Stat Geeks Beware
March 2nd, 2016Much of America has turned into one big spreadsheet.
It’s not so much that teams win, it’s if players rack up stats for fantasy teams of fans.
As Joe has stated, Joe has higher standards. Fantasy should have everything to do with Rachel Watson. Or perhaps Hooters girl Casey Luckey and nothing to do with football.
So given this premise, that it’s all about fantasy football, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter has a warning: Already known for his disdain of the spreadsheeters, Koetter cautioned not to expect the completion percentage of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to improve this year.
Why? Because Koetter wants to swing for the fences and has no use for a Mike Sullivan-like nibbling offense that gains few yards but racks up stats, so Koetter told Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune.
New Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter would obviously like Winston to improve that mark during his sophomore season, but Koetter said Winston will never complete passes at a rate that ranks among the league leaders.
“We’re not a dink-and-dunk team so we’re not going to be a 70 percent completion team,’’ Koetter said during a break last week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “We need to be in the low 60s and keep (focusing on making) our explosives plays.’’
This sort of reinforces what Koetter said in his press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine last week in Indianapolis, that he’s not exactly into dropback quarterbacks or running quarterbacks but end zone quarterbacks.
In other words, Koetter will take advantage of Jameis’ cannon arm and Mike Evans’ legs and launch the football. Joe’s already excited just typing this.
