“I Feel Sick To My Stomach”
November 19th, 2015The quote in the headline is not from offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter watching tape of 2014 Bucs quarterback Stewart McClown.
No, Koetter had the nerve to say this about America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
But Joe knows where Koetter is coming from. You see, Koetter was asked what he thought of Jameis going all Cam Newton in the red zone, going airborne over would-be tacklers for touchdowns.
This make Koetter ill — because he feels it is reckless and likely to get Jameis maimed. And Koetter confessed Jameis is just going to be Jameis, at times, come hell or high water.
“There’s no question he’s willing to do anything,” Koetter said of Jameis. “You can never question Jameis’ heart. From that standpoint, I tell Lovie [Smith] to talk to him about that, because he’s not listening to me. You can’t question his heart, but that’s a very dangerous play. It’s a dangerous – injury to him, number one, which would hurt our football team and second, as many times as you see guys do that, they fumble the ball a lot.
“I would rather see him go low and try to get it across [the goal line] that way. Again, you can’t coach every single thing out of these guys. Their instincts take over and they’re playing football. Like I say every week, Jameis is a football player. There’s no doubt about that.”
Koetter also noted that there are few run plays he calls where Jameis is the ballcarrier. A lot of times near the goal line, it is just Jameis scrambling.
Joe totally agrees with Koetter. It’s one thing to want to put the team on your back, and quite another to want something so bad you do something reckless and hurt yourself, and your team, which clearly Jameis doesn’t want to do.

That’s pretty funny. Jameis is a smart young man. Sooner or later he will understand going in low is safer and generally more productive. Hopefully he learns it before he gets hurt.

Another 6 inches and that would have been a hell of a play. Jameis is still young and strong enough to pull that stuff off.

I agree. We were lucky Dallass got that penalty called or it would have been game over and another loss.

In a pinch Jameis is no holds barred gonna make something happen strong.

#3 can throw pretty well on the run…I still do not understand why we are not running protected bootlegs inside the ten.
#3 rolls right and has way more time to survey the end zone…more time for receivers to get free and great options. Receivers covered #3 runs it…either OB to protect himself or getting into the end zone if it’ open. And the third option is not the end of the world either. If the defense has the play covered and there’s nobody open and nowhere to run..#3 just flings over the end zone.

Go low and you have LBs diving at your head… At least if you stay up you can leap DBs diving at your knees…

I don’t see the big deal…the game was on the line and we had to get a td…I would like for him to slide if he’s going for a first down in the first quarter but in the 4th quarter with less than a minute to play inside the redzone..you have to take a chance…yes he(we) were lucky but we got the “w”….GO BUCS!!!

The fumble wasnt even caused by a hit. The ball squirted loose all its own as soon as Winston dove. It was late in the game and at that point you do what you have to to get the ball in the endzone.
