Jameis Makes It Personal

December 16th, 2015

Jameis

Yes, it was the Bucs versus the Saints on Sunday. Tomorrow night, it will be Tampa Bay at St. Louis.

Football is a team game. But there’ is an “I” in team for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

This was very evident when after Sunday’s game, Jameis told media that he didn’t view the crushing loss as one only for his team.

“Drew Brees just outplayed me, Jameis said. “This was the game for me to have a breakout game and put some points on the board and he played better.”

Jameis later went to talk more about the QB competition, despite not being asked about it.

“This had to be one of our worst third-down performances we’ve had in a long time,” Jameis said “And that’s situational football. That’s how you win football games. You look at the way the game turned out, Drew Brees, they converted a lot on their third downs and we didn’t. That’s why I say for quarterback play, me as a quarterback lost the battle against Drew Brees, definitely, in the third-down competition.”

Joe likes the attitude. The Bucs win as a team, but Jameis is playing to beat the other quarterback, as well.

And that brings Joe to Case Keenum, the Rams starter tomorrow. Keenum is not good. He’s a backup with a 3-9 career record, a guy given a chance this month to prove he can thrive while short on talent at receiver — and short on talent himself.

Joe sure hopes Jameis takes it personally tomorrow night, too. Jameis can’t let the bright lights and big stage of Thursday Night Football go to waste on Keenum. That would be unthinkable on many levels.

Don’t know about the rest of you but my expectations for a Thurs nite road game are not real high

  2. Couch Fan Says:

Love Jamei’s attitude. His coach could learn alot from him about accountability.

  3. Wes Says:

I love that we face the Falcon’s at home and everyone’s confident we win. We face the Saint’s at home and everyone’s confident we win. But we lose and now we face a craptastic Rams on the road and suddenly expectations aren’t high. Bucs fans need to get their heads out of their butts. We’re a growing team with a lot of missing pieces and we won 6 freaking games this season. We aren’t gonna win them all. But I think we have a way better shot of winning this game than the saints game, road or not. How many games have we lost this season after losing a game?

    @Tom Edrington

    ditto

  5. DoNUTS Says:

Look for Jaemis to have a break out game….yes the odds are stacked against it happening with VJAX and the OL being banged up but its why they play the game.

This is what I still love about the NFL…there is a surprise every week. I hope its our week since no one expects us to win.

By the way, I mentioned in preseason that by week 10 we should be able to tell who won the QB draft sweepstakes… As leader of the MMARMY (some of you will recall that nick from last draft), I must admit I was wrong. Winston is the better QB. He has been way more consistent that I thought he would be and he plays with so much passion. I also like the old school ways he brings to the field like saying the right things as a rookie and being humble. 6AM arrival shows he leads by example not talk; which is a big problem in NFL lockers.

  6. buc15 Says:

Jameis will put an ass whooping on the Rams..watch and see fellas. Hopefully our D can get us off the field every once in a while.

  7. HarlemBuc Says:

Loves jamies, but knows lovie will stink
Up a weeknight game… Second time to see my bucs live… I’m going to see Star Wars instead…. Lemme know how this goes. Btw I for one don’t want the bucs over 6-10… This Ain’t no real playoff team guys!!! We need another
Draft(all defense) and some FA’s that matter… And btw look
At the teams we’ve lost to this season!! We ain’t ready. Plus gmc sux. No really he does. Did you see Atkins from the bengals? That’s what we need!!!!

  8. bee Says:

Seeing the video of him mic’d up this past Sunday vs the saints made me like him even more. What a competitor! Cheering on the defense, telling his teammates to stop talking to the other team and get in the huddle. Taking hard hits play after play and getting up. He’s the man. He’s the only one that can save Lovie’s job.

  9. HarlemBuc Says:

Btw?! Our qb is amazing our receivers other than vjax are teeeeeeeerrible

  10. Tampa Tony Says:

Hopefully Jameis talent can overcome Lovies ineptitude

  11. Pawl Says:

Maybe if Winston throws some passes to Tavon Austin we can score some TDs?

  12. BuccaneEric75 Says:

It seems like every game we expect to win, we lose, and when we expect to lose, we win. That means we get a win tomorrow, baby!!!!!

