Carter Proved He Can Play MLB

With Kwon Alexander suspended for the rest of the season after sucking down the wrong energy drink from a local convenience store (allegedly), the Bucs turned today to the guy they paid massive cash to in March to play the position Alexander won in August.
Joe’s talking about Bruce Carter, the former Cowboys outside linebacker the Bucs, once upon a time, thought was their answer at middle linebacker.
Carter made his first start of the season today against the Saints, and Joe’s gotta say the guy played pretty well. He’s athletic and fast, and he racked up six solo tackles, a couple of tackles for a loss, plus a sack. He also was a factor in the Bucs’ solid run defense.
Before the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Bucs general manager Jason Licht emphasized that Carter simply wasn’t as good as Alexander but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a good football player.
Carter proved Licht right this afternoon.
That written, Carter is doubtful to be wearing Bucs colors next season. The Bucs don’t owe him any guaranteed money, per Rotoworld.com, and Carter is due to earn $4.25 million next year if he makes the team. That’s way too much cash for a backup linebacker.
Perhaps Carter can finish strong and the Bucs can move him in the offseason for a sixth-round pick.

Carter is a veteran at the position. If anything he is an upgrade mentally over kwon. Kwon is just a freak athletically and is the future for us at that position. So it was a no brainer to stick with kwon as the starter to develop him for the future. People took it as carter sucked so kwon was the starter. But that’s just not true. Carter was good for the cowboys and he’ll prove his worth over the next 3 games too. Maybe carter can audition for the sam backer role. Lansanah hasnt done much this year. Although after kwon and lavonte get theirs, there isnt much left for danny to get.

LBs are not the problem, it’s DEs and the ENTIRE SECONDARY AND THE SORRY ASS DEFENSIVE SCHEME. Also find some WRs that don’t treat the football like a grenade.

It was Carters duty to stop Hightower on the Saints touchdown run. I watched him he went with the dline and was unblocked and Hightower waltzed right in. He lost him in the backfield and separated from his gap. Kwon would’ve got him. I think the absence of Kwon today was a big reason why our run defense was sub par.

So we’ll chunk up nearly $5 mil for a LB coming off one good year, but not for our proven running back? Re-sign him for 3 mil, we need good depth.

Carter did a good job today! However, his play was not as good as Kwon’s in many ways. He may be fast but not fluidly quick. While blitzing a little later to get to Brees a couple of times. In coverage not a great job and obviously he was a major factor Hightower ran the ball really well up the middle of the field! We missed Keon in many ways today. He was the energy we missed to close on 3rd downs.
