Bucs center talks Jameis in game-winning drive.

Center Joe Hawley talked to Joe right after the passionate postgame sermon America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, gave his teammates — after his touchdown run gave the Bucs their fourth win of the season Sunday.

Hawley sort of set the scene for what it was like in the huddle on the final drive, and Hawley didn’t mince any words: Jameis was the straw that stirred the drink, both in the huddle and on the field.

On Jameis’ touchdown run, Hawley said, “No [Jameis did not freelance], that was a play call. I think [offensive coordinator] Dirk [Koetter] saw [Dallas was] going to play run heavy and he called a naked [boot] on them and it worked out really well.”

On Jameis and the final drive, Hawley added:

“He is a competitor. He is getting more confidence in himself each week. We all made some mistakes, he rallied us and he really fired us up on the last drive. He told us he was going to get us in the end zone. I am very proud of the way he played at the end. He said, ‘I promise you guys I will get us in the end zone.’

“I think [Jameis] is realizing our team will go as far as he will take us. He knows this is his team and he is becoming more of a leader. He is definitely gaining that confidence. He is speaking up more and rallying us. He is such a competitor and has so much fire that when he gets into it; there is no choice but to follow him.”

Interesting. A guy in his sixth year in the NFL says a rookie has so much enthusiasm that you can’t help yourself to follow him. Cool stuff.

I’d hate to lose Jameis….but I’d give him up to have him lead us in the fight against terror…..perhaps he can do some work on that in the off-season!!!

  2. BucFan20 Says:

So how much longer til you rename this site?

  3. Patrick in VA Says:

It’s a branding thing. They won’t rename the site. I’m checking every time I come though to see when that #28 changes to a #3 on the site’s mascot.

  4. BucFan20 Says:

I have been watching for that too!

  5. Bucco Brice Says:

  6. Tnew Says:

Not gonna address the jealousy or whatever people are affected by to continue with so much contempt toward Winston.

I for one can’t wait until he has his own player show. That will be can’t miss radio. Any whispers yet Joe?

  7. Ray Rice Says:

Now only if they could find a leader on defense. Too bad Big Clint is injured. Although, I’ve seen Gholston play nasty the last two games. He’s not getting sacks but he’s been changing the line of scrimmage and imposing his will. Especially in the run game.

“He knows this is his team and he is becoming more of a leader.”

    That is all

  9. Joe Cool Says:

Gives me chills every time I hear other teammates talking about him. His personality is infectious and players love to play for him. Drafting JW was the best ting to EVER happen to this franchise.

Go to AmericasQuarterback.com… It takes you to the Jameis Watch Section… Joe knows what people wanna read lol… Jameis Fever is infectious… Can’t wait until his ability matches he’s desire…

God I wish he would have held onto the ball the first time he crossed the goal line. That play would have gone down in Tampa Bay Buccaneer lore forever if he just wouldn’t have fumbled

    :sigh:

Oh well, no harm no foul I suppose

Another prolific warrior and leader of men started his conquest of the world at age 21. (Alexander the Great.)

    Jameis the Great?

  13. Mo_Downs Says:

Half of the season is on the books yet L&L haven’t solved the WR/TE problem due to injuries. I can’t respect that, whatever the reason. The shelves are bare, the bank is full and we’re trying to win with enthusiasm and low skills?

    Yeah, good luck with that.

  14. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Mo_Downs, who exactly are they going to get? Is Hakeem Nicks going to solve all of our problems?

This team lost it’s top 4 passing game weapons to injury…that’s hard to cover up

Yep. That’s how the Glazers roll.

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

Ironic how the 3-6 Jags, the 2-8 Browns and the 2-7 Titans have by far the most cap space. We sit at 8th most cap space out of 32 teams.
Cap space doesn’t tell the whole story though. You also have to consider front office payroll, coaching payroll and facilities. Good teams don’t play perception games or skimp on any of the above.

Wow once again the Cry Me A River Gang pops up to break up the mood! Move along nithing to hear here!,

  18. celly Says:

you do understand that front office payroll and coaching payroll doesn’t come out of the salary cap, right?

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Joe

Patrick in VA is correct. How about a change of your logo…just make that #28 into #3. I suspect that if you took up a collection there are enough of us to chip in to play for the change.

  20. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lol wut?
    No ****, Sherlock.
You do understand that all of the above contributes to the owners bottom line, right?

Good job, maybe the Glazers will give you an atta-boy.

  21. Bucfan951 Says:

Yeah because the billion dollar owners are worried about the 5 million dollar contract of their coach. That’s like you worrying about $20. The owners care about the bottom line because they are businessmen but at the end of the day, they do actually want a winning team and will do what ever they can to achieve that.

  22. Howard Cosell Says:

So I guess that explains why the Bucs have sucked *** for almost 10 years then, right?

Lol, so you wait until the next day to come and try and get the last word?
    Sneaky.

I’ll be here waiting for you.
