Godfather Blessing For Jameis Winston

Settled in at the office and working daily at 6 a.m.? There aren’t many 21-year-olds putting in that kind of commitment.
But one of them is America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
That’s the word from NFL Scouting godfather Gil Brandt, the 80-something personnel legend who still works for SiriusXM NFL Radio and NFL.com, and plays a big role at the NFL Scouting Combine each year.
Working hard is nice, but working smart and realizing results is far more important.
Brandt set out to study the performance of the QB classes from 2014 and 2015, and he came away impressed. While he ranked Jameis third overall, he noted the drive of the Bucs’ franchise QB versus his peers’.
Here are Brandt’s rankings:
1 Blake Bortles
2 Marcus Mariota
3 Jameis Winston
4 Derek Carr
5 Teddy BridgewaterBrandt said separating the next three quarterbacks over the same span — Derek Carr, Jameis Winstonand Marcus Mariota — isn’t easy, noting that Carr could easily be the No. 2 in the group, and that Mariota is difficult to judge because he needs more help at wide receiver. Winston, meanwhile, is really putting in the time.
“I don’t know if there’s a harder working guy than Winston. They say he’s at the office working every morning at 6 o’clock, so the guy has great work habits,” Brandt said.
Bortles is having a heck of a sophomore season on the stat sheet, but please, Joe wouldn’t trade Jameis for Bortles and Rachel Watson. (Well, maybe.)

That’s a list made up from looking at the stats only
Brandt is right that they’re all looking like quality QB’s (How pissed must the Texans be that they decided to go with Mallett & Hoyer — or the Jets who went with Geno), but is there a QB on that list that has meant more to his team than Jameis has to the Bucs?

Bortles is having a heck of a season. I can’t say I pay much attention to the jags other than dabbling with fantasy football. But he seems like the real deal.
Derrick Carr is also playing pretty lights out. Not bad for a Carr. Winston isn’t playing at that high level those 2 qbs are playing at, yet.
With that said, you are right joe. I would take Winston over any of those QBs. His leadership makes up for any faults that Jameis has

Jameis would also look much better on the stats sheets and to analysts without the turrible drops, the still-evolving offense, the strong run-first inclination, and numerous big plays on his part called back by penalties.

It’s that work ethic, coupled with the fact that this will be the first legitimate offseason of Jameis’ life where all he has to focus on is honing his craft, that makes the possibilities of what’s to come next year so exciting. There’s no draft or combine for him to worry about. All he has to do is work on his fundamentals, fix his mechanics, study the game, and build a better rapport with his skill players. I’m looking forward to revisiting these lists ranking the young QBs next year when we’ve seen the strides that #3 has made from year 1 to year 2

Glad to read that Bortles is doing well. He and some other guys are starting to put UCF on the NFL map. Wish the Jags would improve in (many) other areas. 2016 will be fun as a Bucs fan, even a long-suffering one. 3 games left in 2015: 8-8. Go Bucs!!

Never seen a rookie QB in my life get screwed over more by officials and his receiving corps more. David Carr had it worse overall with that line but my god the amount of 300 yard games Jameis would have had is laughable if he was Brady’s backup and Brady were to get hurt. (Obviously hypothetically speaking). Jameis will be THE best quarterback in the league in 6 years. Period. Luck unless the film against Buffalo was completely tainted by injuries is not as good as Jameis in the pocket. Yes Jameis studying film is tending to go back to his windup. It’ll be terminated this offseason as he gets to relax, knowing his teams playbook hopefully. 10-6,11-5 next year as the Bucs load up on quick young fly around the ball Kwon Alexander like players in the draft. And good god that 50+ million to spend goes a long way when you win 6,7,8 games with a young up and coming QB than it is when you went 2-14 with Josh Mccown

That’s not a blessing – that’s an insult. Jameis already is better than any QB drafted since 2012 – and in 2-3 years as he progresses (and once Manning, Brady and Breeze are retired) – Winston will be a top 3 NFL QB.
