. If some other team overpays, Doug will be jettisoned faster than a poop bag from the space station.

Agreed if the bucs wanted Doug he’d already be signed I really don’t care if he leaves he’s got maybe 2 good seasons left the bucs won’t be able to make the playoffs for a couple more years anyways unless that talented defense of ours, yeah I’m joking, suddenly turns playoff caliber, jameis is great and all but there are 12 better QBs playing these days and 3 are in our division

Bucs should take that money saved on Lovie and spend it on..Dougie!! But..they won’t. CHEAPO’S! Somebody hear says Martin is not worth what he’s asking. Our Buc history shows..we’ve always taken that stance when it came to difference making playmakers. Thus solidifying our top ranking as.. Cellar dwellers. Hope Martin get the deal he’s after and straight up..terrorizes the Bucs. Serves us right.

Maybe you should wake up Joe(s) ! Martin had two very good years out of 4 the other two years were worse than miserable (even though Martin himself claimed he was healthy much of 2014). His two good years were both “prove it” years – his rookie year (2012) and his contract year (2015). What makes Joe(s) think that once Martin is paid he won’t tank again and shy away from contact like he did in 2014 ? Whatever Joe(s) thinks – it is certainly not a slam dunk that the Bucs should pay him the big $$ ! So don’t, per usual, belittle those with a different opinion than yours, Joe(s)…. after all, its only football….

This extra money has nothing to do with paying Doug Martin.
I believe Martin will resign once he sees what his market is and realizes the Bucs were offering fair money. This is why you don’t overpay. When he wants 8 million and noone else wants to pay over 5 million, by Joe’s logic we should just pay him 11.8.
As good as Doug was last year, it’s iffy that it will continue… and you can get highly productive running backs later in the draft or even undrafted. I still want Doug back, and will be disappointed if he’s not, but it’s not the end of the world.

Mike Johnson… You’re commentary is garbage. Lovie got blamed for the things he was responsible for, and was fired for it. Simple as that. If you think it was racially motivated, I highly recommend dropping the crack pipe and heading to rehab. And now, Koetter is our new head coach. He will be held to the same standards as Lovie, perhaps higher because there is no rebuilding. The expectation is immediate improvement. Please take your windbaggery elsewhere.

no rebuilding what drugs are you on? guy that roster has huge holes in it. what was racially motivated was the unwarranted hate for lovie by the fan base. if you know nfl football you know that is a flawed roster that is two good drafts away. why do you think the talking heads said lovie got hosed

The Bucs roster is no more flawed than average, mostly on defense. Add a few guys in the draft, free agency, and better coaching and this team should compete for a playoff spot. I don’t see any reason why not. NO REBUILDING.