  13. Pick6 Says:

this game is going to be UGLY, 2 losing teams with depleted rosters (that weren’t exactly elite at full strength) on a short week. oh, and the ketchup vs mustard color scheme. this game will be so ugly, it will make the dallas and houston games look pretty. if we win, i certainly won’t care about ugly, but I’m not confident we can overcome the missing starters and the quick turnaround…and playing a backup QB does not feel like an advantage for the bucs in recent years

  14. Waterboy Says:

Unfortunately Jameis will face Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn and Chris Long (if he’s healthy) and Keenam probably won’t face much pressure so it’s going to be an uphill battle for Jameis tomorrow night.

  15. StAugBuc Says:

Do your homework. Quinn’s been on IR for 2 weeks.

  16. The original "Kevin" Says:

They just didnt show up on Sunday…..you could see it they were not motivated.

  17. unbelievable Says:

Agreed Kevin. They came out so flat! Winston started looking better as the game went on but it was too late and the d was garbage on 3rd down.

Tony K and Mike Wilboun both said they would take Jameis Winston today over any other qb from the last 2 years, despite Gil Brandt ranking Bortles #1 from that group.

If Lovie can put together a defense, then we can be scary good NEXT season. This year is toast, we had a glimpse of post season hope but that’s now gone.

  18. GhostofSchiano Says:

Throw it to Brate, the Rams are not so great, in the season late, the original Kevin sits in his room and masterbat……

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Pick 6, I like your take on tomorrow night’s game. Both teams are missing some key players and it could certainly end up being an ‘ugly’ game as you say. One thing I love about ugly wins though … it’s still a win. This is a good opportunity to see which Bucs have what it takes to bring back next year.

  20. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’m with the person that said they were more worried about the Saints than Rams. Not even close for me.

Divisional opponents play eachother tough usually as evidenced by the Saints almost beating the Panthers twice; even without Brees earlier in the year.

Rams basic motivation is playing for Fishers job. Btw fisher has had way more time and draft picks to build that team and they still haven’t done sh1t or really improved in years

  21. Fsuking Says:

    @ Couch Fan
That is the best comment of the year on JBF. Lovie Smith lacks two major qualities that an NFL head coach must have. The ability to evaluate talent and accountability. Has he blamed himself once for anything this year? He always put the blame on his players, without realizing that he is the worst coach in America and its his fault.

  22. Sick of Lovie Says:

I have a good feeling about tomorrow. I think Winston is lokking to dish out some punishment because he feels he let the team down Sunday. Im just really worried that the no name qb for the Rams will earn a new contract based on what he will do against our D. Bucs win 28 -17

Hey Joe – ever thought of putting the links to the other articles at the bottom too so we don’t keep having to scroll all the way to the top?

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

Sure the Bucs have problems here, there and everywhere. Here’s to Jameis and the Bucs giving an energetic display of alertness in a night game on the road. Go Bucs!

  25. FanOfBucs Says:

Bucs are going to show up BIG.

    Bucs 27
    Rams 13

    GOOOOOOO BUCS!!!!!!!!!

    Great observation.

  27. Brian James Says:

Jameis your on the right track its a team game your a young guy and you already get it sometimes it takes guys there whole carear to get it and they still dont congrats youngster

  28. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

You Lovie haters are ridiculous. I bet you’d rather have Jeff Fisher. SickofLovie doesn’t even say as bad stuff as you goats. How is it Lovie cannot evaluate talent??? Do you even read the words you write??? Did you even pay attention to the drafts? Have you seen the progress this year? You expect him to win the Superbowl in 2 years after having to rebuild the ineptitude of 4 years worth of Raheem and Schiano! How unrealistic is that? Defensive coaches are more about discipline and I guarantee the Lovie has been drilling it into them the whole season but after 13 games if they’re still doing the same stupid mistakes then it’s on the players. What do you expect him to do……….sit all the players who commit penalties? What kind of team would that be? It’s obvious that you clowns hate him because he has to do EVERY single thing right just for a little respect that you’ll readily give to some other coach. You guys really show your ignorance up here.

  29. Dave Says:

The defense is reeling. Bad DBs. Hurt DTs. Missing LBs. no DEs.
I fully expect a shootout. I see the Bucs putting up over 30.
