He has arrived!
The reason Joe pined for the Bucs to draft a quarterback in the first round for years since the meltdown of Josh Freeman was on display today. And that was “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
For the trade down-crowd or the defense-wins-championships-rabble, did you see for yourself what a good quarterback can do? For a rookie to pull off what Jameis did was nothing short of spectacular.
Jameis was 19 of 29 for 246 yards, tying a rookie record with five touchdowns thrown and zero picks. Adam Humphries dropped what would have been an NFL rookie record sixth touchdown pass, though there was holding called on the play.
Another amazing thing about Jameis? All the penalties in the opening drive of the second half, previous Bucs teams would have folded like a map. Not with Jameis! He overcame them all, leading the team down the field for a touchdown that reminded Joe of the Bucs’ first drive of the second half in the Super Bowl. It ate so much time. It was impressive.
Jameis’ game today, well, he actually gave Joe the shivers this guy was so friggin’ good. A rookie! To quote the late, great Larry Munson, “My God!”
Prior to this season, if you would have told Joe a Bucs quarterback would throw four touchdowns in the first half, much less a rookie, Joe would have thought you were downright drunk on Natty Light.
This Jameis is the real deal. Between his off-field good deeds and his leadership combined with his stellar play on the field, folks, this dude is special, and now you know why Joe had been banging the drum for the Bucs to draft him beginning a full year ago.
Wave the flags, Bucs fans! Sing loud! God bless America!

We gotta give a lot of credit to koetter also for staying in jameis ear. Jameis has a chance to be great IF..he continues to play well with poise. But come on Buc Fans, lets give it up for coach Lovie Smith. He’s been sayin all along we are a good football team. And we..all laughed thinking he was crazy. Maybe a lot of us were crazy and he is right? Good job coach in rising above the criticism. Dare we say 3 in a row? We can beat Indy in Indy.

D-Rome…it took me until the Giants game, to start to give Lovie a little love. I saw a different D in that game. Then I coupled that with the defensive win over Dallas along with the game we should have won against the Texans. Thought to myself maybe just maybe I was wrong about this guy. Right now I’m clamming up about him. What more can you say besides, thanks Lovie, this feels really good.

Lovie Smith deserves a ton of credit. He stayed calm during the avalanche of criticism, as Dungy did his first year. He yanked the vets in favor of hungry youngsters who have played great. And he built an offensive line, most surprising of all. But make no mistake, the single best thing he did was draft Jameis. That is what a true franchise QB looks like. As a diehard fan for 40 years, I’ve only seen one other. This is really cool!

Something I was wondering during the game. What happens when ASJ is healthy? The run game was huge today and that was in part due to Luke Stocker’s play. ASJ is not a blocker. I’m not suggesting you don’t play ASJ but it certainly is a question mark moving forward.

None of this would have been possible without the career day Doug Martin had. 230 plus yards has a hell of alot do with Winston throwing 5 touchdowns….To compare Winstons year to Mariota is just stupid. Winston actually has weapons in the pa sing game and a phenomenal running back, Mariota has none of the above. Name one good offensive stud on the Titans. I’m very happy to finally see a reason Winston was drafted #1 overall but to be fair in the assessment, just imagine if Winston and Mariota switched teams do you really think he would have the same success with no weapons? If you do your stupid.

Tom brady rarely has dominant weapons, and when he does have them it’s because he makes them that good. Mariota does not raise the level of the players around him. He is not a leader. This team would be far worse with mariota at qb. Why do you think the titans fired their HC? It’s not because mariota was lighting up the win column.
Winston is a leader of men. He gets the best out of anyone. Titans would be leading their division with winston at qb.

Yes agree and I always love to point out that Bill Belicheat was a LOSING coach until he LUCKED out with a compensatory draft pick in the sixth round and got Brady. It’s a fact and you can look it up. Belichek-Brady was a losing coach.
If you look at all “great” coaches there is usually a QB in their story. Don Shula was the exception…he had several great QB’s but was also able to win with backups.
So let’s all wait and see just how far #3 can carry Lovie. And that’s not to disparage Lovie…it is what it is…great coaches always have great QB’s.

Being that Jameis Winston calls the protection, changes the plays, and would not allow them to put 8 men in the box without eating them a live in yardage down the field, I would say it was not possible without Jameis Winston. Nice try though.

I’ve got to say….I’m totally impressed with our Oline…..run blocking, pass protection….if we could clean up some of the stupid penalties…it would even be better.
Donovan Smith had a great game….
Jameis was spectacular and Doug Martin just set himself up for a pretty big payday….

