A little light has been shed on the ridiculous mystery of Doug Martin getting just three handoffs in the final 19 1/2 minutes of yesterday’s loss to the Colts — after the 1,000-yard rusher exploded for 56 yards with the score tied at 6 in the second quarter.
A fan reached out to Lovie Smith on his Buccaneers Radio Network show this evening on WDAE-AM 620 and wanted answers.
Lovie didn’t try to talk his way out of what was bad judgment.
“In hindsight, we would have run Doug more,” Lovie said. “We need to keep Doug involved and we will.”
Lovie went on to say the Bucs also must feel confident they can act on “favorable matchups” in the passing game and execute those plays, too.
The irony here is that just last week, Dirk Koetter was a guest on Lovie’s radio show and said he is constantly reminding his staff that America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, is a rookie who still needs to be protected within the game plan.
Taking the ball out of the hands of your most productive weapon isn’t a good way to achieve that goal.
Hopefully, it’s a lesson learned.

I was at the game and it was ridiculous. Koetter has done a fantastic job,all season long but he really botched it yesterday.

Of course “in hindsight” you would have used Martin more. You say that because your plan didn’t work. Unfortunately, you are paid millions to have enough FORESIGHT to come up with a game plan that doesn’t rely on hindsight.

It appeared to me that the Colts major halftime adjustment was to take away the running game.
Are you suggesting that if Koetter and his eyes in the sky saw that and that the Colts were giving us the pass they should have STILL pounded the rock?
IE..Why take what the defense gives you? Do you really believe caught from behind Martin and our OL are that stout? You would run the ball no matter what?
Now given that our rookie QB played like a rookie…no slam..I believe he’s the best rookie QB I’ve seen in a long, long time…but Hasselbeck simply outplayed him. There is no shame in that. Fameis will learn but he had a bad second half aided and abetted by a rookie left tackle who was fooled by the defensive adjustments…and a team of cement heads who can’t seem to stop with the yellow fever and let’s not forget hand of stone Mike Evans.
We’re making some serious mistakes here in simply trying to low rent the Colts and Hasselbeck. Who the f are we to be so arrogant. We haven’t won 11 games over the past 3 years…we do not have their tradition or mind set or culture.

In this league hindsight will get you fired Lovie. In hindsight you should’ve kept Barth the whole year and we wouldve beat the Texans, in hindsight you should’ve kept Revis, Penn and Zuttah. Something tells me In a year or two after Lovie is fired he’ll be on talk radio somewhere saying “in hindsight we should’ve drafted Mariota”. Pathetic.

Ironic considering how a lot of posters should change their name to “Waiting for negative result to play hindsight card” because that’s all they do lol.
Haselback isnt 4-0 by mistake and has played much better than Andrew Luck this year and it isn’t close. He and the receivers made some tough catches / big plays that we simply didn’t. There were only a few bad coverage plays but if u watch film they made a lot of grabs in tight coverage. This was NOT anything like the defense in week 1.
Biggest issue with this team is lack of a 4 man pass rush. No coaching will fix that we just need a Von Miller type that can create constant dusruption and there hasn’t been one available in FA the last 2 years and we’ve been focusing on offense in the draft

BTW for those weary of the negative nellies here…it’s not just Buc fans.
Again back where I grew up…I now call St. Pete home…but I was raised right across the Ohio river from Cincinnati. We were all huge Bengal fans. My cousins are are still big Bengal fans…one of them has had season tickets since the old Riverfront stadium days.
Their post turkey conversation…Dalton is not the man. I said..oh you’re peoed because you always lose in the first round of the playoffs…they said no they just don’t think he’s that good of a QB. One of them even went so far as to believe AJ McCarron is the answer!!! AJ McCarron…bwaahaahaahaa
Of course that’s before the Red Rifle went out and torched the Rams.

Le’Veon Bell is the most complete back in the NFL and doesn’t have breakaway speed.

I think hindsight could also be called Monday Morning Quarterbacking….or in this case Monday Evening Quarterbacking….
What if we tried to run it more with Martin and that failed…..”In hindsight, we should have passed it more”…
The bottom line is that we didn’t execute the plays well enough to win…..we got completely shut out in the 2nd half and only scored 12 in the first…..
In hindsight….”We got our a$$ whipped!!!

Was up in Richmond over Thanksgiving and had to listen to the game on the Bucs website. Some very interesting comments (many about the crappy officiating and the Bucs continuing to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties).
Got the feeling in the second half though that Colts were blitzing a lot more (and screwing up our OLine in the process), but also effectively taking away the run. And oh ya, Jameis-to- Evans simply didn’t work well Sunday … Mike’s catch-to-targeted ratio really stinks this year. And for his part, didn’t sound like Jameis’ accuracy was as good as in recent games.

If you still think the bucs made a mistake drafting Winston your best course of action is to become a fan of another team. He’s on a path to be around for 15 seasons. Stop being a Sham of a fan and go all in with the titans, they are gonna get the first pick again this year. The only thing that can make you really bitter is if you hate Lovie so much then yes drafting the other guy made sense, because he would’ve gotten Lovie fired.

In hindsight, Lovie never should have fired Ron Rivera in Chicago. He hasn’t done sh*t since.
