I’m watching our secondary and Newton has multiple guys wide open. Verner is 10 yards off his guy. All his guy has to do is a simple slant and he’s wide open. This defensive scheme is garbage.

@dougie that’s because we have 3 secondary coaches….usually the job of one person but we have to make sure Lovie’s son has a job and split coaching between safeties and corners. Seems to be working well.

Because this team was completely devoid of talent before LOVIE. So bad had to spend two drafts on the offense and it has improved. Now they will focus on building the defense.
This team had 2 or 3 decent players before LOVIE. No coach on earth could have done any better.

The first down play was bad design, bad call. They should have known that when they lined up. Winston threw a crappy pass but he had no chance to be successful anyway. Second down wasnt much better.

The team was devoid of talent for the most part yes, but we also got rid of Revis and even Barron and Goldson, are playing far better with their new teams than any of our started cornerbacks or safeties.
I don’t think you can just assume no other coach could have done better with these players, I can’t agree with that.
Some coaches light a fire under their players and get them to play up to their abilities. We haven’t seen one ounce of that on the defensive side in 2 seasons.

I said at the beginning of the season that the Bucs would finish somewhere between 4-12 and 6-10….and that’s what they are a 4-12 to 6-10 team. Jameis is definitely a promising young QB, and I like our LB corp, but we need help almost everywhere else. We need a complete rebuild along the interior offensive and defensive lines. We need WR’s to compliment Evans. We need corners who can create turnovers. And most importantly, we need DE’s who can get pressure on opposing QB’s.
As for Lovie Smith, I would fire him, promote Koetter to head coach, and bring in a new defensive coordinator. In the Draft, try to move up to get Bosa or stay and take the best D-lineman available. I think if they do this….in 2016 the Bucs return to a winning team.

And he gets more time because it’s time to realize you can’t keep changing coaches every 2 years and expect to win.
The offense is much improved and with a good couple of drafts the d will be much improved as well. Teams have to be built through the draft and that takes time.

I don’t understand this position of we can’t change coaches to keep continuity for Winston. If we know (and we do) the only place Lovie will take this team is to consistent mediocrity than we need to change coaches ASAP. He has made the playoffs 23% of the time. That’s pathetic for a coach that’s been coaching for 11 years. Chip Kelly made it 33% of the time (do not want him either).
We have a young core with a young QB. Why wait until they age. Do it now!!!!

Enough already Joe. Lovie’s record speaks for itself. For two years we’ve seen cowardly, inept coaching (go back to last year’s Rams game as Exhibit 1) poor pro personnel decisions and an inexcusable lack of fundamentals on display week in/out. Penalties, missed tackles, players out of position, etc. Lovie’s tenure here has been a complete disaster. This team has crapped the bed for four straight weeks. It plays soft and mentally weak. That’s really the biggest enrichment…that on game day they’re out-coached and classed, regularly.
There are better coaching options out there than Lovie. Simple as that. We have to purge this team of Lovie’s loser mentality and support the foundation that Licht and Robinson have begun to lay rather than wasting it on a garbage retread coach that can’t inspire his team to show-up after they hit 6-6.

Look the reality is that the only way this team ever be good is if Lovie drastically improves the defense, which at a minimum would need 4 new players all playing at a very high level.
He won’t ever be aggressive.
He won’t ever be good with clock management.
He won’t ever excel is player evaluation.
If he doesn’t have a monster defense, his teams won’t be any good. The offense will win some games but not enough to compensate for a pathetic D. And we all get to find out what happens next season. It’s the sad reality.
