A month ago I voted no confidence at all, and now I can vote “confident”. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve been too hasty and probably too hard on the man. The only thing I could say is that, at the time, the Bucs were playing like a bunch of morons thrown out there because there was nobody else anyway. Things have changed drastically since then, also due to Lovie’s work and perseverance.
My confidence is in Jameis. As long as Lovie give him pieces he can work with, we will be fine. Lovie could be here for a very long time. The biggest question is OC. How long will Koetter stay?
You shouldn’t be ashamed at all, it takes a big person to be open minded and change when presented with countervailing facts.
Sadly this is the human condition…resistance to change…it’s so ingrained that even little children being removed from homes of abusive parents still cry to go back to their abusers.
Kudos to you for keeping an open mind.
I’ve also morphed. I was not a Lovie fan or hater when he was hired. I feared we were going to get more Dungyball or Gruden’s pound the rock. We won the SB with the 24th ranked offense because we had the #1 defense. I’m happy to win but I like OFFENSE too. I thought we were headed for another season of 12-9 wins when we did win.
But Lovie clearly changed. He hired Koetter an OC known for 4 vertical and heaving the rock. He drafted a QB #1 and stuck his neck out despite the many nay sayers. He’s gone for it on 4th down…and made some other aggressive moves. I thought he at least deserved some more time to see what he could do.
I’m not crowning him the next Don Shula but clearly the Lovie haters here are full of…..uh….hyperbole!
I admit I am more confident than I have been previously. The way he and the coaching staff are developing the rookies and younger players brought in gives me confidence that this will happen going forward with our future draft choices.
He and Licht are almost totally rebuilding this team minus a few pieces kept. Teams are built for the long haul through the draft, and if Licht and the personnel department continue the good drafting, I think the future is very bright. I am confident we are going in the right direction.
Man, what a tough call. After the Titans game I thought there was no way Lovie could come back and win his job for next year. But…….he has steadily improved. He doesn’t go turtle as much, is more aggressive, puts in the better player, and wins the game.
Yeah, his team is very undisciplined, the penalties kill drives, the long converted 3rd downs keep the defense on the field, and a lot of his FA’s have been huge, colossal failures.
But here we are, in a position to possibly make the playoffs 3/4 through the season.
Confident, but could still easily go down. Hopefully not.
I’m still at no confidence. Yeah I’ve seen change, but we all do things a bit different if we’re about to be fired. Who’s not to say that it goes right back to his normal next season? I’ll change my mind when I see it strung together for a whole season. All the years I’ve been around, I’ve learned a leopard doesn’t change it’s spots. If it continues like this and it’s midseason, I’ll finally have confidence in Lovie. Till then, I stand where I’m at.
I’m still at little confidence, but this time I was close to going up a notch. But the fear of the defense getting blowtorched is still there. Until that feeling goes away, I’m not going up to confident. Maybe he can make that feeling away this week against the Aints.
NCBuc said it perfectly!!! If after the Washington debacle ( YOU LIKE THAT!! ) If the Glazers did not have a talk with lovie, would he have changed??? Does LVD look better in a more aggressive defense? yes and we said that last year!!! Really will need to see what lovie does next year before I vote anything other than “no confidence”!!!!
Its so hard to move the needle from a little confident to confident. He is starting to earn it though. Can we do a confidence poll for Jameis instead? I am confident that Lovie has done a great job pulling us from the deepest darkest depths of the NFL. But what about next year and the next level? If we are in a game with a good to great team, and we are getting our butts whipped, can Lovie make in the moment changes required to turn the tide? If we are up by 14 points in the 4th qtr will Lovie go old school prevent (to prevent the win) or will he go for the throat and keep attacking? These things have to be answered before getting all gooey over Lovie.
LOL…I am a lovie supporter…but i’ll admit after the first game I bashed lovie just as much as “realist” but I always said we’ve got to give him a chance to turn it around…I started feeling/voting confident/totally confident after the JAX game…I could see improvement in all areas…I think some people want to see the bucs successful but not lovie and its sad…sorry to break it to you but lovie is in tampa for the long ride…glad to see about 79% of bucs fans have confidence in “OUR” head coach…GO BUCS!!!
@realist &@nc…sources?…who said lovie was about to get fired? who reported he had a meeting with the owners?…please list the source….if the glazers had a talk with lovie after the redskins game, that caused him to suddenly change things up resulting in w’s why didn’t they do the same last year after the atl game..or Baltimore game?….I vote total BS for realist and ncbuc…why wait until next year to vote? your still going to be unsatisfied unless we go undefeated…GO BUCS!!!
