Doug Martin Was Not Disciplined

Yes, there has been rampant speculation that Doug Martin was benched after a key fumble late in the win against the Falcons.
Joe asked offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter about that moments ago.
Koetter smiled and said any talk of that was nonsense. Charles Sims replacing Martin after the fumble was just part of the regular rotation.
Koetter acknowledged that he recently heard of the chatter and wanted to be sure everyone knew it had no merit. He would never pull a player for a mistake, Koetter said, that’s not how the Bucs operate.
Joe can’t disagree with Koetter. Mike Evans sure is evidence of that.

Whatever the reason it certainly worked. Dougie came back on fire. I suspect however…rest or discipline it didn’t really matter. Nobody was more peoed about that fumble than #22 himself. He was a man on a mission when he returned.

Doug’s been a man on a couple missions most of this season…mission #1 prove that his breakout rookie year was no fluke, and mission #2 earn himself a solid contract next year.

Bucs got a great RB duo only thing is i think Sims hesitates to much at the line, kinda reminds me of Michael Pittman. I just wish Sims hit the hole like Martin and he’ll be more affective in the running game when Martin comes out for a breather.

@capt crunch – I don’t know that that won’t come with time and experience. Sims was out most of last year so he is still, for all intents and purposes, in his rookie year in terms of actual game experience. After watching Doug and sharing a meeting room with him, I’m sure that he’ll improve. He might not ever be a guy that hits the hole as hard as Martin, but I think he’ll get more decisive as he gets more comfortable.

i like the rotation that the bucs have with doug and sims..pound doug in the 1st&4th quarter and keep the d guessing with sims in the 2nd&3rd….doug is healthy, fresh and still running as hard as ever this late in the season….sims will come around…he has already made a huge leap in production and playing time from last year and he will only get better…GO BUCS!!!

Doug doesn’t have a fumbling problem. He does, however, fight for every single yard he can get on every single carry. As a result, fumbles are going to happen. AD fumbles quite a bit too for the same reason. That particular fumble was just a really good play by the defense while Doug was trying to get an extra yard. You are just going to have to live with it every now and then. I’m sure the coaching staff knows that as well.

Doug has turned the ball over 5 times in 4 years hardly a fumbling problem. This is with over 800 carries and 100 catches.
I just hope the Bucs resign him. After watching his interview on NFL network I’m not as optimistic as I once was this will happen. Doug didn’t say the things you normally hear like he wanted to return or he was sure they’d get a deal done. I’m not sure if they can franchise tag him next season but I know most players don’t like it so that probably wouldn’t be in the Bucs best interest in the ‘long run’. I don’t want to over pay for a Lamar Miller or aging Matt Forte.

Actually CaptainCrunch Sims is being patient for the hole to open up. Now Pittman he had no patience run full blast whether it opened or not then get get tackled by a divot of grass! So funny!

Honestly, the way this oline is coming together it may not matter if Doug resigns. It will be like the old Broncos oline.

Everything has finally come together on this offense. FINALLY. Now let’s not be stupid and reinvent the wheel. You got the second ranked rushing attack, and it clearly opens up the passing game.

The fact that Doug Martin has only turned the ball over five times in four years and three of those being this year, just is not like Martin. This time of the year you have to secure the ball. How did Martin run after the turnover? Two hands firmly on the ball. Keep two hands on the ball from here on out. “He would never pull a player for a mistake, Koetter said, that’s not how the Bucs operate”. The Bucs do to pull players for mistakes. Lovie has been pulling players who make penalties, which I agree with.
