Interesting Numbers For Jameis

Comparing America’s Quarterback to QBs who won Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Let’s say, just for the helluva it, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, wins the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He is a leading candidate, so it is not a stretch.
Rick Brown of ESPN decided to see how Jameis compares to other quarterbacks who won since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger. In some cases, Jameis is superior, and in other cases, near the bottom.
Of this group, Jameis has the most passing yards and the most touchdowns thrown. He also is tied for second-most picks.
What stuck out to Joe was that neither Peyton Manning nor Andrew Luck was an Offensive Rookie of the Year. About the best quarterback in that group is Ben Roethlisberger, but his numbers (outside of interceptions) were far lower than Jameis’.

I hope Winston wins. But listening to the talking heads, it seems they will do what they gotta do to get Gurley the award. I hope thats not true, but everyone outside of Tampa thinks (wants) it to be Gurley.
Funny because in 2010, I was pushing for our own Mike Williams to win roy, but everyone outside of Tampa was pulling for Sam Bradford, the logic being that while they both did good, the qb will always deserve the edge.
Well here we are five years later and suddenly we got the qb but now we dont get the edge? Jameis did way morre to help us win than Gurley, whose team finished around 6-8 wins like they do every year, and as good as Gurleys stats are, that defense helped the Rams win their games more than anyone on offense, although Gurley did it without a qb, which as we saw the last two years, is no easy task.
But in Tampa, Jameis was everything! We didnt have a defense to help out! He made the oline better, his pressenxe gave Doug Martin space and to his credit he took every inch and turned in a remarkable season. But the point being that Jameis meant more to the Bucs than Gurley did to the Rams, but nobone uses that argument. They only use stats to justify not giving Jameis the award, which isnt right.

I was looking at this last night and it was crazy how close Jameis numbers were to that of Cam Newtons when he won his ROY. Good signs for young Jameis! Keep It up!

Joe’s favorite statistical website Pro Football Focus’ just named Jameis Winston their Rookie Of The Year! Beating out former teammate Ronald Darby, Leonard Williams, Tyler Lockett and Todd Gurley.

As the sole surviving member of the Mike Glennon Mob (with apologies to BuccFan37 and Toes on the Line), I have to ask:
How did MG8’s statistics compare with all of those Rookie of the Year winners?
After 13 games, JW3 threw for 3059 yds, with 18 TDs and 11 INTs.
After 16 games, JW3 threw for 4042 yds, with 22 TDs and 15 INTs.
After 13 games, MG8 threw for 2608 yds, with 19 TDs and 9 INTs.
After 16 games, MG8 threw for 3594 yds, with 26 TDs and 12 INTs.
After 18 games and a quarter, MG8 had 4025 yds, 29 TDs and 15 INTs.
JW3’s TD % = 4.1% INT % = 2.8%
MG8’s TD % = 4.7% INT % = 2.4%

Interesting statistical analysis on the Pro Football Reference website. QB Total Adjusted Yards/Play Data consists of Yards + Touchdowns, Interceptions, Fumbles + First Downs / Plays, where Yards = pass yards + rush yards – sack yards – yards lost on kneels. Touchdowns = pass touchdowns + rush touchdowns. First Downs = pass first downs + rush first downs. Plays = pass attempts + sacks + rush attempts – spikes – kneels. The table lists all 73 quarterbacks from this season. Jameis Winston ranked 10th among all QB’s. On the bottom it shows how he rated vs former rookie QB’s. Marcus Mariota ranked 23rd.