Let’s see this team next year. Does Lovie pull another stunt of bringing in failure FA players. Does The league figure Jameis out and he is not a one year wonder? The defense is still bad. This is a 500 team because of our OC and Winston. I can’t say I have full confidence in after last year and what I have seen so far this year.
Lovie is a good coach plain and simple . Good leader of men . Lets get his pieces in place for him. He has got to the superbowl before and if he had a good offense he could of won
If the Glazers did not have a talk with lovie, would he have changed???
What a bunch of diarrhea! Only on a comment section could you get away with such B.S. Yeah, the Glaziers had a talk with Lovie….uh huh….who’s your source on that one.
Gee, you really have a pulse on all things Buccaneers don’t you? You should be writing for Buccaneers.com or Pewter Report! Dare I ask, is there enough room for you as a third “Joe” on JoeBucsFan.com?
@ 813….. Obviously you don’t understand my post. Lovie was on a hot seat as a HC. If you didn’t see it, then I’m sorry. Every HC has a year where things can go bad and they’re safe, unless you’re a HC for the Browns. We started off worse then last year and all of a sudden there was a change after the Skins game. So while you say name your sources……. I’d like to ask you to name yours as to how you know Lovie will be around for a long time? If Lovie was this great HC you speak of…… Then why was he fired after a 10-6 season? I clearly stated that he can change my mind, but it will not and won’t be now. I need a full season worth of change to believe he has changed his ways.
In all seriousness, you Joes have a real opportunity to help some people who are clearly in need. You know who is voting “no confidence” on these polls. You don’t need to out those people to all of us, but you have a chance to step in and get some help to some people who are clearly in a bad place in their lives.
If we’re at this point in the season and someone doesn’t feel good about the direction we’re headed and the way the team is responding and how our young talent is being developed, it’s pretty clear that they’re in a dark place. Let’s get ’em on a couch here soon, and not the one in their living room.
I find it amusing how other posters on here jump a gun without really understanding a post. I wouldn’t need a source to know that Lovie was on a hot seat. It’s the NFL! Owners fire HCs every year for seasons like last year. That’s how the NFL goes. Sad but true.
At this time I am very confident, but that includes Koetter running the offense. If for some reason we lose Koetter this off-season, my confidence would be considerably lower.
have total confidence in lovie & licht to put together a respectable competitive team…as of today, we’re top 10 in offense & defense!! game day is where my confidence isn’t 100% i think he need’s to give calls back to Frazier so he can focus on running the team on game day…
If you think that the Glazers did not storm out of RJS opening thats your business
If you think that the Glazers did not have a talk with Lovie after the Washington game that is your business
But I was informed differently and have heard nothing to contradict that information!!!
By the way I do lovie that question, “when you stopped beating your wife?” “are you referring to today or last week???”
@ St Pete…… I don’t side with Realist on all things, but I do feel he and I feel the same in a lot of areas on all things Bucs. It’s not Lovie hate really! I look at all the things Lovie has said since being here, which most have been as Joe likes to say “Bullspit”! I was never a Lovie fan and I don’t hide it. The Bears went down when he had FULL control of the roster. How many OCs did he go through? IMO he sucks at player eval. That won’t change until I see a full 16 games of growth. I posted on the the last Lovie poll the total w/l record of teams we faced this year and last. And if you didn’t count the 12-0 Panthers, it wouldn’t be close. I’ve been by the side of our team for many years, and I’m not gonna jump for joy because we won a few games. I need to see it next season. I mean this was the same guy that said he couldn’t wait to work with Revis, same guy who said MG8 was the future, same guy who said we didn’t need to wait, same guy who said the system takes time….. Wait a min? How many false statements by him was that?
I really would like to know just how long some of the whiners on here have been true Bucs fans? 6 months? 6 years? 6 days? 6 minutes? I’m going on 36 YEARS! One thing I have is patience. Lovie drove me gonzo last year with McClown. I was and still am a Glennon fan. However, as the season wore on, I began to see glimmers of hopeful change. I hated 2-14, but I’ve been through 1-15 with this team. I know people who endured 0-26. I voted ‘Very Confident’. I see an all-star offense forming. I’m beginning to feel positive towards Famous J. I want to see how L and L work on the defense in the off-season. Koetter was a brilliant hire, and he’s not leaving anytime soon. I look forward to these final 4 games and the off-season. 8-8 and Go Mighty Bucs!!
