A former Dirk Koetter player talks about him at the Pro Bowl
Feel free to call new Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter molder-in-chief.
In Hawaii last week, Joe talked to Pro Bowl Falcons fullback Patrick DiMarco about his former offensive coordinator, Koetter.
Undrafted in 2011, DiMarco finally took a regular-season snap in Kansas City with the Chiefs in 2012. They cut him after the season and he landed with Koetter in Atlanta.
DiMarco says he owes a chunk of his meteoric rise to Koetter.
“Dirk kind of molded me and helped me become a pro. That’s something that he does,” DiMarco said. “He’s going to do a great job down in Tampa. I know, I know he’s going to do a good job.”
Perhaps this is a little known strength of Koetter: developing young players.
Look at the Bucs’ offense in 2015. Rookies Ali Marpet, Donovan Smith and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, played exceptionally well. Second-year guard Kevin Pamphile broke out of the shadows, and tryout rookie receiver Adam Humphries caught 27 balls on just 41 targets. And don’t forget tight end Cameron Brate, who turned Austin Seferian-Jenkins into a third-teamer.

Let’s be fair here, ASJ turned himself in to a third teamer by not catching balls and acting like a child. Brate had nothing to do with that. We’re just fortunate that we had a guy on the roster that could play like a professional to put in there when ASJ proved himself too immature to handle the stage.

I checked the stats and out of 30 games with Koetter……Demarco didn’t carry the ball even once….and he caught only 14 passes.
Given that Lane only carried once and caught only 2 passes….it seems quite obvious that Koetter sees the FB in only a blocking role.
Joe, when you get a chance…..please ask either Koetter or Spencer about this.
Also, don’t forget to question Embree about ASJ not extending well for catches.

I like Brate. he made plays when his number was called. What else can you ask from a guy that rarely saw the field. I’d say he earned more PT.

I remember a Koetter press conference in the middle of the season. Somebody was tossing him softballs about #3 or WR’s or something… but Koetter simply replied…”Wins and losses that’s all anybody cares about”.

@TBBF Your stat actually makes Demarco’s statement even more impressive.
If Koetter can keep guys happy when they get limited touches and no glory we’re going to have a good “TEAM”.

This story is what gives a little more credence to what he did with our offense in just one year with the different undraftees he had to us and stil we had the 4th best offense just not in scoring. This gives more hope he can do the same with the rest of the team along with Mike Smith if course

Humphries and Brate BETTER be on this roster at the season start. Those guys have grit and heart. This team needs those guys to stick around

Not understanding what is ASJ’s problem. His locker is right next to #3’s. I expect him to come in a little tougher this year. He has to know the pressure is mounting now that he has 2 sub par years under his belt for a 2nd rounder. I expect him to have 800+yds and 7-9 tds.

You know no such thing because it isn’t true. I do not like players with character issues. I would say #3 is fiery wouldn’t you. But he applies his fire in the right places…unlike Inconginito…Hardy..Talib et al.
