Solid Red Zone Rush Defense

Kwon Alexander and the Bucs defense has done a solid job of limiting rushing touchdowns.

Kwon Alexander and the Bucs’ defense has done a solid job limiting rushing touchdowns.

It will be cool to see if the Bucs can continue their dominance of an opponent’s run game in the red zone.

In fact, the lack of rushing touchdowns against the Bucs has been so good, it surprised Joe.

While the Bucs are No. 14 in rushing defense, allowing 104 yards a game, that’s just about the middle of the pack of the NFL. But it is the defense’s ability to prevent touchdown runs that is very interesting.

The last time the Bucs allowed a touchdown on the ground was to Kirk Cousins in the Capital Collapse in Washington. That was an eight-yard run.

In fact, the Bucs haven’t allowed more than one rushing touchdown in a game since Week Two at the Saints. In 10 games, the Bucs have given up only five rushing touchdowns.

While the Bucs may not be the best rush defense in the NFL, they are stingy as can be in the red zone.

Wow Lovie must be lucky this year because as we’ve read from many JBF commenters he’s just a horrible coach!!!

    I’m still calling for 10-6.

Part of that is that teams are successful with the pass….don’t need to run.

Maybe. But the reality is they are damn good against the run. They are 3rd best in the NFL in yard per attempt at 3.7.
Yet teams try to run a lot on the so they are 14th in yards per game.
Makes no sense why teams just don’t pass more, especially earlier on.

I hear you St.Pete let some tell it no matter how many wins Lovie produces here in the immediate future he’s bound to be replaced by the OC. Still trying to wrap my mind around that logic.

That’s because 11 people break towards the hb as the ball is snapped. Sometimes, before the ball is snapped.

It is interesting that our run defense is even that good with the lack of support by our DE in the running game. The average for points given up by the defense in victories is (18.6). The average rushing yards given up in games won is (87.6). The Colts have given up (114.4) rushing yards per game, in the past four games. When is the best time for Kwon Alexander to go out? I think it would be right after the Colts game so that way when he returns he can play in a game before the playoffs start.
