Chucky: “They’re Better Than 6-10”
February 1st, 2016Iconic Chucky, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl champion head coach, delivered what felt like a parting shot to Lovie Smith yesterday.
While announcing the Pro Bowl on BSPN yesterday, Chucky was talking about the Bucs and their recent changes and said, “They have four legitimate Pro Bowl football players. They’re better than 6-10.”
Simple as that.
Chucky surely wasn’t down on the Lovie firing. Considering Chucky was axed after consecutive 9-7 seasons (unthinkable at this point in Bucs history), Joe understands why Chucky would think the Bucs should have been better than their record.
Don’t think there’s first-year pressure on Dirk Koetter? Think again.
Also intriguing about Chucky’s comment was the “four legitimate Pro Bowlers” line. The Bucs had five in yesterday’s game.
Later today, Joe will share part of an exclusive Hawaii chat with Chucky about new Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

I am glad that Coach Gruden stood up and told the truth!!! But the truth and the obvious are not welcome to some around here!!! Good thing Coach Jon Gruden did not comment on what he thought of the 2014 season!!!
Coach Jon Gruden Only Superbowl winning coach, and most wins in Buc History!!!

Plus some excellent young prospects like Kwon, Smith, Marpet.
Even ASJ if he could play a full season.
As usual, Chucky is correct.

I honestly believe they had 8-8 talent and was hoping for ten wins.
The first game against the Titans at home was just flat out embarrassing. I do not know how Lovie looked at himself in the mirror.
We should have defeated the Skins…the Giants..which would have gotten us to 8-8 and heaven forbid we beat losers like the Saints and Bears at home which would have reached my 10 win mark!
Some here are worried about next year’s schedule…I am not. Yes it is tough but our team should be ready to play some competition.
The only fear I have is injuries. They are always the wild card.

If I’m picking one of those guys to NOT be in the Pro Bowl, as much as i know Jameis wasn’t the 3rd best NFC QB, I am MORE okay with him being selected than Logan Mankins. I have no good things to say about his play on the field this year.
February 1st, 2016 at 11:43 am
Yep. We were coached down instead of up.
Thankfully, it should be the opposite now.
February 1st, 2016 at 11:46 am
That’s because he was excluding JW.. Only the original 86 that made the PB are the Pro Bolwers for the 2015 season. Replacements… No.
February 1st, 2016 at 11:51 am
Boy did you see the savior tearing it up out there? He looked great! Best performance outside of Russell Wilson. No Ints all other QBs had at least one sans Wilson.
What should have been 3 TDS if not for eifert breaking his ankle therefore dropping the sweetest passes.
The messiah even lined up at center and hiked the ball prettier than EDS ever has. Golly G, eyes sure did haf alots of fun watching that there ball game.

@RO
Mankins?? What about him??
February 1st, 2016 at 11:54 am
Anonymous statements from defensive players are starting to come out, stating that they didn’t have confidence in the defensive system. No one wants to put their name on it because they like Lovie, but not confident in what he was coaching them to do. Players on this level don’t keep making the same mistakes over and over again, they simply lost faith In Lovie and his system. No results = no faith.
February 1st, 2016 at 12:00 pm
Joe, my read is the shot was aimed more at the Glazers than Lovie.
i.e., talent was there, and three coaches later you still haven’t replaced me.
February 1st, 2016 at 12:01 pm
I thought it was fun to watch the guys playing against each other I don’t care how dull it is it’s better than nothing lol so sad the seasons almost over ๐ Theirs only 2 seasons football season and waiting for football season ๐ฉ

@John McKillop
Be careful, I posted the same thing months ago about not only some players but of staff members, Yet some said I made it up and that it was just lies!!! My, my have times changed!!!!
The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change.

Way to wax poetic Realist!
February 1st, 2016 at 1:17 pm
Of course we are better than 6-10……on paper. But we gotta translate that over on to the field on Defense next year. Of course if we come up shorter than 8-8, what will you Koetterites say then? Rebuilding…adjustment period,
takes time..the list goes on and on. Why it makes my head..SPIN!
February 1st, 2016 at 2:12 pm
With incompetent Lovie Smith back in the legendary basement where he belongs this team is automatically better than 6-10. Classic addition by subtraction!
February 1st, 2016 at 2:16 pm
@Realist, I’ve been saying it as well. I played sports most of my life, when a coach has you do things a certain way and you have success and that translates into wins, you will run through a wall for that coach. If you don’t have success you stop listening and start freelancing, that is the answer to all of the constant mistakes.
February 1st, 2016 at 2:58 pm
the same guys who did not gang tackle or rush the passer?
February 1st, 2016 at 3:00 pm
what heck was he looking at? so what you had foor guys at the pro bowl you also had a bunch guys who were not starters playing too
February 1st, 2016 at 3:04 pm
lovie led 3 NFC championship D squads to three super bowls, turned around the horrible ram defense in st louis, had great defenses in chi-town and he all of the sudden he cannot coach? lovie knew he had huge holes on that D.
February 1st, 2016 at 3:21 pm
Lovie sucked balls…He will not be missed, except maybe by slackers like mCcsofty
February 1st, 2016 at 3:40 pm
DallasBuc- Lovie was not incompetent. You just aren’t very smart so you just think he was.
Thank You Lovie for building the best offense Tampa has ever seen…… Hiring knowledgeable football guys like Koetter and Licht and providing us with two of the better drafts this franchise has ever had.
February 1st, 2016 at 3:44 pm
I recognize lovie contributions to the team!! Thank you lovie for being so bad and giving the team extremely high draft picks!!!!