St Pete. He had a good team with Bledsoe and built a really good defense. Without that D Brady doesn’t win those first couple super bowls. And with Matt Cassel as his QB still went 11-5. You sound stulid

@True bucfan the players who dominated today were already great players way before Jameis arrived. VJax, Evans, Dougie, and Lavonte. And Lovie has been to a Superbowl and multiple playoff appearances so please stop with the nonsense. Jameis is finally playing well and so is the rest of the team. Remember this is a team game and you can’t blame the losses on Mariota due to his lack of cheerleading skills. Once he has real skill players at the vital positions then we can say he the lesser of the two quarterbacks. Prior to this game Mariota had the better stats and multiple 4 td games along with a few 300 plus yard games which Winston still has yet to achieve.

@loggedontosay you must Dirk Kotter to know all that information or maybe you are a professional mind reader to know that kind of information. You make it sound like he has Manning/Brady type control of the offense. Last I checked Kotter is in his ear via headset. Again he played well but my point is if Dougie didn’t have the impact he had on the game Winston wouldn’t have had the great of a game. It always starts with the running game, history says so.

@JaMarcus Leafwhich I did see Mariota miss about 6 wide open receivers on Thursday night that would have been 1st downs. You can believe want you want but the film dont lie. When Mariota is forced to throw the ball downfield into tighter windows he simply cannot do that right now and may never be able to. If you watched him on Thursday and watched Jameis today and still think there is a comparison then you are watching a different game than the rest of us.

@Hawian punch. The reality is most of you are FSU die hards and can’t see things for what they are. 941 yards in 10 games is a Huge reason the Bucs are 5-5. Fact is the qb usually gets most of the credit when a team wins or loses despite how well he plays. Per Kotter on an article on this site teams have been putting 8 in the box and forcing Winston to win the games. Yet he still has almost 1000 in 10 games. If you cant see that then please take Winstons jock strap off your face that way you can see the games. That my friend is reality.

Jamarcus: you either havent been watching Bucs games or you haven’t been watching Titans games. Jameis has been completing passes the Titans won’t even let Mariota tempt. Mularkey even said as much on Sirius last week. Malarkey said they have moved their offense towards what Oregon did because Mariota doesn’t know the Titans offense well enough yet. Winston knows the Bucs offense cover to cover, and the play calls show exactly what kind of faith Koetter has in him. Btw, learn to spell the OC’s name correctly and people might take you more seriously.
Mariota is decent, especially for a rookie, but he has not shown what Winston has shown so far.

Martin ran for 71, 31, 63 the previous 3 games and Winston did enough to win 2 out of the 3…and did enough to win a third against the giants if not for the drops…so don’t act like the kid isn’t playing good football…no one makes excuses for Mariota when he has a good game so don’t do it to Winston
so far.. Jameis Winston has 19 total TDs (15 passing, 4 rushing) this year. Marcus Mariota has 14 total TDs. Bucs 5-5. Titans 2-8.

I need to make one thing clear about all of us true bucs fans that wanted lovie fired. We wanted change, we got it, that is the only reason why we are winning. Lovie changed and adapted his way of doing. He heard our voice and made the changes needed for us to win games. GO BUCS !!!!

I, along with the whole bay area, should be ecstatic at the way our quarterback and our team has improved. Unbelievable game today for sure! But come on Joe. You sound as if you were the GM that made the decision to go with Jameis. So before you go tooting your own horn too much, maybe you should remember that if if you had it your way, the Bucs would’ve take Johnny Football the year before making the mere thought of drafting Jameis an impossibility. D us all a favor and just write about our Busch and stop trying to make yourself out to be a front office football god.

JW3 played the perfect game today. Kudos to him and the whole team. It looked like ALL of his throws were accurate today, and except for the penalties, the entire team played damn near a perfect game as well.
You are undoubtedly right that JW3 is much better than MG8, however after 10 games as a rookie, both QBs had 15 TDs, and MG8 had two fewer INTs, and two fewer “pick6’s”. Also, some would say that Jameis has a much better supporting cast, and has played a much easier schedule, but not me.

If you do not think lovie’s stubbornness, poor clock management, timidity, and love of old cb’s cost this team a few games…you have your head shoved somewhere. Yeah, we are winning. Awesome…could and should been sooner. Maybe he should let koetter do headcoaching and stick to def coordinator, then we can keep the guruin Tampa.
