Jameis Just Wants To Win
November 25th, 2015After tossing five passes last week in the seal-clubbing of the Eagles, America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, is suddenly climbing the charts toward the rookie record of touchdown passes thrown.
With six games left, Jameis has 15 and needs four more to tie Dan Marino for third place. Second place is 22, set by Charlie Conerly back in 1948 (in a 12-game schedule). Peyton Manning holds the rookie record for touchdown passes with 26.
When asked about being in the hunt for a rookie record today during his weekly press conference, Jameis scoffed at the notion. He said, in short, he’s only concerned with two numbers, wins and zero turnovers.
Jameis’ reaction was worth a thousand words. The way he was startled by the question showed it was clear he didn’t know anything about it. When he responded to the question, he winced with a bitter beer face, almost like he was repulsed by the thought.

He isn’t about personal records. If they come, they come. He just wants to win a Superbowl. And by God, he will bring one to Tampa one day. Maybe even this year.

So impressed with Winston and very pleasantly surprised with Marpet, Smith, Alexander, Humphries and Brate. Licht deserves GM of the year honors. If Lovie can keep things going he may just get Coach of the year.

“James just wants to win” – thank goodness because apparently Josh Freeman and Josh McCown just wanted to lose… Lol
Let’s face it Joe – All QBs “just want to win” – the difference is ability…
Winston’s ball placement and accuracy is amazing… Winston’s ball placement and accuracy while facing pressure is comparable to Rogers and Brady…
Ability that Josh Freeman and Josh McCown can only dream of having…

Joe, I realize you used this

Joe,
I realize you used this picture to illustrate Jameis’ reaction to the question…..but in the future could you please use pictures (when possible) befitting of “America’s QB”?

Disagree, Mac. Every QB enjoys winning, but it may not be their consuming goal. Some QBs want the notoriety. Some just don’t want to embarrass themselves on the field of play. Some want work/life balance. Some want to get to post-football life with a nice bank account and their body relatively in tact. But the great ones, they just want to win and it drives their priorities off the field, their choices on it, and their interactions with their teammates. I think we might have a great one. For instance, Freeman: “if I give it the best I’ve got and the Buccaneers say, ‘Ah, we don’t think he can play for us,’ at the end of the year and every other team in the NFL does and I end up wherever I end up doing whatever, I’ll be content because I’ll know I gave it the best I had.” I also remember a curious comment from Josh about having plenty of money and a good life and thus not sweating the contract issue. I get the gist, but there is no sign of a goal of winning or being great or anything other than going out there and enjoying the job while you’ve got it

I think you have an old record book Joe … P Manning 26, R Wilson 26, Luck 23, Conerly 22, C Newton 21, Derek Carr 21, Marino 20, RG III 20, A Dalton 20, Plunkett 19, Glennon (!) 19.
So a little more crowded at the top but Jameis should still get up there, top 5 at least.

He doesn’t know about that record or doesn’t want to beat it? Please yeah ok homie! II’m sure he wants to beat it if he can but of course winning is much more important. Six more games……………12 more tds………………he’s got this! He can do it!

Do his rushing TD’s count too?

DavidBigBucFan: I thought I was optimist. That would be sweet to avg 2 Td’s going forward. The bright spot teams going forward it is very doable with the schedule.
Gotta check your record book: I remember Wilson tying Peyton’s rookie td record.
