Evans Drops And Catches His Way To 1,046 Yards
December 18th, 2015Mike Evans was back at it again last night in St. Louis, letting balls slip through his fingers, despite getting two mitts on them.
He also was back proving he can make tough catches, get open repeatedly and rack up yardage like a star.
Evans caught nine passes for 157 yards — on 17 targets. He’s not got 1,046 yards receiving on the season. And keep in mind Evans missed opening day and didn’t catch a ball in Week 2, when he was still recovering from injury.
Frankly, Evans is driving Joe insane, and he was a major point of conversation — and obscenity-hurling — at Joe’s awesome watch party last night at Golfer’s Grail in Tampa.
Is Evans ever going to mature? Will he ever figure out how to catch the ball with the consistency of a true No 1 NFL receiver?
What’s troubling is that Lovie Smith publicly says Evans is great and there’s no fix for him needed. That’s nice, except it feels like a pile of nonsense.
Something or someone has to get through to Evans. He’s got to improve his catching. He was drafted No. 7 overall because he could catch. The rampant dropsies started with the Bucs. The Bucs need to figure out the real cause.

1046 yards in 12 games. Yea – Evans 9 official drops is definitely why this team has lost 8 out of 14 games Joe – SMH
Evans will be fine. It wasn’t that long ago you were calling our other excellent receiver V-Drops….

The real cause?…he has arrived. He has tons of money and instant fame. I would bet that deep down he doesn’t give two shts if he catches another football again. He is an absolute embarrassment most of the time. You no longer can expect him to secure catchable footballs…you just have to hope. And has there been a single incomplete pass thrown his way where he wasn’t looking around like “who touched my tits?”
He is not to be considered a real football player. Call it hindsight if you want but ODB is clearly the better receiver and football player. Evans is a joke comparatively and in general.

True story – no one of this team can catch consistently. From Dunkaneers to Butterfingerneers

I felt like Evans did mature some during this game. Not every time, but on quite a few incompletions he just turned around and trotted back to the huddle. In prior games he’d have been in histrionics waving his arms and screaming at the refs for a defensive PI. So, I actually saw a little bit of growth here. Good for him.
If you want to call out a receiver this game, call out Dye. There has got to be a street free agent better than this kid we can sign. He’s out of his league.

He didnt act like John McEnroe last night. That’s improvement!

He said nothing about ME costing us the game…..your comment is NA

I agree this kid is an enigma. He can make extremely tough catches in traffic or on the sidelines, but he seems to drop the routine passes. He has the skill, he just can’t seem to concentrate on the ball every single time. He needs to spend the off-season catching 1,000+ balls a day.

WTF! He only dropped one ball. What about him getting open and being overthrown? I’m sorry but THE MESSIAH FUKD up last night. A large part was because of the best DT in the league disrupting the play. The biggest disappointment was the garbage defense.

Get Adam Humphries more involved. Humphries can catch!
December 18th, 2015 at 8:20 am
I hate when you do this Joe. Evans had a hell of a game. He dropped one catch but made numerous catches that 98% of the reviewers in this league couldn’t make. He has dropped a couple of passes over the last 3 games. He has had one bad game and you won’t stop. You lose credibility when you write something like this after the game he had last night.

Mike Clayton Evans. Overrated loser looking for flags on every contested pass. Not a football player.
December 18th, 2015 at 8:55 am
Evans actually played great last night. He did have one drop, but those type are more understandable since the defender affected the pass.
December 18th, 2015 at 9:05 am
Lol @ DallasBuc. Please just become a Cowboy fan already. Evans had a monster game last night. You know why he complains about PI calls not being called? Because defenders are interfering. They cannot defend him straight up because he is a beast.
December 18th, 2015 at 9:10 am
What did you expect? He was in a dome. Other than the one drop he was one of just a handful of Bucs who looked any good. I agree about Dye. If you want to write about a players maturity talk about Jameis Winston, Donovan Smith, Seferian-Jenkins or Donteea Dye. Dye cost us the game last weekend nearly threw away another TD last night.
December 18th, 2015 at 10:30 am
I thought ME had a monster game against a great defense. He also defended JW without throwing a single punch.
Someone had an intervention with ME and it stuck.
Someone give Donte Dye a bus ticket out of here. He sucks on many levels.

Is that a coaching issue as much as a Evans issue? Are the wide outs getting the best coaching they can?
December 18th, 2015 at 10:50 am
Kind of funny that one of Joe’s competitors graded some of last nights players and one of the “winners” was Evans. ESPN also gave him high grades. Joe sees one drop and criticizes him for one blip on an otherwise great game. I, like you am a big fan of Winston but you seem to never point out any of his mistakes. For some reason you seem hell bent on criticizing Evans for all of his. Did he piss you off in an interview or something?
December 18th, 2015 at 11:45 am
who cares….GO BUCS!!!
December 18th, 2015 at 2:12 pm
The reason for this article is the same reason you ARGUE CONSTANTLY on the radio with Big Dog. Joe wants to whip up a frenzy and get more visits to sell more adds for this site. At least Pewter report….kind of REPORTS! A snarky, know it all is not much fun reading. This seems to be the way of all media these days, very sad. What happened to reporting a story, not editorializing EVER SINGLE ONE?

Was it just me or did anyone else think that the two deep throws that Winston missed a couple yards left of Evans were supposed to be back shoulder throws that Evans ran straight instead of fading to the sideline. This is the stuff about Evans that irks me. He has a serious lack of fundamentals
