Smiling over Jameis.
There are serious deliberations in NFL circles that directly are tied to the Bucs.
And fans are waiting with baited breath and mining the Internet for news. Will America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Tear?
One hardcore NFL analyst believes, yes, Jameis deserves it. And that would be helmet hair Mel Kiper, Jr. of BSPN.

You can argue that passing totals are up and we shouldn’t get too excited about another great rookie season, but consider the company Winston is in after throwing for 4,042 yards. Andrew Luck. Cam Newton. Peyton Manning. And Winston did it a year younger than Newton and Manning. The totals are nice; the rate of improvement is what is really impressive. This is what you hope to see in a No. 1 pick.
Yes, some will argue for Todd Gurley. Sorry, this is a quarterback league. A quarterback is light years more valuable than a running back.
Besides, Jameis had the Bucs in playoff contention in December, largely willing the team to that point. For a rookie, pretty impressive.

If he doesn’t win, he’ll probably prove them wrong….I really don’t think it matters that much to Jameis…
As far as Gurley…he did a nice job….but he’s a RB….had lots of help…I’m not sure Jameis got that much help…he did a lot on his own….had injuries to ASJ, Jackson & Murphy…..2 rookie Olinemen….and although Martin helped…he chewed up a great deal of potential Winston yardage.
If anything keeps Jameis from it…it will be that he plays for the Bucs.

The only break we get there is that Gurley plays for St. Louis so that’s a wash.
If Gurley played for one of the NYC teams….#3 might be in trouble.
But I saw three talking heads on the NFL Net trying to have a conversation about this topic and they prefaced it by saying…”well we all know Winston has won the award”…then quickly talked about Gurley, Cooper and Mariotta, they seemed so sure #3 has it wrapped up they didn’t even mention him after that first disclaimer.
I’ll honestly be surprised if it’s not Fameis.
Speaking of awards am I the only one here who thinks that the Heisman committee may have made a mistake?
Wow! After Stanford’s mauling of Iowa and Christian McCaffery’s unbelievable performance…that kid was amazing.
He had at least two strikes against him maybe three…He plays on the WC many people don’t see him, the Rose Bowl was my first exposure, yeah I’m an SEC, ACC, Big Ten homer. I also go to bed before many of the west coast teams play.
He plays for Stanford, not the rep of Ababama, I think Henry got the benefit of the doubt there as well.
And not to start controversy but everybody remembers the movie “White Men Can’t Jump”. Racism/Sexism all the isms are two way streets. And so I confess being an old 68 year old white dude I just assumed Henry was better than McCaffery. I know shame on me but how many of you have made that mistake. Our prejudices run all over the place including against our own race,

Im a middle age black male and that kid McCaffery is a straight beast . What crazy is the reason he wears #5 is because of his favorite player… the great #5 Reggie Bush. And honestly He reminds of the second coming regardless of skin color . He is a bad boy on the field. And yes i think he should of won the heisman but he will definitely win it next year . well maybe not considering the great Dalcin Cook #NOLENATION

I kind of worry he won’t get it because of all the bad publicity from college. The allegations are pure BS, but millions of people only know what ‘The Hunting Ground” hitpiece told them about it. I’m not sure the league is going to be OK with the controversy that would erupt giving that award to him

Thanks for that post. I’m always a bit nervous whenever race is mentioned because of all that exists in our society. Certainly the threads last year when we were debating drafting #3 were disgusting at times..embarrassed me to be white.
It really is long past time to get past the stereotypes.
I worked in Greenville SC back in the 70’s when Furman had a decent basketball team, in fact good for the SC..borderllne top20. Recruiting news hit Greenville with word the Paladins had scored a huge recruiting coup. They reportedly got a 6-4 kid who could leap through the rafters.
When Purple-White preseason night we all showed up with excitement. Everybody looked up the kids number and we were all highly disappointed. He was a skinny white kid from the Appalachian Mountains. Oh noes we thought.
Then in warmup he did a 360 dunk and from then on it was ooh and ah.
Alas he broke another stereotype…he was dumber than a bag of rocks.
It really is silly at the end of the day to allow race into these judgments.

Gurly had a hand full of good games. He deserved a few rookie of the week awards but not rookie of the year.

@life of a buc fan….be carefful and j pect your new gear if you are ordering the new ones online from the team wevsite that are on sale. I ordered six jerseys. Three have come jn so far. One is a fake and two are legit but they are identical looking. The fake has the exact same tag and looks close but the colors are slightly off and the numbers look stitched but are pressed on glued…..whatever. I am waiting for the other to show up so I can send all bad ones back at the same time. The numbers can easily be pulled off with two fingers. B.s.

For me, when I regularly talk football with people from other cities they simply forget entirely that we have a football team in Tampa. And then when Winston is brought up there is immediate invective towards him.
One only needs to be accused in this country. Innocent is no longer default

You are probably right, but still…for once I would like to see our players get deserved recognition.
I was watching Teddy Bridgewater yesterday (who I did not want us to pick anyway) and I saw a huge difference in the way he carries himself. Jameis has been proving me wrong and I love it.
Love his attitude.
Love his smartness.
I still have concerns about off season troubles, but very tiny concerns. He’ll prove them wrong this year.
Going forward, the things I want to see from him:
– Improved long range accuracy (although, Rodgers was no better yesterday)
– Hard work in off season with the team. Rally them.
– More charity work in and out of the community. Seeing him grant a wish for the Make a Wish Foundation would be cool, but really, anything along those lines.
