Chucky Gives Mike Smith “Guru” Label
February 1st, 2016Add Chucky to the list of NFL brains — and general managers — who believe new Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith is an architect and a craftsman, unlike Stubbornicus Maximus, who last ran the Tampa Bay defense.
Chucky was happy to weigh in with Joe after Saturday’s Pro Bowl practice in Hawaii.
That often ignored dominant history of Smith as a Jaguars defensive coordinator (2003-2007) is one Chucky coached against and doesn’t forget.
“You know Mike Smith, he got it done big time in Jacksonville as a defensive guru,” Chucky said. “I think he’ll take a look at what pieces they have. He’ll certainly build his defense around the strengths. I think Jason Licht will continue to add the players they need to pick it up on defense.
“They gotta play better defensively. There’s no question.”
Yes, Chucky seems to luvv everyone associated with football, but not everyone gets the “guru’ label. And Chucky’s comments are especially interesting considering the way he slapped Lovie Smith on national television yesterday.

A good craftsman NEVER blames his tools.

Koetter needs to insure we have an understudy for Mike Smith on his staff this season. As soon as he turns the D, and he will with a few pieces, he’ll be on the interview circuit.

A clear sign that our guy was more of a tool than a craftsman.

Lets hope. I’m excited to see what kind of team we field.
Is it 2016 football season yet?!!!!

I couldn’t agree more Biff! I think both Licht and Koetter also agree with you. In fact any good manager of any good organization would agree with you.
I suspect that Jay Hayes was lured here on the premise you just laid out. He’s been a terrific DL coach with the Bengals but he seems stuck and so he moved here.
Don’t know about Duffner…he has enough experience as well but my money is on Hayes at the moment.

Koetter should care leass about some understudy for anybody. He and his staff have done nothing yet but smell sweet perfume and collect..advanced praises for his so called Guru staff. Win for us then we can say you are good. Until then? Its just an assembly of men…wishing and ah hoping!

SPBF and biff….yup it would very wise. If Mike Smith pans out it’s deffo his ticket back into HCing. Great posts!

Let’s play good enough that we have to worry about a new d coordinator next year. I’ll take that issue. I’m more worried about having to find a replacement in two years if we go 7-9 twice
February 1st, 2016 at 1:54 pm
Guys there’s a huge difference between getting beat by 3-7 points like Schiano and getting beat by 40 points at the end of the 3rd qrt like Lovely did against Atlanta AND Tennessee.
#TeamCialis that’s what Lovie built. Hopefully koetter can straighten these guys out. Harden the team up and I’m sure he’ll last for a very long time.

SPBF, My comment on having a capable successor was learned first hand. One huge component in earning a promotion is the having your replacement/s, at the ready, sitting close to your own office.
February 1st, 2016 at 2:56 pm
boy I hope this works out but I think some you cats are happier losing with a good ol boy than a bro. because if the defense does not get 2-4 legit players on D you going to get hammered again
February 1st, 2016 at 3:05 pm
more important than helping out his OC, mike is using the Bucs DC job to spring board himself into a HC job. It means he will be determined to coach hese guys up and prove he is worthy of being a HC. The only way he can do that is to make a top ten scoring defense. It will be a huge leap from where they are now. But im excited to see him try. He has more to prove than Koetter does, imo.

chucky broke the national analyst mold by pretty emphatically saying 6 wins was not good enough given the talent on the team. on the one hand, i agree and it was nice to hear someone say it. on the other hand, it was ironic coming from the self proclaimed president of the “Fired Football Coaches of America”
February 1st, 2016 at 3:44 pm
@biff
Yeah I had the same experience. Once a manager of mine called me in shortly after my promotion and asked me who was my replacement?
What? Was I getting a pink slip. He told me one of the most important thing any leader in any organization can do is locate his replacement…things happen and so for the good of the organization you should always have somebody in mind.

The pieces are coming into place, another strong draft, a good free agent signing or two and this could be the most formidable Bucs team in over a decade.

I think you’re a jackass that has no idea wtf you’re talking about.
Keep dropping them unwarranted race cards. Fans here bashed Schiano THREE times as hard as they do Lovie. Why does it always have to be about color?
February 1st, 2016 at 7:38 pm
Then some of you whined about my disclaimers.
Do you now see WHY I needed to put that out there whenever talking about Lovie?
I keep waiting for them to run out of cards…
February 1st, 2016 at 7:45 pm
Man, look at all the new commenters, oh wait its just all the lovie supporters that just changed there names!!!!

That’s just it they’re never going to run out of cards! Let’s go to one of your faves…
Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Ha ha ha 1887 awww did he pucker up your lil sphincter??? Actually the only one who truly whines up here is you. Well Realist does too. What disclaimers? You have no authority in this world to proclaim any disclaimers. Please, you’re a legend in your own mind. Maybe more will be up here to upset the status quo. Race card??? That’s a funny one. Go head lil buddy make up your lil phrases to make yourself look good to your lil circle. The creators of the race card get upset when they get hit with it.
February 1st, 2016 at 9:14 pm
David…I put out a disclaimer every time I mentioned Lovie in a bad light.
Disclaimer : This post has nothing to do with the color of Lovie’s skin.
I guess I’m bringing back that disclaimer. So look out for it.
February 1st, 2016 at 9:17 pm
For once I want one of you MORONS to find an example of someone being racist. I mean an actual legitimate example. Not someone typing the word incompetent or loser Lovie, but something that you can point.
You find any. So perhaps it’s time STHU about it already.
David …you mean about as much to me as the gum on the bottom of my shoe.
February 1st, 2016 at 11:55 pm
Look at lovie statistics 2 yrd and compare to schiano.
Wins and loss
Average margin of loss (who’s is defensive guru)
Lovie had more talent
Lovie was just not good , defends was getting worse and it was already worse in league.
Being top 10 in run stop means nothing , no one runs it when you throw for 300+ yards and complete 70% of passes. Smart coaches we play against throw !!!
