Bucs rookie LT Donovan Smith
Where was Cowboys demon seed Greg Hardy yesterday? Lots of people thought he would mop the Tampa turf with rookie left tackle Donovan Smith.
Smith, the second-rounder out of Penn State, was whistled for three false starts against the Cowboys. Yeah, that’s probably at least the equivalent of one sack allowed on a data nerd’s computer somewhere, but in reality, Smith stood tall against Hardy the Pro Bowler and woman abuser.
That’s a strong showing for Smith. False starts can be cleaned up, even an unthinkable number like that in front of a friendly home crowd.
Per BSPN stats, Hardy finished with no hits on Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback. And he registered just one tackle and no assists, his lowest output of 2015.

Maybe if Winston wore a dress, Hardy would have had a few more hits on him.

Our Oline played well again…..the run blocking wasn’t as good….but pass protection was solid. D Smith is getting a baptism of fire….he will be solid for us for years to come.

For as porous as the Oline was supposed to be this year, they have gone up against some of the biggest names that the NFL has to offer (Watt, Hardy, everyone on the Panthers, JPP, etc.) and none have been terribly impressive. They’re not the Redskins’ Hogs of yesteryear, yet, but it’s encouraging.

From where I was standing, the O-Line and offense in general sucked. Got most of our yardage from penalties. And Smith was responsible for ending at least 2 of our drives. Glad we go the W though.

One of the great successes of the Smith regime has been the revamping of the oline.
With two rookies contributing.
This after all the criticism on here that they had destroyed it.

At least one if those penalties should have been called on the d-line for simulating a start of the play as they shifted on purpose. That was supposed to be a point of emphasis the last couple years.

No question this was a pretty impressive draft. Kwon is playing lights out, both rookie Olinemen holding their own, then we have Jameis, rookie leader of the year!

Donovan Smith just has to keep his head in the game. Donovan you graduated from Penn State. I just do not get the false starts? You don’t move until you hear the right count. It is all about focus and concentration. He held his own against bad boy Greg Hardy. This week Smith is going to have his hands full with Fletcher Cox. He has one of the best motors in the game. Never lets up or takes a play off.

Everywhere i read says our OL rookies are doing well, but everytime i watch DSmith i am just NOT seeing it. He is easily beaten with speed and all he tries to do is push the end past the qb. He has cement feet…terrible.
