A telling take from America’s Quarterback
America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, dished out some pretty telling perspective on how he views the Buccaneers’ locker room culture.
Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network prior to the season finale, Jameis said Gerald McCoy is one of the best teammates he’s ever had. And Jameis painted a picture of McCoy being a helpful aide, a man always eager to set the table — for Jameis to do a job that hasn’t been done at One Buc Palace in a good while.
“He’s a different guy, but he’s a great teammate,” Jameis said lovingly of McCoy. “He’s always going to be nice, like for Christmas, Gerald rented out a movie theater for [the team] to watch Star Wars. You know, it just tells the type of guy that he is. And he does anything he can to keep this team jelling, you know, that’s a start. (Jameis emphasized “start.”)
“You know, that’s why I’m here, to get everyone to be together and create a family so we can have success here.”
Joe finds it telling that Jameis walked into a team, in its second year under a seasoned head coach, with veterans like McCoy, Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins on the roster, and Jameis believes he was summoned to unite the team and must create “a family.”
Powerful stuff from a guy who wasn’t yet 22 years old.
Jameis is putting the entire organization his back, and Joe has no doubt he can handle it.

I can’t wait for this guy to reach his potential. Another 2 or 3 years and he will break every Buc’s QB record in sight…I bet he would have dived for that fumble too

I don’t think it’s really that telling. It’s a well known fact that you can have as many leaders as you can get at other positions but without a respected leader at QB rarely does a team go very far.
You can probably count the number of teams that wine a Super Bowl without a respected veteran QB on Jason Pierre Paul’s blown up hand.

The only thing I said about Jameis when he was drafted was that he would end up the all-time leading td passer in franchise history. 22 down, 59 to go. (Freeman has 80).

Using the term “Messiah” to describe Winston is not hyperbole. Between Lichts hiring practices, Koetters offensive talent and Winstons charisma Howard will be shocked if this team is not very good this coming year.

Janeis still has much work to do. Especially in the accuracy dept. But I ask all of you..What good is throwing for 600 yards per game when your Defense cannot get off the field nor stop anybody? Lookayear…Jameis can throw into the next universe. Won’t matter unless the Bucs get a Defense. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Just ask the Denver broncos!

I like his fire and I’m hopeful that he can be THAT guy. But guys, come on, one decent year does not make him the “messiah”. Besides, stats don’t mean a thing when you lose 10 games.

In Madden I let Martin walk and let Sims and Rainey carry the load until following year and drafted a stud in 2nd Rd and still went 11-5. Lost NFC Championship though.

He tripled the wins from the prior year. If he had a decent defensive coach and a star wide receiver who didn’t blow two games with his vaseline hands we would have had a winning record.
Get a defense that can hold a two TD lead…and some receivers that don’t have the dropsies and #3 will be fine!

Chris Long has been dominant when healthy. The fact he has had 2 consecutive down years due to health makes his price tag manageable. He can come in and be the #1, or if we get lucky he can be the #2 or 3 depending on who else we bring in.
I’m not down on a guy coming off injury. If he goes through the workout and impresses, them sign him up. He is a great team guy, and would certainly help the defense in the locker room and with on the field leadership. We need those type of leaders.

Google Gerald McCoy isn’t jealous of Jameis Winston.Rick Stroud wrote the
story,it spread around the web.On pewter report GMC actually called them to set the record straight. After talking to GMC they wrote a story correcting
statements made related to this issue and apologizing for not checking with
McCoy first.

I agree with your Aguayo assessment…Gramatica is undeniable proof of the importance of a good kicker…he was just as important to the great Bucs teams as any of the big names…

Bringing in Chris Long for a chance to compete would not be a bad idea. Altho he’s not the dominant pass rusher he once was it wouldn’t cost much to bring him in to add some depth and see if he has anything left in the tank. you prob could sign him at the veteran minimum. Why Not?? And I would like to see Jameis improve specifically on his deep throw accuracy. I thought that was suppose to be one of his strengths coming out of college??

Really was a no-brainer pal. This kid is not going to stop until he’s not just one of the best in the league, but THEE best in the league. Yes he’s a Buc too. He’s the one we’ve been waiting for…. that I can promise you.

If you are looking for a kicker look no further than the one from UCLA. Aguayo
does not have a strong leg for 50+ FG. Can not kick-off.
K Ka’imi Fairbairn, UCLA (5-11″ 183) – Made all 16 of his kicks this season from 40 yards and in and finished college with a streak of 41 straight makes from 35 and in. Nailed 60-yard field goal at the end of the half against Cal. Successful kickoff specialist as well with no kicks out of bounds and a touchback rate of 70 percent 4th through 6th round draft pick.
Now that we know Henry Melton and Tony McDaniel will not return, we need to draft a DT. We need a stud next to McCoy. Here is our guy.
DT Hassan Ridgeway Texas (6’4″ 307) – Ridgeway has a rare combination of power and athleticism that give him the potential to impact the game on all three downs. His talent could make him the most impactful defensive tackle to come out of this draft.