My son and I heard every word of Gruden’s assessment on the Bucs year..Loved it..He said what all are thinking…we are waaay better than that indeed!
Time to unleash our players the way they should have played!! THIS IS SPARTA BABY!
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!
February 1st, 2016 at 5:29 pm
wow…so much praise for dirk and we haven’t even played the superbowl yet….I don’t know why people are so sure dirk will be successful…sure I want him to only because he’s coaching my favorite team but damn…I want to see wins first…our schedule isn’t that much harder than this year…we played 3 playoff teams…next year we play 5…who knows say maybe 1 or 2 of those teams takes a step back just like the cowboys, ravens and colts did….i’ll say it again…10-6 with a spot in the playoffs from here on out is basically what licht has told dirk, the players and this city with the firing of lovie…if dirk doesn’t get into the playoffs next year licht has to be on the hot seat regardless of who he drafts….GO BUCS!!!
February 1st, 2016 at 5:35 pm
.I donโt know why people are so sure dirk will be successful
I don’t think anybody is “sure”. Many of us are optimistic because he’s been successful everywhere he’s been…a LONG record of success in various situations both college and pro as an offensive guru and an HC.
Combine that with the fact that he has asssembled a staff just like him…with records of success wherever they’ve been.
Contrast that to Jeff Tedford..Marcus Arroyo..Lovies two kids…
February 1st, 2016 at 5:37 pm
@realist
He did hire his successor and the one given the task of evaluating him and
telling him he was going to be fired.
and as for Chuckie,we will be forever grateful for the superbowl, but 57 losses in 7 years including playoffs is an average of 8 a year.Too bad he couldn’t
build a consistant winner after superbowl.
February 1st, 2016 at 5:47 pm
@Bob in Valrico
I am glad that lovie’s 4th choice in OC finally worked out and took his job!!!
February 1st, 2016 at 5:53 pm
A good coach or manager surrounds himself with good people.Koetter has done that.
there was no optimism for Lovie because he was still going to be surrounded by the same bad staff ,barring Hardy and Cullen. and there is no reason to believe that he would change an outdated scheme.
February 1st, 2016 at 5:58 pm
@ realist
and who were the other three or are you just being facetious other than Tedford.
February 1st, 2016 at 6:29 pm
Koetter will have more than two years to get this right. Then again it won’t take him two years. This team will be in the playoffs next season….bank on it!
February 1st, 2016 at 6:36 pm
C’mon he said they were better because they had 2 pro bowlers really the rest would have never never ever got in and im a die hard Bucs fan. Wow you really put that on here. I give you guys credit for having true Joebucsfan disciples
February 1st, 2016 at 6:54 pm
Zero reason light will be on the hottest. As long as he drafts well and doesn’t overpay backups like MD did then he’s the MAN!
February 1st, 2016 at 7:16 pm
Buccaneers- okay let’s think this through slowly. Lovie Smith with all the power in 2014 put together the absolute worst team in the league by a mile and probably in team history to the tune of earning the first overall pick in 2015. Then the Glazers draft a top tier franchise QB and hire a competent football coach to run the offense, providing the only success this team enjoyed in a dismal 2015. So on a five year contract Lovie Smith was dispatched back to the legendary basement couch promptly after only two miserable seasons.
Now is Lovie Smith taking afternoon naps in the basement for the foreseeable future because he is/was a really competent Buccaneers head coach?
And you are going to sit there and tell me that I am not very smart? I do love the irony!
Thanks compadre.
February 1st, 2016 at 7:51 pm
Lovie was a terrible games day coach. Remember the game where he had a minute 10 seconds in the half with all 3 time outs ? Then just ran the clock out. This is a professional team with a supposedly professional coach. We saw the same thing in Chicago. That clueless look where you know there is no hope. Only pain. For all you Lovie apologizers out there I was going to rag on him for not going to the senior bowl last year to attend a family party. But I can’t because the draft picks turned out great. Still should a gone though. As far as the race card as reason for him being let go, I would suggest that strategy will only backfire. Eventually people stop listening. The sky is falling – We’re racist – The sky is falling – we’re racist. You all have a nice day.

Please Chucky: Riding on Dungy coat tails, the comments about Winston are not forgotten.
Strap it on and step down from the booth.