My confidence is going up for one simple reason. I think even Lovie has bought into Winstons Success! I still question Lovie’s personnel moves but I have seen even him make strides to correct mistakes and bad judgement in the past!
If Lovie can adapt to modern football and let Licht keep building this team through the draft like he has and save that big money for home grown players AND DEFINITELY KEEP KOETTER WITH WINSTON! Then I am not against keeping Lovie around and keeping the continuity that this has needed for so many years.
It looks like the team has bought in, the fans are buying in, even the coaching staff is starting to buy in. No need to break this up yet, Sometimes magic happens in the most random ways!
Jamies is the reason for the up swing. He brings life to the team. Lovie hasn’t got it…
—————–
Bingo! Lovie will get credit as long as Jameis wins, which I believe he will. Like I said before Lovie needs to bow and kiss Jameis’s cleats for saving his job. The defense hasent done anything worthy of recognition until this last game.
I voted “Confident” only because of Jameis. Lovie is no Tony Dungy, and I don’t think he could win in today’s NFL without a QB. I only have confidence in Lovie because of Dirk and Jameis. Even if Dirk goes goes, all bets are off.
I dont doubt the potential for Lovie being fired. I doubt the “meeting” that certain posters claim took place that I guess the rest of us were not aware of, apparentley neither were guys like Joe, Sander etc cause I never ready about any such meeting taking place. You like to point to Lovie going for it on 4th and 1 as the proof of said meeting, against Atlanta week 8. Thats not proof. Alot of coaches would go for it, especially these days.
And then the realist claiming Lovie list the locker room, when was it, either after the Redskins game or Giants game. But eithrr way, cmon you have “sources”? Maybe we would beleive these sources if you didnt post such delusional crap all the time. I have sources (ir i should say I HAD A source. No longer though) But you dont see me reporting “what my sources said” just to prove a point.
Enough of this garbage. This team is developing way faster than abyone expected. I cant say coaching won us any games but its hard to say it lost us games. In regards to that all we can do is speculate. No way to know those things definitivley. But we can say Lovie got out coached against the Titans. And Lovie out coached the Eagles. I vote confident.
@nc….if you really think lovie was on the hot seat after 1 season in which he lost his oc just before the season and had a rookie qb coach calling the plays then you don’t know the nfl….the reason why he will be in tampa for a long time is because he now has a franchise qb…even the glazers aren’t stupid enough to fire a hc after one season and having the 1st overall pick…pat yasinskas has mentions it in several of his writings as well as joe himself has said this multiple time on here…firing lovie after last year would’ve set this team back another 2 or 3 years…lovie was fired after a 10-6 season because he couldnt develop the offense behind rex grossman…bill belechet couldn’t win with rex grossman..clearly lovie is competent enough to realize that he has to develop the offense first and that starts with a franchise qb, which he is clearly doing… so again @nc…whos your source?…GO BUCS!!!
@813….. Rex wasn’t his QB when he got fired 1st off. And 2nd, he made the choice choice not to get any help for the offensive side of the ball after we lost our OC. 3rd, I never said he was on the hot seat after last season because he had excuses. The way our team started this year, yes it would have him on the hot seat! It was funny that when we lost to Washington, all of a sudden the team changed. It’s not rocket science man. Many coaches get fire after what Lovie put out there. Do remember that he picked the players for the D, because they know his system. Then he takes over play calling for it and minus 1 or 2 games has been garbage. The O is much better now, but I would think that maybe some power got taking away from Lovie. So I’m not necessarily negative about our team, just the HC. Seen him way to long to think he’ll change completely.

Nothing like riding a see saw. Remember those? They took those off the play grounds. They take away everything these days.
So I’ve see-sawed back to confident of course.
How confident am I that I think Jameis Winston is bigger than Lovie Smith? Very confident.
December 8th, 2015 at 5:22 pm
That I can agree with 1987
December 8th, 2015 at 6:23 pm
I was ready to join the “dump Lovie” crowd if he lost the Jax game…..he didn’t and after Wash….he has turned the corner.
I know several Bears fans and they all claim that Lovie Smith is the perfect coach for Jameis…..
Lets all start rooting for him to succeed…..
And, Realist….I never thought he was in danger of being fired….the Glazers are all-in with Lovie.
December 8th, 2015 at 6:41 pm
