Bucs On “Hard Knocks” Radar

Likely due to clamoring head coaches, who think the NFL is some underground society like Skull and Bones and try to work under a shroud of secrecy worthy of a CIA conference room full of double-agents, the NFL limited the teams available to be featured in the summer reality series “Hard Knocks” on HBO.
Essentially, playoff teams from the previous two seasons, or teams with first-year coaches, are ineligible unless they volunteer.
The Bucs are neither.
Thus, Dan Hanzus of NFL.com noted the Bucs are one of eight teams eligible for Hard Knocks when training camp opens (likely) in late July.
As much as NFL Network and NFL Films loves America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and with some other colorful characters on the team such as Gerald McCoy and Ali Marpet, and a fiery assistant coach like Joe Cullen, you can bet NFL Films and HBO producers are itching for a chance to come to Tampa later this year.

This would be awesome to get an inside glimpse of the non-coaching going on from the 3 DB coaches and then see Mankins actually be the coach of the OL and those guys listening to Maknins and Koetter and Warflop just to the side…and hopefully Tom Coughlin is the HC when Hard Knocks comes around

The Eagles are expected to interview Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter for Philadelphia’s head coaching vacancy, according to a report from NFL insider Alex Marvez. This report makes sense because the Eagles showed interest in Koetter during their coaching search back in 2013. Here’s what we wrote about Koetter last week:
“The Eagles showed interest in Koetter before hiring Kelly in 2013. The 56-year-old is currently the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator. Koetter was a head coach at Boise State and Arizona State before making the jump to the NFL as an offensive coordinator in 2007. He worked with the Jaguars and Falcons before joining Tampa Bay. Koetter got ruled out of Philadelphia’s coaching search early in the process last time, so he might not be such a serious candidate. Then again, he did help the Buccaneers destroy the Eagles’ defense earlier this season”
As noted, Koetter’s candidacy seemed to fizzle pretty quickly last time. It remains to be seen how his stock has changed since then. Atlanta’s offense ranked 12th and points and eighth in yards in 2014. The Buccaneers ranked 20th in points and fifth in yards led by a rookie Jameis Winston in 2015. Koetter has largely been decent but not great.
Koetter is just one of quite a few names to pop up in Philadelphia’s head coaching search so far. For more targets, click here.

StPete- the show would be a success regardless because it is a good show. Having a lousy coach with zero passion or capability for success will be less shocking to fans like me who have sadly come to expect this base incompetence from Lovie Smith. But for the average nonBucs football fan it will likely be quite jarring if not a bit boring as Couch said.
Now, there you go again with your predictions and stipulations about what I will say and feel when incompetent Lovie Smith starts winning. First of all, I am fairly safe from encountering this amusing scenario because incompetence typically doesn’t find an abundance of competence between the basement couch seat cushions. However, should the sea part and Winston appears, dragging Mr Incompetent kicking and screaming behind him then my posts will likely be more focused on the great play of my favorite football team and less focused on the lousy incompetence of the HC. This is the sort of thing that goes without saying but for some reason I have to explain things like this to you with some regularity. Now I suppose that those “zingers” I hurl at your favorite professionally handicapped HC could easily go away if he won some effing games in this town. Wake up man.

The only thing colorful about Gerald McCoy is the patch of red dye in his hair. That guy is so bland that he makes plain vanilla ice cream seem spicy!

When the suckage is so bad and it’s obvious the owners are fine with allowing it to continue, what else is there to say. That’s why I rarely post.

I like the idea. Anything that gives Harry more Bucs I am ALL IN. However, if the Bucs games can’t make any prime time TV showings, then the chances for any major made-for-TV showings are slim to none IMO

wow, 3 of the 8 are the teams trying to move to LA. you can assume that any team making that transition will be given a pass (or more likely get their own completely different NFL Films documentary), leaving 5 or 6….given the Jags’ owner’s eagerness to go to london for the publicity, maybe they will volunteer, but they aren’t a team with star power or general following that will get HBO viewers excited…that list starts to get short pretty fast, and the bucs and bills seem like the most appealing options for entertaining television
hey, there’s still an outside shot we fire lovie, which solves 2 problems: it gets us off hard knocks and saves us a year of treading water with a coach who won’t take this team anywhere that matters

Buffalo-Tampa does make the most sense. Two young teams beginning to perhaps turn the corner.
And Dallas and the rest would have Ryan to cheer…he certainly will not be boring.
