Talks about his bad drop yesterday.
It was a frustrating game for Bucs fans yesterday. Tampa Bay played uneven in the first half yet still had a touchdown lead at halftime with the ball to start the second half.
Joe saw it unfolding perfectly: The Bucs score a touchdown and force the Colts to play uphill.
But penalties, drops, bad blocking and just dumb plays had the collapse in the second half looking more like the old Bucs than the new Bucs.
Even studly wide receiver Mike Evans admitted it after the loss to the Colts.
“Yeah we were beating ourselves,” Evans said. “We got too many flags. That’s what it was. We scored a touchdown but they called us for holding and took the points away and set up for a field goal.”
And yes, Evans discussed his bad drop in the first half that likely would have been a touchdown.
“I’m not about to make excuses,” Evans said. “I got to catch it.”

He needs to fight for the ball harder and squeeze thedamn thing when it his hands, chest, helmet, etc.
The entire o-line also did their part to kill drives too.
And there were some straight terrible calls… Gotta beat the refs and the other team, every single week.

Someone posted a link and stats of receivers in the NFL and the times targeted and % of catches. Statistically perhaps ME is not that bad. I’m not sure about that however. It’s one thing to be targeted and not come up with a catch…bad throw…great defensive play..and then there are drops of catchable balls. That’s what concerns me.
ME is dropping relatively easy balls and sadly for us his timing couldn’t be worse.
It always seem to happen at a critical time. I’m not ready to play the “C” word card…yet…but clearly ME needs major help. Not just technique…they’ve worked on that. He may need a sports psychologist…hypnotist….whatever. I like him and he has a ton of upside but right now he’s not playing like a top draft pick..it’s as simple as that!
ME and ASJ are proof that size is not that critical. Koetter was right…height provides a little edge but it’s overrated.
Odell Beckham is five inches shorter than ME. Which receiver would you like to have on your team?

The remaining schedule Falcons, Rams, Saints, Bears and Panthers. 3-2 or 4-1 is very possible. If they play each and every game like they did in Philly, they could very well run the table. But if the team that took the field against the Redskins show up….we could end up 5-11. Doubt that will happen. GO BUCS!!!!!

It’s getting easier and easier to not like this guy very much….
They could call offensive pass interference on him more times than not….guy’s got a lot to learn….

Oh and BTW…ME has made himself a marked man with the officials. We see this in all sports.
Yes the officials are supposed to be objective but reputations matter. ME now has a reputation of a whiner who argues every call with the refs. They’re over him big time. The offensive pass interference was pretty lame…but it was ME and so he’s never going to get the benefit of a doubt until he repairs his rep with the refs.

Bad attitude and doesn’t play to his potential. Getting tired of reading every Monday about his crucial drops. Not very like able as a Buc.

ME13 will be fine……yes, he’s had some drops….but he has also had some fantastic catches….he also seems to be able to get open no matter what the coverage.
As far as that particular OPI call…..if you watch the play, the defender was all over Evans first…then Evans pushed him off…..it should have either been a no call or DPI.
In general, I agree that the refs will cut him no slack for two reasons…..he complains too much….and he is truly a beast.
I think it would be very unfair to blame this game on him…..I think ill-times penalties cost us the most.

I do not blame the loss on ME…or Pamphile’s hold…or any other penalty…again #3 has had a fantastic rookie season. He’s the real deal and I’m enjoying watching him grow before our very eyes.
But yesterday he got outplayed by a 16 year vet on a hot streak. No shame in it. It is what it is. It was a team loss but the QB position is where we really got whipped. I love #3 and am thrilled to have him on our team. But before the season many posters wisely counseled to have patience…he’s a rookie after all…yesterday was just some more growing pains. #3 is very smart and dedicated. He’ll learn to do what Hasselbeck did yesterday…look at the D and realize where you have to go with the ball..quickly!

Evans has trouble catching the low throws like the TD pass he dropped. However, I think he will be a super star once he and Winston spend more time together

He’s T.O. it really is that simple.. It’s nothing more than a concentration issue that sadly won’t be fixed.. Drops the easy ones but will come down with catches he has no business catching.. I’m sure if you talk to 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboy fans and said leave the off the field stuff out of it how did you like having T.O they would all reply he was a stud or worth every penny.

He’s a funny dude that Michael Evans talking about the Bucs beat themselves. Shoulda pulled a page out of Jameis book when talking about a loss. ……………… I need to play better, I need to practice harder, I need to learn how to catch like I could in college. I need to sell my stocks in Vaseline and invest in some Stickum. If you’ve seen the movie The Replacements you know what I’m talking about.

Why do much hate?
I really don’t get it. Mike has owned it all year long. He is beating himself up over it. The team keeps talking about penalties. So why do some of you feel the need to pile on and kick them?
They are a young team. Learning and getting better.

on the drop video captured Evans looking up as the ball was going through his hands. He needs to look the ball in to his hands.he also earned the PI because he grabbed defenders helmet with both hands and threw him aside. Evans likes to use his hands to push off too much and it has backfired in the form of PI’s and
defenders grabbing his hand so he becomes a one handed receiver.on the pass
to corner of the endzone he had separation but he was still trying to push off,
Many times I have seen larry fitzgerald launch his body to a point where he could attack the ball and make the catch. I would like to see ME focus on the ball more and go after it.He loses concentration as he looks at defender to push off.

Dave Evans is not really beating himself up. In the game that he had critical drops and should have had 250 yards,he made the comment that when he has a bad day he gets 154 yards.Thats not owning it.in the last game I was bothered by his sideline antics.after missed connection he went to Winston
and was showing him where he wanted the ball. It is his job to make every effort to catch it wherever it is.Late in the game on the pass to endzone when evans pulled up on route,He walked backed all the way to sideline repeatedly
making the hand signal that apparently meant he was coming back to ball.i took it to mean you screwed up Winston. Not the kind of support you want from your teammate.

I would like to resubmit the idea that Mike has a difficult time in domes and under the lights.
The ball to the corner that he seemingly gave up on was clearly because he lost the ball in the lights and his signal to JW was to keep the ball down… WHY??? My guess is because a high arching ball gets in the lights. Also, apparent on the drop was that he was still looking for the ball when it slipped threw his hands. His body language on that play was that of disbelief… As if to say, I never saw it and it went right threw my hands…
He will never admit it and I doubt it will ever come to light… PUN intended… BUT the lights effect the way ME see’s the ball and is a HUGE factor on deep passes under the lights and in domes!!!!
Understanding and Game Planning for this should fix the issue… Which means we need another top notch WR… To bad VJ wont be around for another 10 years… Hopefully the patients with ASJ paysoff!!!!!!!

Maybe he needs to wear sunglasses if the spotlight is too bright for him! At this point he is not the greatest we ever had. He cannot even stand near shadow of Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan Mc Cardell, Joey Galloway or even Karl The Truth Williams let alone the greatest of all time James Wilder. Dude needs some glasses maybe he cant focus on the ball until its 10 feet in front of him.

Jab agree with part of what you are saying, but still think he should focus less on
hand fighting,disengage and find the ball earlier. He has also taken off without the ball
on a number of passes. that is clearly lack of focus on ball before he takes off.
He needs coaching to explore ways to use that big body to his advantage.also if Winston lowers the trajectory of pass it will hit the defenders back. ME has all the potential to be best but his apparent lack of concentration at critical times this year has prevented him from taking next step.
